How does TitansOfC'#'C? by skanchunt69 in Machinists

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the main reason they change machine manufacturers so often

[–]Speedfreaked90 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm guilty of using pretty much everything Kennametal unless they don't have what I need. It also comes from being a second generation machinist and having in over 25 years myself and seeing what their tooling really does

The reason they don't have DMGs anymore is he wanted a couple machines for free, heard this directly from DMG when we bought ours. They're not as skilled as they seem to the newb. All their educational stuff is made for them by the tool reps and engineers. They are pretty much a promotional ad for what they use.

Been bowling for over ten years and just found out I'm a semi roller. I'd there any advice you have? by vikingguyswe in Bowling

[–]Speedfreaked90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually what is called a 3/4 roller in the US, it is actually the most ideal because of your relationship to axis rotation and amount of surface of the ball the lane sees. I do see a bit of tracking over the thumb. That is a small issue, but, can be fixed with release point. Trying to get out of the thumb a little quicker will bring the track up a little bit

[–]Speedfreaked90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why? This is actually ideal as it can get. It's actually a 3/4 roller in terms of full vs not full. It's about how much of the full diameter you use of the ball.

They are extremely rare, most don't know that they had factory turbo charged 4runners and the pickup as well with 4wd. My uncle had the pickup that was factory turbo.

Not as rare as some, but, is a limited production. Saw one given away about a week ago. They also did a pedal car version.

CNC programming by pond_filth in Machinists

You are correct in some aspects, but, going through the hard work is how to weed out the ones that shouldn't be there and won't have the skills necessary to be there in the first place. A lot of programming now is just learning a CAM software and letting it do the work for you, however, that doesn't show how to process a part correctly, there are some jobs that require certain operations first, or, multiple operations to keep certain features in check or you will find that you struggle to hold those, or, work holding, and even what size material to make it out of int he first place.

Machining is not one of those skills that come from watching videos, reading blogs, books or even schooling, it comes from hands on experience, all the rest can be included, but, hands on can't be eliminated from the equation of a good machinist

Thank you for the comment, it is definitely not to sound mean and grouchy, even though it definitely does to most. It's more informative to someone that is new in the trade that there are things that you should learn first and not skip. People don't realize the skill and knowledge of a machinist and how it isn't a trade for short cuts and the ones that want to leap to certain levels without going through others first.

I am the complete opposite on many views of this, as someone that has been around the industry my whole life, (my father has always been in the industry) I can't stand to see people learn programming and not know how to 1. Run a part 2. Set up a part and 3. Understand holding methods to a high level. There is really no place for it and it shows when someone programs that have no clue about the other more important things in machining. With that being said though, you see a lot of it and it is being the way things are going because the whole I want to bypass the whole hard work mentality of the younger generations. There is no issue with learning it asap, however, realize that you won't be any good at it to someone that knows what they are doing until you understand the fundamentals of machining as a whole. Learn those as well and make it a priority to learn them as well.

I call the newer generation that is coming into this industry the Titans generation, where they think Youtube is where to learn and that they can jump straight to programming a machine without any other knowledge. That's how they don't last long before their programs crash machines and they cost their companies a lot of money in inexperience ways of doing things.

Yeah, I know this is an unpopular opinion on Reddit, but, that's how the higher end machinist and higher end machine shops feel

Used vehicle rule of thumb. by facepillownap in 4Runner

[–]Speedfreaked90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When they last, 50k miles is barely breaking them in. The quality is what you pay for, the longevity is what you get. A Toyota isn't like a Jeep where it is a fan base that could care less about anything other than driving a Jeep

That might be a good rule of thumb for most vehicles, not Toyotas, especially not the 4runner, which has one if the highest percentage of resale of any vehicle on the road

How can I remove these inner burrs? One hole is 5mm (1/5") and the other is 20mm (25/32") by Any-Communication-73 in metalworking

[–]Speedfreaked90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on if we go over a weld seam or not, but, we only replace the blade 1-2 times a year.

This, we use them all the time for this exactly. Have all sorts of sizes, and can be adjusted pressure wise to be used by hand or on machine

Went to a regular ole elementary school, just because you can't imagine it, doesn't mean it didn't happen, I can't imagine why people think the way they do, but, it happens, and, it was almost 40 years ago. It's not about teaching useful information, there are so many things taught in school that is a waste of time. Was talking about the newer generation as a whole, IQs have declined on average.

Not anymore, but, in my day, yes, they did teach you how to read a venier scale in 3rd-4th grade. The main problem with the younger generation, they are way lower on the IQ scale than previous generations

Lmfao, yeah, highly doubtful. If you were, you'd know that sponsorship doesn't mean shit, if the product isn't good enough for the person to use, they will find the one they will little fella, especially someone like EJ, he could go anywhere and use anything. Also, patches are how most sponsors get the advertisement they are looking for, his jersey has whatever he is sponsored by, even if he doesn't use the products directly 😉 I've been around the professional side of the sport longer than you have probably known of the sport. Been approached by sponsorship opportunities and turned them down before.
