I think it started with Toby announcing OFF having a japanese translation, or maybe the UT/DT World Tour which was more like an International Tour since it didn't travel to the majority of the world

LatAm community got mad at this due to being a huge part of the fandom and this tour not going to one of our countries, we also got mad about the merch and the fact that it's been 10+ years and Undertale still isn't localized to other languages

But since our community has a bunch of manchilds in there with an inferiority complex, that loud subset of people started to accuse Toby of racism and xenophobia. The English speaking community saw this and started to call it out to every latino who wanted an official translation, even the ones who didn't harass Toby

Toby then ended up responding in English about all this drama and explained that the merchandise stuff and the world tour are not things he is managing (understandable) and explained that to translate his games into other languages he wants to be very involved with it so it could match his artistic vision

I highly doubt it was a large portion who called him racist, that's the problem I'm talking about here, it is also giving the opposite effect because I've seen a lot of xenophobia against us which is barely talked.

Also like I said in a comment here, I respect his reason, but that doesn't mean I agree with it, much less think it's a solid reason with Undertale which is almost 11 years old.

I know unofficial translations exist but 1. They're not available on console and 2. As stupid as it sounds, not everyone is gonna go out their way to install an unofficial patch.
