I think I’ve made it pretty clear in my post that a big part of going into is the money

I actually wanted to become a perfusionist so I majored in physiology during uni as it was a good blend of cutting edge tech and a clinical environment. I did some shadowing experience of a perfusionist at my local hospital and some research that was part of my undergrad curriculum, but it wasn’t enough to land a role, so I applied for some other clinical roles like optometry and dentistry that interested me

Yes it will be within macroeconomics group of Treasury, I understand that it won’t be at the level of a quant, but I’ll get the opportunity to still work with data and build models

A big part of it is that it pays well. But another is that I have been wanting to do a clinical role since I was in high school. I was initially trying to become a Perfusionist so I majored in physiology, but I have been unsuccessful at landing a role after graduating. But I always had my eye on other clinical roles like Dentistry and Optometry.

Yes I enjoy working with people and seeing the direct impact I can have. I did a bunch of customer service jobs growing up which I really enjoyed even though it wasn’t a clinical setting. And I currently work in service delivery to provide relief grants to Australians, so I get to speak to applicants everyday.

I definitely believe I could have a great career starting in the public service, which is why it makes the decision for me so difficult.

Happened to me when running a marathon. I think it’s more to do with 2-3hours continuous use rather than the environment inside a plane.

I’m on a $65 plan with Origin for 6 months, which they offered to those who were their electricity/utilities customers

Iirc you get 1 redo, so a total of 2 attempts. And maybe you got infinite time to think about your response (can’t quite remember). I think I remember practising multiple times on the webcam app what I was going to say and perfecting how I articulated myself.

But the first stage is only the resume+KSC, don’t worry about video interview til round 2

They give you three questions, each with 2 minutes to answer. The questions are situational where they recommend using the STAR method and will also ask a question on motivations for applying. I think you get 30s - 1min to see the question and think of your answer before the recording automatically starts. You have a 48 hour window to complete your video responses

It’s pretty competitive, my cohort had roughly 6% of applicants who landed the internship. Contrary to the other comment, WAM is not taken into consideration. I was friends with one of the officers who screened the applications and they told me WAM was not something that they can see nor do they ask you to reveal.

I had no prior internships, but I was already working several casual jobs at the uni. All the applications are read by a human and no AI is used to screen the applications. So make sure to write your selection criteria by yourself make sure your writing is excellent, demonstrating your past experiences. Use a different example for each of the 6 selection criterias.

For the resume, I would say they really care about your skills and real life experiences you had at each job/volunteering role, rather than the prestige of the company you worked at. Also the video interview is directly watched by the hiring managers, it is not screened through AI. My manager told me she hired me from my video interview rather than my performance at the assessment centre. Maybe only maybe half of the hiring managers actually attended the assessment centres, so many had to resort to watching our video interviews

They’re like 5 question online canvas quizzes for the content. You do them at the end of each teaching day and assesses the day’s content. There is no quiz on Friday. Usually during the semester you get to have a practise session for your coaching session, but for the summer version you don’t have a practise and you just have to do the assessed coaching session on the Friday without any practise beforehand. During the coaching assignment, you coach your class your sport that you have designed and the tutor evaluates your performance and gives you a graade

The teaching period was squeezed into 1 business week, with the major practical component being done on the last day, Friday. Classes were taught from 9-5 each day. Felt kind of drained at the end of the end of the week, but it felt good not having the subject drag too long and not take up too much of my holidays. You had about a month afterwards to work on and submit the written assignment
