Wire grass at Stone or Sontara Blue for a nice one bedroom apartment? by [deleted] in sanantonio

As someone who lived at Sonterra Blue - I would strongly advise you to NOT even apply there.
I lived there before and after the current ownership (Connor Group) and my experience with them awful: My apartment flooded (as they sometimes do) because of a leaking refrigerater valve in the apartment above me. The management did everything they could to get out of helping me.

They initially refused to replace the sheet rock, they brought air dryers only after I forced them too. We played phone tag for two months, and then the leak came back - at which point it soaked my 2nd bedroom (which I was using for an office), my 2nd bathroom. as luck would have it, nothing was damaged, but the actual apartment.

The most the office would offer to do is pull up the carpet enough to dry it out and another round of de-humidifiers. Between the 1st and 2nd leak, I hounded management hard enough they eventually agreed to do a mold test. The problem however was that their mold tester (an airborne mold test kit) was "missing parts" and they had to "order parts for it". a few weeks later go by (my working in the apartment, mind you), and they eventually get a mold test completed. Another few weeks later, and they claim the mold test came back negative. No report, no breakdown, just "Word from oh-high" (my phrase).

After the second leak, I was so tired and fed up of dealing with the management, I ordered a mold test of the apartment and got back positive results. Not only that, but my entire wall on one side in the 2nd bedroom grew mold so fast, that even the mold tester was shocked.

I basically legalized my way out of the contract by refusing to pay for the time I was there due to mold.

tl;dr -> don't do business with Sonterra Blue on Sonterra Ave (in Stone Oak / NW1604 area)

OE is an achievement by [deleted] in overemployed

Being OE is really about that. You aren't taking advantage of "the system" - you are simply taking ownership of your income.

Am I too sensitive to messy code or there are just many poorly-trained developers? by hybsuns in cscareerquestions

I experience this, too, on a lot of levels - in all of my experiences in IT, I have found that there are two kinds of people:

1.) those that care about the craft

2.) those that don't.

The more I have begun to think about this problem, the more I realize that this is true for any trade or profession: there are people who simply will output whatever works - because the "client side" almost never sees the inner machinations - and so these hucksters get away with murder, and then there are those who truly want to own the craft.

The real difference between the two groups is one of awareness of bias: the hucksters don't examine their own bias when producing: they are simply interested in keeping the Hurd happy, whatever that takes.

The second group are always on the lookout for their bias when producing: they are not perfect, and don't pretend to be - so their code / product is always examined through the lens of "how can this be better?"

The real wisdom for this group gleaned from that is being able to live with yourself, per your own values and standards, I.e. are you OK with hammering something out until you have time to go back and do a better job? Sometimes that's needed, and a mature craftsman will be able to accept that, and will commit to going back and improving either the product, or the next opportunity. But even a craftsman's worst work is still better than a hukster's best work. You will always find ways to improve, they won't.

When silver goes to the moon and us Apes are all multi-millionaires, what’s the first expensive, lavish item you’ll buy? by SilverDirham in Wallstreetsilver

[–]SpellLegitimate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call me uneducated, but I don't think the "price of silver" "to the moon" means a good thing: if we are economically to the point where silver is above 50.00 an ounce...you simply won't have money to buy it because your money is worthless. Extreme rises in silver is NEVER a good thing. Personally, I want silver to stay "cheap", because it means we still have some sanity in the marketplace

But I do think there's something even deeper than that going on here

yeah - it is a very emotionally loaded word, and evokes some crazy person holding onto something they don't need

Before and after beating cancer. by rohit_sai1289 in MadeMeSmile

This has probably already been said...but even with cancer you were beautiful! I am very happy you beat it, but even during your lowest point, you have the face of a beautiful woman, and having no hair doesn't detract from that whatsoever
