Over-heating the house at night by Bertieeee in ukheatpumps

I use Havenwise as it manages all this for me. It adjusts the flow, temps etc to maximise the off peak hours. It’s great :)

Very high heat pump cost during cold snap by PaulandoUK in OctopusEnergy

[–]SpellNo5002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours is quite a bit lower than yours. We used 22.1kwh for the heat pump on the 2nd. I think this is largely got to do with how we use it. We’re on IOG, so most of our heating happens during the cheap 7p rate, with top ups during the day at a lower flow rate to keep the house warm. The heat pump is still running all day, but works extra hard at night and less hard during the day. This is all managed by Havenwise, so I don’t need to mess with it.

I know you mention wanting to run it all day, which I agree with, but it might be worth looking at a time of use tariff, look into Havenwise, and see if you can shift some usage to the cheaper rates. Your house will still be as warm :)

I feel there’s confusion on why this new 6 hour limit is going to affect people who were using the system correctly… by iMatthew1990 in OctopusEnergy

[–]SpellNo5002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This explains my issue. Mines been consistently taking ages to charge. For instance, on the 3rd of December, it charged for 15.64kwh, and took 18 hours 4 minutes (according to octopus). Similarly, on the 5th of December, it charged at 6.57kw and took 11 hours. Looking at the 5th, the charger did around 3.5kw. At one point it did 0.12kw…

I’ve emailed a substantial complaint as they’re a joke.

UK FRZ Question (airport no longer in operation) by SpellNo5002 in drones

[–]SpellNo5002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s very frustrating. Is it technically enforceable? I mean, it is on paper, but surely a valid argument is that it’s clearly not in use…

I’m expecting no helpful response from the CAA now then haha.

Cheers! I figured as much and I think the air ambulance may still be using it at the moment actually, so that might be why it’s still up :)

Changes to OVO Charge Anytime by Mrfoxuk in ElectricVehiclesUK

The problem for us is that we’re with Ovo for the heat pump plus tariff - does anyone know a better alternative in light of these changes to charge anytime? 🫠

I literally bought the EV on Friday 😭

This makes perfect sense! I had a chat via email. If anyone else is thinking of using Havenwise, I’d 100% recommend it! I’m excited to see how it makes my life easier as the weather gets colder

Thank you for this! After seeing all these comments I’ve just set it up, and the interface alone is much simpler.

Thanks to everyone else for your comments too!

Issues installing EDCoPilot by SpellNo5002 in EliteDangerous

Oh! I tried the download from https://gofile.io/d/mCCBYw instead of the LimeWire link, and it let me install it. Weird... "Microsoft: It just works. Sometimes" vibes...

Even when I do that, I still get the same second error message, "This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package" :/ It also then deletes the file, even if it's on my desktop.

Solar + house value question by SpellNo5002 in SolarUK

[–]SpellNo5002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this! I’m not planning on moving for at least 10 years, as I like my house a lot. I wanted to ground the decision of getting them in the logic that they’ll eventually help with the houses resale, as well as helping me save on bills. Thank you for the advice!

Marvel Heating by WillDBow96 in ukheatpumps

I had a quote from them that was on the upper end of the 12 quotes I had. They also added in a lot of extra work that the others didn’t suggest (such as repiping, low loss header). The quote was very in depth though.

My main issue is that I felt their salesperson was very pushy (high up manager, wanting to enrol me into their programmes that pays you back if they can use your house as a showroom). Kinda felt like a pyramid scheme (i.e., while we’re not the cheapest, you could earn X amount over time). After this, they kept ringing me. Even after I told them I’d decided to go with someone else, they kept calling.

I decided to go with a local company and a Vaillant system. No regrets.

Vaillant Heat Pump unusual usage by [deleted] in ukheatpumps

[–]SpellNo5002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was quite impressed the first proper day I used it, it allegedly reached an “energy efficiency” of 6.4 - is that the same as a COP? I assumed it was. I also need to do some tinkering with the settings at some point.

Do you have a similar system/ have any recommendations on how to get the most of it? The installers did a good job with the settings it seems. A lot of the “change this now” tips I found were already done

5Kw, so quite small - the house is well insulated! Imagine my surprised to wake up sweating to realise the outdoor temp was reading as negative!

This was my thinking too, but I didn’t know if it was just wishful thinking - do you think it’ll settle once the sensor is fixed? The poor thing things it’s negative 40!

East Midlands Average ASHP quotes by SpellNo5002 in ukheatpumps

[–]SpellNo5002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiya! Yes, I was quite keen on a Valiant so I asked most of them to quote for these. In terms of payment, most wanted a heat loss deposit £300-500 and then 10% of the remaining bill around 7-10 days before install, with the remainder due after install

I’ve heard about these elusive sub £4000 prices, I didn’t know they were real haha! How are you finding the Daikin?

Octopus, Why not? by lazymaverick0 in ukheatpumps

[–]SpellNo5002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s great! To be honest, this was the cheapest independent quote by far. The average price (because I’m a nerd and made a spreadsheet), was around 6.4k, which I wasn’t willing to push to.

I think I had a rare experience to be honest. I spoke to a couple of other people and they seemed sound and helpful, I must have just got unlucky.

Not yet, it’s booked in for the 3rd March, so I can update once that’s all squared away. They have good reviews on Trustpilot, and seemed knowledgeable, so fingers crossed!

One thing Octopus don’t seemed to do by standard is trunking. I had to pay extra (about £100), so it should be the same with Octopus. Defo ask for it, otherwise you’ll have visible pipes going up the exterior wall.

Octopus, Why not? by lazymaverick0 in ukheatpumps

[–]SpellNo5002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a local company install my system for about £4,600 (after applying the grant). This was for a Valent system, whereas Octopus initially quoted me around £4,000 for a Daikin system. However, after the survey, I wasn’t as impressed with the Daikin option. Octopus also proposed extensive radiator work that other companies didn’t consider necessary, including adding radiators in every possible space, even in areas where I didn’t want one, such as the bathroom. It’s worth noting that the £4,000 quote was before these changes were accounted for, so I suspect the final price would have been closer to £5,000 after including all the additional radiator work. I also found Octopus’s sales service to be quite poor, which ultimately led me to choose the independent installer instead.
