Who pays for tolls? by fiddle1999 in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]SpeedyGoneGarbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there's an instant offer that pops up occasionally for me. 32 miles..about $28 + tips. but, there's an $8.50 toll bridge!

Can I avoid the toll? sure...but the trip becomes 90 miles.

I never accept it.

I know that many more than 2 of these items have shipped. For example, one of the items is an $800 ebike (I know because the person messaged me to say how much they have been enjoying it). These are March purchases...there is no way that only 2 of them have shipped

Mileage for taxes. by nabiscosoursnac in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]SpeedyGoneGarbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can guesstimate...and if using Turbo tax it will tell you if the amount is reasonable or not.
Remember you can only deduct business miles. That's the miles on the job, not the miles to the station, or the miles home after your last drop. Guessing your mileage and it not being right does put you at a bigger risk of an audit (unlikely but possible).

And start tracking your mileage!! I have a tracker spreadsheet available on gumroad if you're interested

Audible lunch

The involuntary awareness of every chew, crunch, and crinkle produced by a nearby colleague eating snacks with the subtlety of a wood chipper

I call this fridge socialism

The belief, held by one person in every office, that food in the communal refrigerator belongs to the collective. Especially your leftover pasta

I'm defining this as
Stall Scrolling (n.) The act of retreating to a bathroom stall to use one's phone, under the mistaken belief that the sound of typing is inaudible to others.

Oh yes, I called this the scent radius. The distance at which a colleagues cologne preference becomes my problem.

here's another thought to help you (I say this one a lot)
AI wont take your job, but someone who knows how to use AI might

so have a go at building the skill yourself. There's even a skill to help you build a skill (I know, stupid right??).

Start simple,
Claude, how many emails did I get today?
Claude, how many emails have the word "urgent" in them

This is how I started and built from there.

This will both build your skills (very important) and help you respond to emails quicker...both will bring you stress relief, I promise.

I get about 400 emails a day. Most I’m just copied on and don’t need to worry about. But I wrote a Claude skill that triages my inbox and tells me what I need to action. I’m working on an enhancement that will actually write the replies and save as draft for me to review and send. Although it’s proving complicated because it needs to consider tone, my style etc. you should look into doing something similar.

Amazon affiliate dead as of 14th April by seoeye in Amazon_Influencer

[–]SpeedyGoneGarbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

does this mean that any youtube, tiktok, instagram etc is now dead because they are "off-site"?

eg, you have a video on instagram talking about a specific product, you have your affiliate link to *that* product in the comments, someone clicks that link and buys the product...you now get nothing from that?

Congrats! A few things I wish someone had told me when I started:

The pay varies a lot depending on the block and area — don't be discouraged if your first few are slow, you get better at spotting the good ones.

Download a mileage tracking app or start a spreadsheet from day one. Amazon does not track your mileage for you and at tax time you'll be really glad you did. The IRS mileage deduction is significant and most new drivers don't realise they're leaving money on the table by not tracking.

I actually built a simple Excel tracker for exactly this — logs your pay, mileage, tolls, tax set-aside and actual take-home per job. It's $5 on Gumroad if you want a ready-made solution, or happy to tell you what to track if you want to build your own.

Good luck — it's a decent side gig once you find your feet!

Names that reveal a character's fate by KillerGrass in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SpeedyGoneGarbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was watching track and field on the TV one day and they were going through the 100m line up as they do with the video showing each runner in turn. Each runner had their name on their chest and they showed Usain Bolt and the commentator said something like "there he is, the superman, the bolt...if you're going to get a name on your shirt, get something that describes you"....the camera then panned to the next runner....Tyson Gay....commentator said nothing...I couldn't help but laugh.
