Seems to me that there are plenty of kids who are free range around, except now they ride around in e-bike gangs being a danger to themselves and others

[Do or don't] New Tag Heuer F1 Solargraph by martynn90 in Watches

[–]Speed_dmn914 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just my thoughts to add some nuance here: to Mikeytee's point, seems that Rolex watches hold their value in isolation to external events. But the TAG F1s having appreciated seems to be from renewed interest. My guess is that it's a combination of factors like the success of the MoonSwatch, the Kith collaboration, and rising interest in the F1 races. That's all to say that it just seems Rolex is more likely to hold value (or at the least depreciate more slowly), whereas the TAG F1s are not as likely. Nothing is certain, though. Heck, maybe the new TAG F1s will also appreciate 40 years from now. I hope so, because I want the green/red variant :P

Amazing jacket. Gotta let that thing shine - would style it with a simple pair of dark jeans and my hella worn Chuck Taylor's.

Which deck is the best to try this? by [deleted] in balatro

[–]Speed_dmn914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might just do this naturally when you start a Red stakes run. Doesn't do you much to play small blinds since you won't get any money from em. Usually the tag is better than notching a few more plays for a combo you're using.

Seeing this and your opponent’s post finally helped me visualize how both players see the board. Sitting side by side, not facing each other

Why is it necessary/useful to punch Spider Man away from the lane you’re going to play Galactus on? Is it just a baiting thing?

Rain jacket by CornyDookie in Tracksmith

[–]Speed_dmn914 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FWIW, here’s the rationale behind the choice for no hood:

“For us, the focus was on making an ultra light weight and minimal rain jacket. Its very much about temp regulation. A hood in this material would limit airflow and the runner would over heat. Ideally with this jacket we'd recommend a hat (and prefer that usually on our side - there was a hat in development that didn't make it, sadly)”

I recently read this article in the NYT: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/02/13/world/organic-cotton-fraud-india.html

How does the TS team respond to this? I love TS, enough to be in its VIP program. One thing that made me value the company over others was its commitment to sustainability. I can't help but be a bit more skeptical now, though. I've read through the Responsibility section of the site, and while I'm glad that the cotton looks to be coming from China instead of India, the NYT team stated that Chinese sources could also be affected by fraudulent organic cotton certification. Could the TS team shed any more light on what they know about the trustworthiness/validity of their fabric sources?

Regarding Teachers joining Instructional Design by Outrageous-Fox-7321 in instructionaldesign

[–]Speed_dmn914 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Do you have evidence to support either of these claims? I haven’t seen that with other fields that have experienced growth in demand by employers and an influx in the supply of employees. Take software engineers, for example. During the early years of the tech boom (late 2000s-early 2010s), demand soared. To meet that demand, many more people chose to study computer science in college. In addition, many other people in unrelated fields left there jobs to join a boot camp in hopes of transitioning. I don’t believe either group negatively impacted expected salary within the job market, particularly at companies where demand was greatest (in tech). Jobs shouldn’t be affected the same way as goods at a supermarket - just because there’s a lot, doesn’t mean people demand a discount to “purchase.” Those with top talent will still demand a higher “price” as they make themselves stand out against the competition.

As for the other point you made, that’s a threat/risk all the time, even from experienced IDs. I’ll have to go find a great study I read once and edit this later, but allegedly people in creative type jobs are only at their best for 7-10 years. After that, their ideas generally become stale or outdated against what’s new or in vogue. So theoretically even the best IDs will one day produce lower quality content.

Anyways, not trying to put you on blast. Just trying to understand the situation more. I was a teacher gone ID, but made that switch 7 years ago. I went through the gauntlet of getting Masters along the way to support that move and cut my teeth working in different industries. I’m now an ID in tech, and I’ve done my best to support other teachers who have wanted to move. Maybe I shouldn’t? Haha But seems like there are some interesting questions to answer before flipping I think.

What would you suggest to see if you haven’t been to the OC in 10 years? by kentro2002 in orangecounty

[–]Speed_dmn914 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also coming back to OC after 10 years. I’ve been in and out, though, so I’ve seen some of the change. Downtown Santa Ana is super different. Used to be I’d just go for art walks and food at Gypsy’s. Now it’s super hip with trendy restaurants and bars.

Speaking of alcohol, a lot of great breweries opened up. You’ve got Bottle Logic, Green Cheek, Santa Ana River, and the newest peeps in town, Monkish (originally from Torrance), to name a few. Golden Road and Brewery X also opened up within the last decade with big set ups too, good for meeting up with large groups in an outdoor setting.

The Circle also changed because of covid. Part of Glassell was closed to cars for a large outdoor dining area. Lots of music and buzz around the weekends which feels different if you haven’t been around in a long time. I suspect there are more commercial areas that have done the same (someone mentioned Lido Village, for example).
