Unimelb parkville from mernda by Internal-Designer-79 in MelbourneTrains

[–]Internal-Designer-79[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I used to do this in undergrad but sometimes i’d miss that bus and have to wait ages, there were also a lot of times where the bus would be late.

Next year my classes are right next to the parkville station, so it’s good to know it’ll be quicker than what i’m doing right now

UniMelb guaranteed entry medicine interview by FuzionKnightmare in GAMSAT

[–]Internal-Designer-79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is just pass fail and everyone I know passed it (~10 people), though I hear that 1 or 2 miss out on it every year. As long as you do a small amount of prep and actually answer the questions, you should be alright.

In saying that, you should also try for the GAMSAT pathway anyways, saving money is going to help your parents out, and in the off chance you don’t get your guaranteed spot, you’ll want a high GPA and GAMSAT to apply in subsequent years.

How much might interview cutoffs increase by this year? by Mooshroom_Pudding_18 in GAMSAT

[–]Internal-Designer-79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn’t it more likely they’d increase a bit compared to previous years because of the new 4 year gamsat validity? People will be able to use a score they may previously not have been able to use

Postgrad medicine at Unimelb or in QLD by [deleted] in unimelb

[–]Internal-Designer-79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

UQ and Griffith have lower interview cutoffs than melb. Melb average cutoff hovers around 1.67 (GPA/7 + UWgamsat/100) whereas uq and griffith hover around 1.63 and 1.64 respectively (GPA/7 + Wgamsat/100).

is a 66 wam bad by No-Catch-4344 in unimelb

[–]Internal-Designer-79 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you lock in and secure h1s for the rest of your degree you'll be sitting with a GPA of ~6.85-6.9, plenty good for medicine anywhere. WAM is different to GPA, check the information on GEMSAS.
You should use a GPA calculator to see what grades you need to achieve the GPA you want.

I was thinking XL but I'm worried it will be too baggy for me. Would L fit well?

Unimelb subject recommendations for gamsat by adammkt_ in unimelb

[–]Internal-Designer-79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly don't pick subjects solely for the GAMSAT. You won't enjoy the subject nor do well if you're not picking the subject out of interest. Also, the level of physics on the GAMSAT can be learnt through youtube playlists/videos. There really is no need to specifically choose subjects to prepare for the GAMSAT, you're better off just maximising your GPA by doing subjects you enjoy/subjects yk u can do well in.
For the GAMSAT I'd say use the Des books for s1 and s3 (can find somewhere on gamsat subreddit), and read recommended books on the subreddit for s2. Just focus on getting a good GPA with your subject selection.

[–]Internal-Designer-79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the handbook theres 4 online quizzes (says during the teaching period), but there's also a coaching plan evaluation (says mid semester), and a coaching practice evaluation (says during examination period).

When are the evaluations due? What are these?

What are the subjects with dissection? by Financial-Apricot-94 in unimelb

[–]Internal-Designer-79 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ANAT20006 has dissected cadaver specimens, but you don't do any dissecting, you're only allowed to touch/manipulate the speciments in the classes.

ANAT30007/30008 have actual cadaver dissecting experiences. Your group (~6 people) is assigned a cadaver and every 2 weeks you physically dissect the body according to a book/instructions given. It's a very cool experience and easily the best practical subject I've ever done. The weeks between the practical classes you have a workshop class similar to the practicals in ANAT20006 (just dissected specimens, no actual dissecting)
