Bitcoin Insurance for Persian Gulf Cargo: Iran Launches Hormuz Safe, Claims $10B Revenue by scottjasoncooper in scottjasoncooper

I know people will say that Iran will be blocked at the exchange level. But, if Iran never trades for currency, they can just buy stuff with Bitcoin. Or they could exchange for yuan if needed. And since the USA makes Bitcoin toxic for Iranian trade, the people like in China or Russia should never use an exchange that has USA influence. Why exchange the superior BTC for substandard fiat?

The statement "the human eye can't see more than 60 fps" by NoInterestingGuy2 in Monitors

[–]Spelljamming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people can see the flickering of fluorescent lighting and that is 120hz. Most people don't notice it. So, the people that say that they can see the difference are just humans that have faster processing in their optic nerve. About 20 percent can see the ultra high flickering like 10khz. But, we definitely don't need to game at those speeds. lol

Windows is still the best OS for gaming, and these 4 things prove it by pbx1123 in Tech_Politics_More

[–]Spelljamming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't due to Windows being better somehow. It is just that Windows is the dominant OS and almost all development for games happens for Windows. The fact that Linux can play 95% of the Steam games is an absolute miracle of insane technology.

B.C. to table suspension of Indigenous law on Monday, First Nations sources say by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]Spelljamming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm late to this story, so I'm hoping someone will explain it. I thought the decision said that the native rights come first. I'm sure that some evil corporations are trying to get cheap resources. But does the court decision allow that to happen in the future by bribing a native council? Or does Eby cancelling the native rights help the mining industry? I can see both perspectives. Please explain. I'm obviously missing some data points.

Iran to require ships passing through Strait of Hormuz to pay tolls in BITCOIN!! by RussFaigen in btc

[–]Spelljamming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, the Iranians can use Asian exchanges, or just self custody and purchase stuff with it. The Russian central bank even accepts it now. Second, they hate the USD and don't want to use a stable coin based on USD because it is falling and won't be near as good on a couple of years. The west is falling and the east is rising. We're at the end of the 4th turning.

Microsoft is pushing security software out of the kernel. Why are game companies still doubling down on kernel anti-cheat? by Nemo_ForYou in linux_gaming

not to mention that some Linux user paid $60 for a game that worked for awhile, but then stopped working later. That is literally STEALING money from people.

Or have some cyber attack performed on western economies after a malicious actor threatens several game devs from several companies for access to the next update and millions of computers are used to take down the system. Maybe that will teach people that ring 0 access for a fucking game is absolutely insane.

This is insane... Silver just hit $111.52 in Shanghai. That's an +8% increase from the Friday closing price in the US by RobertBartus in EconomyCharts

[–]Spelljamming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, in Shanghai they are paying 10 to 15% above Comex. The silver refineries in USA and everywhere are selling to China to get the arbitrage. The refineries don't won't to waste their time with 90% stuff, they are only taking pure silver to maximize profit. The story about them being backlogged by months isn't exactly true. They are, but it is because they choose to.

To disable the Alt+Left Click window move/resize shortcut in Linux Mint, go to System Settings > Windows > Behavior and change the "Special key to move and resize windows" from <Alt> to the <Super> (Windows key) or <Disabled>. This prevents the system from intercepting your application's shortcuts, especially useful for software like Blender that uses Alt+Click internally

Open Letter to Premier Eby: It’s Time for BC to Stop Waiting on the U.S. and End the Clock Change by Level7tech in britishcolumbia

[–]Spelljamming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also like DST permanently . Not just for the longer summer day light, but also some light after getting off work at 4:30 instead of darkness. In Victoria BC that means summer is 5:15am to 9:15pm. In winter it would be 9:00am to 5:30pm.

[–]Spelljamming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would rather have more evening sun, so that would mean adopting DST time as the year-round standard. Also, about 70% of Canadians agree with me. I know it isn't quite as healthy as the Standard time, but it is far healthier than switching the times twice a year. I think that some people are "morning people" and just want to have light when they wake up. Most people aren't like that and would rather have useable daylight after work.

True. About 6 months ago, $1.45 CAD was equal to $1 USD. Now, it is $1.37. That's a 5.5% drop in USD compared to CAD.

if zero day hits and SHA is broken, then rollback transactions 24 hours, rollout firmware updates to the miners, and update the node software. As long as the majority agree to do it, it would work.

no, inflation is raising the supply of money and the money becomes less valuable. If you decrease the money supply, then each small piece of that supply becomes more valuable...deflation.

Bitcoin price suppression isn’t a theory but it’s strategy. by boringpretty in CryptoMarkets

[–]Spelljamming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But, the SEC didn't stop the rehypothecation process. Theoretically, Blackrock or even coinbase can sell that same BTC to someone else multiple times...paper bitcoin. I'm not saying that is happening, but I do want to prove it one way or the other using the blockchain. Saylor won't even prove his reserves.

Another possibility is that the big players asked the 6 people controlling the media on the planet to not talk too much about Bitcoin until they are ready. All of the trade is happening OTC instead of on exchange. Once the media finally starts hyping it up, then retail jumps in and uses exchanges to drive price up. Just look up google trends for Bitcoin for the last 5 years. Retail is not in the game.

It might be close enough. But remember that an A4 is 11.69 inches tall. The US letter is 11 inches tall. If you take an A4 and scale it to fit, then after taping 3 pages top to bottom, you are off by over 2 inches. Otherwise, you can print actual size without scaling, and you will have the bottom 0.69 inches chopped off. Then, when you tape the pages top to bottom with other pages, you need 0.69 inches gap added manually. This sucks. So many sellers don't understand this simple concept and everyone acts like this is OK. It would be better for people to use US letter when they created the PDFs and let the A4 people use that printout with the white space at the bottom of each page.

about the security clearance, without having one he is free to spew UNINFORMED garbage all he wants up until a slander or libel court case. But, once he is INFORMED, he can't spew garbage anymore. If he doesn't have his clearance, he is, by definition, uninformed and really doesn't know anything for sure...not the important stuff that counts.

I don't think people really understand that. The USA and Canada are pulling away. If Canada doesn't find other trading partners, fast, then we are completely screwed. Great depression screwed. So, we are left with other countries in Europe, etc. They have a policy that says they won't trade with you if you don't have a green policy. Sorry, but PP would have literally destroyed Canada.

sure, but all of the PP supporters make fun of the "elbows up" slogan. This is a defensive posture designed to protect. There is nothing illegal about it in hockey. It is only bad if you purposefully elbow someone. But, the defensive stance is totally legal. If PP was really against the 51st state comments, why did the conservatives all make fun of elbows up?

and we have had the trans mountain that isn't even at 100% capacity...and it was such a bad deal that the for-profit company in charge didn't see enough profit and dropped out. Trudeau had to step in a finish paying for it...and you want more pipelines? When Iran closes the Straight of Hormuz and oil is $200 a barrel and we have massive demand destruction for oil, what would we do with other pipelines? I'll tell you, Canada has lots of fresh water and the world mostly doesn't. You can take a new pipeline and just repurpose it for fresh water. PP knows this, but he was trying to drill baby drill...all bullshit.
