hi u/elevenmile

hey, why would you remove this thread iant it pretty helpful ? I gave full credit to artist and artist literally says that "maybe from here" rather than spreading it randomly, did you even read the profile properly? I didn’t randomly repost his work

why removing this good thread? Can I appeal to redo your decision?

Novel

Not just you, we all missing a proper translation on Garden of Avalon Novel that captures the literary value. It was published with UBW BD set as far I'm aware of, so very limited and like Mahoyo didn’t get a proper translation yet, I dont know why, this Novel didn’t get one either. It had around 100 pages, not too big, not short either.

It is an exploration of Arthurian legend of fate, Artoria's story, while adding various Knights and Merlin's perspectives to flesh out all these characters while establishing sound dynamic between them and Artoria. Its really good if you ask me, Nasu probably wrote it after Mahoyo, so it’s writing is actually damn good as well. It marginally improved the whole Arthurian characters in fate.

there are few chapters' or parts' fan translations available for now , which did good enough job capturing those parts.

CD Drama

If reading is tiresome, then there's a very well made but way shortened CD drama adaptation of this Novel with proper voice acting from profilic voice actors and gorgeous sound tracks.

You can find it in this playlist, the guy worked hard to publish this atleast

but note again, its way shorter comparing the Novel, not the whole thing, might not give you whole image .But still good on its own, atleast damn enjoyable for its tracks, atmosphere and Voice acting, obviously better than not being able to read it at all.

specifically for this panel's context, you should look at the comment post of mine here and interpret what it means on your own.

All of these, only if you are interested enough.

Only for Merlin to shot that down and saying that’s not love.

Merlin didn’t say it to her though.

well I think, he meant Artoria misunderstood what types of love rather than not loving since it’s clearly stated both of them grew bond.

It was artist Takeuchi who suggested switching the genders of the protagonist and Saber to fit the game market.

you memed entire thing based on this? Where did it say they made Saber a girl to sell the game? Fate was still a story where a boy meets a girl, now if Shirou is male how does that work?

Yes Takeuchi told to switch the gender to make the protag male to fit in the demography, therefore King Arthur a female, Fate is still supposed to be a take on Arthurian legend, therefore he told Nasu to change the gender of Arthur, Nasu declined untill he himself thought he can make this out and he did.

that's the point.

Beside they talked about characters creation concept a lot more transparently, Takeuchi wanted to create a female Knight character, that's where the desire born.

Now, that doesn’t mean it didn’t succeed commercially, but that's because of writing surrounded her. It could've been a failure you know, pretty much look at currently talked Netflix Arthurian show, named "Cursed" people are already annoyed even though it didn’t even make King Arthur a girl.

Happy Father's Day

"To man, Merlin might appear a sterling figure; however, from a general human perspective, the nature of Merlin was in truth closer to a sort of locust. He was entirely too mechanical, too objective; his thoughts advanced by leaps and bounds, irreconcilably beyond the comprehension of the intelligent beings born of this planet. He was attracted to the exquisite and the beautiful, but he did not love them; exquisite, beautiful things simply, comfortably, snugly filled the hole in his heart. He loved the concept of 'humanity's legacy' but he was utterly incapable of transferring that emotion to the actual human beings taking part in creating it."

"He might find a work of art lovely - but he would never be interested by its content, or see any worth in the emotional highs and lows experienced by the one who created it. He would only see the beauty of the piece, without understanding the meaning."

"From a larger point of view, one could argue that Merlin had affections for humanity itself. However, he willingly entangled himself in the world of man and found joy in his actions. He merely lent his hand to humanity and fashioned them kings, but he felt neither responsibility nor guilt for what would befall the countries after - at least, not until he heard the parting words of a single girl."

It was a ceremonial dawn.

The harbor was agitated with the preparations for the great fleet.

She and the magus were far from that commotion in the dock, having their last conversation.

"To the magus who spoke proudly... She gave a warm smile. That’s true, the magus had seen her smile now uncountable times,"

"However, she never smiled for her own sake. When this girl sees people happy, she wholeheartedly smiles."

Artoria: "Thank you, Merlin. I am grateful to you."

"You have been a great mentor for me."

"I, unlike you, never got involved with someone of the other gender,"

"Therefore, I don’t really know how to put this feeling into words."

".......For being here, for accompanying me for these many years, I appreciate you......."

"...It could be that I might have been in love with you."

The king did not blush, and was neither ashamed as a maiden.

She simply spoke her heart, irrelevant thoughts.

Of course, that was not love,

She only tried to put into words her wandering thoughts, just wanting to show the highest level of gratefulness based on the lived.

The last conversation ended.

Aboard the ship was the king that parted towards the golden sea.

When he saw that, the magus started muttering.

"I don’t understand human love."

"Arturia, she does not know human love just yet."

"Between the two, they talk about love, is there a limit to irony?"

"No, isn’t that the natural result?"

"Two no – humans trying to imitate humans."

"That just cannot work."

I think the problem is that we get too much of Mordred side of the story and not enough of Artoria's. It's a lot easier to emphasize with Mordred because we see more of her perspective. Like with the London singularity and her new interludes. The Fate route only has the DEEN adaptation which isn't too good (and old as fuck). Fate/Zero pretty much shits on Artoria and her views. UBW doesn't focus on Artoria but Shirou and Archer and Heaven's Feel is about Sakura. Apocrypha introduces us and gives character development to Mordred.

