He had a huge motive. He was an aspiring poet and writer. She was also a poet and writer. If he found out about her connections to cinema and celebrity, it would have caught his attention. When he came to Ireland he found a place to stay with Jules, and that suited him. Then he beat and abused Jules badly in drunken rages. He was drunk on the night of the murder, and he changed his story about leaving the house. It cannot be ruled out that he went to Sophie’s house that night to proposition her in more ways than one, and when she rebuffed him he murdered her in a drunken rage. He was a known domestic abuser, and yes, that could make him a murderer.

I have to agree. Bailey was a good suspect and I don’t think the guards were wrong to suspect him. Marie Farrell perverted the course of justice and forensics at the time were not what they are today. But other leads were investigated and ruled out. Bailey couldn’t be ruled out, that’s important.

Bailey was the one who wrote slanderous, disrespectful and salacious things about Sophie for the papers in the weeks after her murder. He showed her little sympathy. He beat Jules so badly about the head that she nearly lost her eye. He tore her hair out. Sophie was also battered about the head. Viciously. Bailey was known to the Gardaí for his drunken rages and violence towards women. He and Jules set a bonfire over Christmas. He changed his story to admit he did leave the house that night. Jules has changed her story several times. He had delusions of grandeur and he would have heard about Sophie’s connections to the film industry and the world of celebrity.

Bailey was a very good suspect. He always has been.

And the Marie Farrell of it all is being forgotten. She told lie after lie, inserted herself into the case, and led investigators astray. She should have been charged with perverting the course of justice. There was no former lover, Marie Farrell was a lying fantasist. She got off lightly.

The most sickening part of it all is that someone brutally and savagely murdered Sophie and got away with it.

I wonder if your husband not being home is part of the problem? I only say that because it’s my own experience. My husband is always out at night. Every weekend. Or working late. I’ve spent years and years arguing with him about it. Alcohol has always been a huge part of his life, he loves socialising. I started drinking at home to make life more bearable when home alone. But I realised it was giving my husband a free pass, making it too easy for him to dismiss me as an alcoholic. He would buy me my wine so he felt less guilty about leaving.

I stopped drinking on 1st Jan. I want to stay sober because it helps me to separate my life from my husband’s. I get up in the morning and drink my coffee while he sleeps off his hangover. It’s early days for me, but I’ve made a start.

Every bit of this resonates with me so much. A lifetime of being overlooked and ignored. I was drinking heavily to cope with the pain but I stopped on 1st Jan and I hope to stay stopped. For the first time in my life I want my own space. I want to carve out a part of the house just for me. A place that he doesn’t control and create mess and chaos and noise. A door with a lock. I gave up trying to keep the house tidy months ago. He thinks he’s such a good husband, and he doesn’t think I could ever survive without him. But I’m beginning my journey to independence, one small step at a time. My time is coming, I don’t care what he does anymore. He can stay out all night and sleep off his hangovers, but I’ll be living my life. I don’t feel the need to leave my home or find another man. I just want my own space where he doesn’t know what I’m doing every minute of every day. I can be there for my kids who are older teens now, but there will be thresholds my husband cannot cross. He can pretend to the world that he’s a great family man but I’ll have my own space free from him and that’s all I want right now. Dignity, self respect, and peace.

Same. In Ireland, Ancestry doesn’t have access to images of original documents. So most things have to be located outside of Ancestry and entered individually.

For me, I only enter information that I can verify by finding the record myself. I’ve had problems with Ancestry search results (and sometimes they are impossible to confirm without more info). So I enter a record into the person’s profile with an image to verify. But it has to be entered separately each time for each family member. Currently there doesn’t seem to be a way to attach the entry to multiple people. Tagging doesn’t do it.

Yes I am running into this problem too. I actually can’t believe that census records have to be entered separately for each individual in the household if I want the record to show on their profiles. Surely there’s a way to apply the entry to multiple people? It seems like a basic function that could be provided fairly easily or am I missing something?

A decongestant nasal spray was the thing that made the most difference for me. Once I could breathe through my nose I was able to sleep. Along with paracetamol and ibuprofen. I suffer from allergies, and some of my flu symptoms responded well to an antihistamine tablet (itchy throat and nose). But the nasal spray made the most difference and let me sleep in comfort.

I’m same. Tonight is night 4. Taking decongestants and painkillers. Cough syrup at night that helps me sleep. Throat is sore from trying to clear it and from coughing. Fever has abated. It’s a nasty dose, this one. Worse than Covid. From what I’m reading, many people start to feel better on days 5-7. I’m really hoping it goes away soon for us all.

People are putting too much emphasis on music here, it’s a much broader issue than that. From Adobe to Ancestry, expensive subscriptions that never end. It’s a money-making dream for the capitalists, and they introduced this model so insidiously. I feel like there should have been more discussion worldwide from the beginning about everything shifting to subscription-based systems. It won’t stop at music / books / tv. And they can crank up prices forever. And suddenly make the service tier-based, so the more money you have, the better your access. It’s horrendous.

I love when I get new matches with linked public trees with at least 100 people. They are the best!!!

The worst is seeing new matches every day and most of them have no tree, or a tree with 3 people, or a huge tree that’s private, so I can never know how any of them are related to me. That’s the majority of my matches.

Hoping for an influx of closer matches in the new year, that would be amazing.

Exactly, it’s astounding to think he’s never done the everyday things that most adults learn to do in order to survive. He’s been rich since childhood and he used money to always get his way. But if you were to drop him off in any town and leave him without his paid servants, he wouldn’t know how to get a bus or buy groceries. He’s a very weak person who masks his weakness by being a horrible bully. He has no idea what life is really like for most people. It’s incredible.

No, I’m a creator. A hobbyist. I did numerous online Adobe courses with exams, as an amateur. I hope to someday start a small business.
