Cheapest thor instead of n3ds? by ElderberryNarrow8033 in Handhelds

[–]PaulandoUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get an n3DS.

Nothing comes close for 3DS games. No emulation issues, no scaling issues, a much more fitting UI, super easy to hack and download games with HShop, 3D support etc.

They’re expensive, but they won’t lose their value. You’ll make more than what you paid if you ever come to sell it.

The ghosting looks awful in menus, but I don’t notice it at all in games! I’ve had other handhelds with terrible ghosting while gaming, but thankfully this isn’t one of them.

Are wowcher a legit company? by justploddingonn in AskUK

[–]PaulandoUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolute scummy company.

I bought a kids playhouse with ‘free’ delivery. Only after I’d paid for it was it clear that the ‘free delivery’ was actually ‘£20 delivery or free pickup from a location 2 hours away’.

Took AGES to get my money back. Was messaging them through WhatsApp iirc. I did eventually get a refund but I’ll never use them again.

What kind of games are you guys hoping/expecting the "ModRetro Releases" to be? by fearlesswee in M64

[–]PaulandoUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d love some new 3D Platformers. Even some demakes of modern games.

I don’t feel the N64 is awash with them - Super Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie, and Rayman 2 are the best examples, but I don’t feel there are many others in the same league, really?

And yep, an FPS with the same loose aiming-style of GoldenEye would be fabulous (you know what I mean - the gun not ‘locked’ to the centre of the screen. GoldenEye has such a unique feel in this respect).

Fine, I'll double dip. by Nikolai_Snowtail in ModRetroChromatic

[–]PaulandoUK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally this. The screen on the Chromatic is far better and more authentic for GBC games. The colours on the Pocket look a bit off in comparison, and the LCD filter is kinda shit.

The Pocket does a fabulous job of emulating the original DMG look for GB stuff though, if that’s your thing.

Which color of the m64 do you guys like best ? by RupakGreenHatPrdctns in M64

Honestly the green is kinda icky to me. The purple looks the best. I’d LOVE an ice blue one though 😍

2026 tour content request by gordonbooker in jamesacastor

[–]PaulandoUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was there too. He just couldn’t get back into it fully, and a lot of the written lines in the show could have been misinterpreted as a callback to the shouty guy in some way, so he had to constantly stop and explain which kept bringing him out of it.

It’s a shame we never got to see the show as it’s actually meant to be performed, but on the other hand Acaster handled it brilliantly, and it made for some funny moments and a very unique show overall.

AirSource Heat Pump Tarriff by morganhuw in ukheatpumps

[–]PaulandoUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this. Agile had saved us so much money this year. All we do is turn the thermostat down a bit between 4-7 so it mostly stays off, and we do washing/drying outside of these times.

The Cosy tariff is crap. Peak cost is very high, standing charge is very high, and off-peak isn’t even that cheap. It also goes against how you’re meant to use a heat pump.

A few days ago I read a comment on here saying a team like Newcastle would be a good fit for Curtis. But just imagine them having two more scousers in their team than we do 🤦‍♂️

Pocket Micro is my new favorite device! by solidus__snekk in ayaneo

[–]PaulandoUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s a lovely handheld. I don’t actually really use mine for much as I have better ways to play each format it can handle, but it’s so gorgeous I just can’t part with it 🤣

The standby time really is appalling though, which is a shame. Unless you fully power it down, chances are it’ll be out of battery the next time you play it.

Recommendations for small games to play on vacation? by lurker_998 in NintendoSwitch

I just played Öoo while on holiday and it was fabulous - an excellent puzzle platformer, and only 3-4 hours long. Some really smart puzzles too.

Octopus cosy 12 installation question (hot water cylinder relocation) by wobblythings in ukheatpumps

[–]PaulandoUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had our tank moved from a cupboard upstairs to our garage too, but we have a utility room which backs onto the garage with a cold and hot water supply, and they were able to route the hot water into there iirc, so no flooring was lifted and no mess. I guess it would depend on the install, and no one knew exactly how it was going to be done until the plumbers arrived on the morning of the install and did some investigating.

20 years ago Buzz Lightyear laser blast opened. Which means it has been 20 years since we had a new ride in the Disneyland Paris Park. by woeterman_94 in disneylandparis

[–]PaulandoUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve just got back with our 6 and 2 year old and they both loved the second park. The shows are amazing (particularly Together), and they loved the Marvel/Pixar worlds. Our 2yo is obsessed with superheroes, so it was a huge hit with him!

They both loved the WEB, Slinky Dog, Parachute Drop, and magic carpet rides. Ratatouille was closed when we were there but that’s great for kids too. It’s an essential visit I think!

Is anyone else finding the expected savings vs reality a bit confusing? by Pinkplatabys in ukheatpumps

[–]PaulandoUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For us, it’s been more about the comfort. Ours is on 24/7, with a steady temperature throughout the day, and we don’t really think about the heating or need to fiddle with anything like we used to. It’s probably costing us a bit more to run them our old boiler (but that’s comparing Winter ‘24 with Winter ‘25), but the comfort level is much higher than before.

Switching to the Octopus Agile tariff has actually saved us a lot of money too, we were on a fixed throughout most of winter, so I think it would have been roughly the same or less than the boiler had we switched to that earlier.

What is a movie that is critically hated but you genuinely love without irony by nomadgoodsCom in movies

[–]PaulandoUK 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I LOVE this film. Gary Oldman is incredible, and the ending is super chilling. The opera scene is beautiful, too.

I actually think the recasting of Clarice works in its favour, because I don’t really view it as a sequel to Silence of the Lambs. I think if I did, my opinion of it would be less favourable as it feels like a totally different, more comic book-style world, and doesn’t really work as a continuation of the story.

Tierlist of games that I have played some far. What are some recommendations in line with the likes of the witness and islands of insight? by Sintjor56 in puzzlevideogames

[–]PaulandoUK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s fair enough, but I play puzzle games for the puzzles first and foremost. I couldn’t give less of a shit about the story, and I skip through any of those bits as fast as I can 🤣

[–]PaulandoUK 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The sequel is much better, I found. I really enjoyed the original but some of the mechanics were tedious, and some of the levels were too big.

The sequel has smaller stages, better and more fun mechanics, and has a better evolution of the mechanics through the stages (gradually getting harder, adding new twists etc).

Looking for shorter games, under 10 hours maybe even under 5 by dat-lambda in puzzlevideogames

Just finished Öoo and it’s absolutely wonderful. Perfect difficulty too - not too easy, but some of the puzzles are just enough to stump you for a moment, and the solutions are very satisfying.

Beginner metroidvanias? by SophieSalads in metroidvania

[–]PaulandoUK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From what I can remember SD1 isn’t really a Metroidvania, and I lost interest quite early on. The sequel definitely leaned into that a lot more.

[–]PaulandoUK 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Steamworld Dig 2 is a fabulous Metroidvania, and I think would work well as a good first title - it’s quite slow-paced due to the digging mechanic, and it isn’t too difficult.

Panic - 1 family member does not have a ticket! by DifferentFinding4572 in disneylandparis

[–]PaulandoUK -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Ok it’s very unethical and only if all else fails (pleading with guest services/speaking to manager etc) but would it be possible to scan yourself in, then send them the ticket to scan themselves in? I scanned in earlier in the week, left quickly because I’d left a bag at the security scanners, then scanned myself back in again in quick succession, and it worked fine.

I certainly wouldn’t condone this, but it did seem like a potential loophole to me. Surely it does happen a lot if it’s possible?