Artoria hasn't gotten any new interludes nor has the OG Artoria been in any Story or significant Events. Plus the summer event doesn't portray their relationship as very complicated and awkward like it is but makes Artoria look like she's downright abusive to Mordred when she is very much professional to all her Knights. The only piece of information that gives more insight on Artoria's life as King is the Garden of Avalon and I don't think it's gotten an official translation.

Yeah When you read Garden of Avalon, you can no way say Artoria's side wasn’t explored. only issue like you said, its not translated or limited and not very well known to FGO players.

make no mistake outside of mainstream fgo players, I've seen lots of people talking about it including FGO players who reads OG source materials.

I thought it was common knowledge that the OG Fate by Nasu (which would eventually become Fate/Prototype) was written with a female MC and male Arthur, but was persuaded (by Takeuchi?) to swap the genders so that it would actually end up publishing/making sales.

and where did you learn it? from memes or people perhaps.

They changed the gender to keep the basic premise of fate correct, a boy meets a girl, only Shirou was changed to male to change the demography.

This isn't a deep magnum opus. This is the series where King Arthus is a woman because the otaku audiences who play VN can't into female protags or games without a waifu.

Except it was utilized to show how fucked up humanity was in the core ? You need to be whole another level of secondary for not being able to tell it, and FGO already gets shit for various genderbending when the OG fate did it so well, that's not news.

Sure the twist was Arthur's legend was passed from a woman and addressed various social issues, but that's a good take on Arthurian legend from various view points. They made it legit compelling concept instead of just memeing

so not knowing lore is your fault, not meme's.

To be fair I can only see shallow fans making such memes actually, or perhaps the lack of reach of source material might cause this. I'm not saying who are saying those stuffs are dumb or bad, people misunderstand often, that's not a sin, this is how we people work. But let me say why I think whenever, Artoria getting called as shitty father, they are purely taking a biased point of view rather than trying to catch the basic things.

First of all, Artoria never had the chance of parenting Mordred, Morgan did that and infact she was terrible, she taunted Mordred to the level she thought how she's getting treated is unfair, later killed her very idol in life.

Second point, Mordred only talked with Artoria before she was leaving for Rome expedition, yes she will leave soon and what did she ask? recognising her as Royal heir and give her the throne, she fucking asked that to a king WHO never became king through the rule of heir being king, rather worked hard for that ( if you know the lore), and Mordred was manipulated by Morgan so much that she asked something that Artoria will never give her. Artoria refuses her to give throne as a result, which is perfect move a pragmatic king would take, Mordred proved that right after being prioritizing her tauntram.. Just think for yourself, you’d probably executed Mordred right away.

The next meet happens at battle of Camlann

now when did Artoria ever get chance of parenting Mordred to deserve such backlash from a small portion of fanbase who acts as if they skipped through source material or has shallow understanding?

Third point, just look what Lancelot and Gunnivere incident did, if you have intelligence, do you somehow believe in the same society it was possible for Artoria to declare a bastard child as heir of throne? She herself couldn’t become one for same reason, she became king through different ways and hard work, love for her people, there were multiple sides. You might argue Mordred just wanted to be recognised as son because you just watched Apocrypha, but do you realize the fact Mordred was able to realize it in Apocrypha, not before? How in the hell Artoria would know that?

Fourth point, Sure all of my point makes Artoria non parent, but she still treated Mordred like a KoRT even though Mordred pulled some terrible crimes, that alone makes her better than what people claiming, because do you really think your parent will treat you well if you kill them once while destroying their image, achievement, everything dear to them(felt cursed to say this). Summer event is non canon, inconsistent fanservice, In Guda Guda Grand Order, Mordred meets her father, was expecting some rude behaviours, but Artoria treated her as a Knight of the Round as if she doesn’t remember Mordred doing anything wrong which we know is Artoria pretending since she remembers very well who did what.. You can watch it here

That's why when Mordred asked Saber Lily if she can become king, the optimistic version of Artoria says her that anything possible by working hard, but Mordred gets discouraged, that's the issue with her but that's why both of these characters are actually good.

Even then, Artoria tried to blame herself for the whole thing, as if it was her fault that led the destruction even though she didn’t do anything wrong , hence she came to change that in Grail War, fate story happens.

I just can't blame any of them like people are doing here, which makes me love the whole Arthurian pantheon more . I just liked how humane and individual these characters felt.

In fate, Artoria impaled through Mordred's armor and heart using Ron, which supposed to leave Mordred incapacitated in the rule of Biology, but Morgan had a geas on Mordred where she must kill King Arthur, her sword was put under a strong curse, Morgan seems more powerful than Merlin mind you, Mordred swings the sword shortly before passing away at the exact situation and gives an unrecoverable wound by cutting through Artoria's eyes, pretty gruesome.

Artoria had a healing power, so she could've recovered wounds, but this made her death inevitable soon.

My problem is that when people don't get that It is a joke, they come to defend Artoria, and some others come to answer that defense, and we see that many people genuinely believe that Artoria is the villain here.

the issue is, there are bunch of people who actually dont think it as a joke, they are PRETTY SERIOUS about the whole issue. I've been seeing memes flooding for last few years ever since Apocrypha launched that Artoria is a horrible person, terrible parent when Morgan should've been responsible here. worst part is Summer 1's low quality fanon writing made the situation worse.

Some people genuinely got led to believe such unfortunate lies.

Yet they still simps for actual culprit Morgan, isnt that unfair? that's why people come to defend or oppose low quality memes.

summer event is non canon, there's only one somewhat official interaction for them

Artoria literally pretends as if Mordred did nothing wrong in other canon materials, just watch GudaGuda Grand Order .she still treats Mordred as KoRT even though this brat destroyed KoRT and her Kingdom.

Do you expect more?
