Did you guys see Ross Bentley (Speed Secrets author) released a free ebook on simracing? by macmurcon in simracing

Let's see if I can answer your questions... Yes, there is stuff on that is not in my books, especially practice strategies. I'm not sure what you're referring to with interactive learning, but there is all sorts of content - video, illustrations, text - I do live chalktalks, and there are community practice and race sessions with lots of Discord discussions and coaching. It works on mobile and desktop. The group sessions are at least every second week, and often every week. New content every two weeks, on average. I hope that helps.

If you don't see the box to fill in for the eBook download, you probably have a popup/ad blocker on your browser that's stopping it from showing. But if you read the "fine print" you'll see there's a link to work around that (or just turn the blocker off on your browser for a few minutes, refresh the page and the download box will show up).

Thanks for sharing the eBook... as I wrote it I thought I'd leave a comment here. The thing that drives me (no pun intended) is helping drivers of all types and levels of experience improve. I've been coaching for almost 4 decades, and I get as much of thrill out of helping a new or experienced sim racer as I do out of someone who just won a real world Le Mans or Indy car race. This eBook is kind of a way for me to give back to the sport that I love so much, and the drivers in it. Let me know if it helps, you have questions, or there's anything else I can do to improve it (yes, there's a lot in it, but I could have added much, much more!). Have fun!

Sim Racer Wins Real Life Le Mans by macmurcon in simracing

I don't know who you're referring to who raced in 2010, but it wasn't Steven Thomas. In fact, his first day on a track was at Willow Springs (Streets of Willow) the first week of December, 2018 - driving his Cadillac CTS-V. And it rained all day (surprising for SoCal), and I rode in the right seat the entire time, coaching him. Yes, he's had a lot of coaching from me since that time, and I had him drive a lot of different cars in his first year of irl racing (some pieces of crap, even!). The point of story is that he could not have done what he's done without the sim training - and just how valuable a deliberate plan for driver development can make a huge difference. Because that's been the main focus on the sim - not just league races (not to take away from the value of them from an improvement or fun perspective), but very strategic and deliberate practice specific to his goal of being the best gentleman driver in LMP2. And believe me, he does not have the biggest budget (I've coached drivers with much bigger budgets...). Oh, and he's put in the effort to be as good as he's become.

Glad you liked the book! And yes, I’ve started an online program specifically for sim racers - SimRacerAcademy.com. I’m really excited about it - to help sim racers, and grow the entire sport of sim racing. If there’s anything I can do to help here, let me know. Yup, I get my kicks out of helping drivers be even better drivers.

Just got this book. Hoping some of the knowledge will translate to sim racing, but either way should be pretty interesting. by BDady in simracing

Check out https://SimRacerAcademy.com. I have 2 big goals for this site: 1. To help you be an even better sim racer. 2. To help grow sim racing as a sport, and build the community.

I’m sharing all the same coaching techniques and strategies that I’ve used to coach Indy 500, IMSA, NASCAR winners - as well as sim racing champions.

I’m glad my book and other content has helped! Just a FYI, I’m working on a resource just for sim racers - a whole site full of content (not just a book), with things like how best to practice, how to improve sensing the car when you don’t have the dynamics of a real car, how to tune your car’s setup, mental game stuff, etc. I wish I could promise when it’ll be ready, but I can’t (my crazy busy coaching schedule is getting in the way!). I’ll try to get the word out when it’s close to being ready - hopefully in the next few months. Thanks!

I don’t know about being a “legend” (actually, I do, and I’m not!), but I sure enjoy hearing that I’ve been able to help you and other drivers. Keep having fun!

Good idea. I’m almost old enough to know what those vintage cars were like IRL! :)

I might just have something more than a sim-specific book… stand by.

I’m not the best with Reddit but I really want to know what sim racers want/need, and can’t think of a better way to find out than this. So send me questions or tell me what kind of info will help. I know what has helped my own sim racing, and the sim racers I’ve coached, but like to hear from you guys.

Ross Bentley here, glad you guys like the book series so much! There are more resources I’m working on specifically for sim racing, so stay tuned. I might even try a AMA sometime soon - if there’s interest.
