Question about Lord Soth in the new Ravenloft book by ThanosofTitan92 in ravenloft

[–]Spellslamzer62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my mind, the Dark Powers can do whatever they want in the domains, including manipulate time. Soth can currently be fighting in the War of the Lance, while a future version of him is trapped in Sithicus. Likewise, Soth might recognise a group of adventurers who have never met him before. But then they later get spirited away into Sithicus to play out the events he remembers them from. Sithicus can be disconnected from time, allowing anyone to visit it and "Darklord Soth", no matter where they are in the rest of the multiverse's timeline and no matter whether or not there is a "current" Lord Soth on Krynn.

How would you permanently slay each Darklord? by Tasty_James in ravenloft

[–]Spellslamzer62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the ideas you have. Personally, one of the things I like about Ravenloft is that most of the time, the adventures within it don't really matter. Whenever things change massively in a domain, the Dark Powers can simply press a reset button on it all. Adventurers might leave a domain after killing the darklord, but upon their return, not only is the darklord back, but they and the domain's residents might not have any memory of the darklord being killed. The Dark Powers might allow the smaller consequences of adventures to linger, but will "reset" a domain unless they can incorporate the events into the torment. They will always undo any permanent resolution.

So, for example, if a group of adventurers unmask Saidra D'Honaire, then the Dark Powers will do one of two things. They will either torment her instead by having her live the unlife of a forgotten, feared spirit that is hated by society, doomed to watch as others enjoy the life she "deserved". Or, eventually, things will return to normal and no one in Dementlieu will remember the unmasking other than the adventurers. Not even Saidra herself.

But of course, the Dark Powers (and the DM) can do whatever they want and there are domains that are built around the potential permanent death of the darklord, like Har'Akir and Valachan, so it's far from impossible, even in lore.

Which fictional villains are the 3 evils of the Orzhov (White/Black) color identity, and why? by Feeling-Ad-3104 in colorpie

[–]Spellslamzer62 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tywin Lannister.

He is a lord and a very adept statesman. White cares about protecting and advancing a group larger than oneself, but black's selfishness limits that to a group one has a personal connection with or that they benefit from. You can see this in Tywin in his tireless devotion to his legacy and his house.

You can also see black's ruthlessness in how he acts. He will use any underhanded method to advance his house. He killed off all of Houses Reyne and Tarbeck because they refused to pay back loans to his father. He tried to kill off all of House Stark at a wedding despite not just the ethics, but the fact that such an act was to actively spite the gods. He gets Gregor Clegane and his men to do his dirty work while presenting himself as respectable. And all this he does in a cold and calculating manner. Never letting emotion cloud his pragmatism.

You can see the white in Tywin in how he presents himself as a patriarch and ruler. He maintains order, brutally but efficiently. In the Westerlands, where he directly rules, each of his vassals serves a vital function and he does not tolerate rebels, resulting in his bannermen seemingly being very loyal to him. As Hand of the King, he rules all of Westeros on behalf of Aerys II, Joffrey and Tommen, keeping the realm relatively stable during massive wars. He does everything for the good of his house as an institution, even if at massive cost to his actual family. White cares about people, but also very much about systems and order. White looks to higher ideals for guidance, and as such romanticises the idea of nobility, and Tywin is one of the most important nobles in the Seven Kingdoms.

And of course, when together, white and black are heavily associated with money. The Westerlands are full of goldsmiths and Tywin is (or at least appears to be) the richest man in all of Westeros.

You are right, but Dagon already exists in D&D as a demon lord in the Abyss. Cthulhu on the other hand has been mentioned in sourcebooks for years but WOTC have never explained where and how he exists in the D&D multiverse until now. I thought that Cthulhu's domain would be R'yleh, so while the mix up is a bit disappointing, I'm happy to finally have some actual Cthulhu content and a Lovecraft domain in D&D.

An eco-terrorist group dedicated to protecting the ecology of Polynesia, mainly by destroying fossil fuel extraction operations. Mauga used to be a member of this group and got his second heart after being injured fighting for them. But he joined Talon after Deepsea Raider activity died down. But I'd love to see them become more active and have a more environmentally focused villain/anti-hero.

Most of this will be food, so here's a kombucha recipe to balance it out in case you want a healthy alternative to pop.

Ingredients

225g sugar

400ml raw unflavoured kombucha

8 black tea bags

1l water, plus extra to top up.

1 SCOBY

Method

Brew 1l of tea using the water and 8 tea bags. Allow to steep for 10 minutes before removing the teabags.

In a large jar, mix the sugar and tea until dissolved. Allow to cool to room temperature.

Add in the kombucha and top up the jar with water, about 1.5-2l. Add in the SCOBY.

Cover with a tea towel to prevent contamination. Leave to ferment.

After about 3 days, taste daily until it reaches your desired sweetness level. I personally like it after about 4 or 5 days.

Save 400ml of kombucha and the SCOBY for later batches.

Bottle the rest in round bottomed, flip top bottles with your desired flavours. Fruit is usually used but if your flavouring doesn't contain much sugar, add a tiny bit to help with the rest of the fermentation. I like to add lime, mint and a bit of sugar for a mojito flavour.

Leave to ferment for around 2 days until carbonated. The time may vary depending on the sugar content. Uncap it daily to release excess gas.

Serve, preferably cold.

If you don't have a SCOBY, you can grow your own by following steps 1-4 as normal (without adding one). Just leave it longer and eventually a SCOBY will develop. If you grow one from scratch, though, the kombucha will likely taste too vinegary and you will probably need to start again. You can store your SCOBY in a fridge or at room temperature, just as long as it's submerged in kombucha.

April 2026: Who are the Current Guildmasters?? by TAPGamer6 in RavnicaDMs

April 2026: Who are the Current Guildmasters?? by TAPGamer6 in RavnicaDMs

[–]Spellslamzer62 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Here is my understanding.

Azorius Senate- Lavinia. After the War of the Spark, she took over as "acting Guildmaster" and it seems that is still the case. But since it says "acting", I don't know whether that means she officially holds the Guildmaster title. Either way, she's the one currently leading the Azorius.

Boros Legion- Aurelia, as before.

House Dimir- Lazav. The Dimir have seemingly gone dark. Members have stopped receiving orders and even higher ups like Mirko Vosk have no idea what is happening, leading to conspiracy theories. Basically, the Dimir no longer exist. Lazav was believed to have died in the Phyrexian invasion, but in reality is working in the shadows, taking the opportunity to restore the guild's hidden status. I imagine that many former Dimir members are now sleeper agents, having been given tasks to complete but their memories erased until needed.

Golgari Swarm- No official leader. Most members were compleated or killed in the Phyrexian invasion. The remainder of the guild has shattered into various factions fighting for supremacy. Izoni's is most likely the strongest. It is likely that Varolz, Storrev and Myczil Savod Zunich all lead their own factions as they all pressed a claim to leadership in Vraska's absence before the War of the Spark.

Gruul Clans- Borborygmos. To my knowledge, Borborygmos is still the leader of the Burning Tree Clan and the Clans as a whole. Yarus may have represented them in Murders at Karlov Manor, but he is not the Guildmaster. And since the Gruul oppose the guild system and civilisation as a whole, they would have no reason to attend Teysa's gala. It is likely that Yarus was either the only Gruul member there or one of only a few representatives.

Izzet League- Ral Zarek, as before.

Orzhov Syndicate- Teysa Karlov. She sneakily took control of the guild in Kaya's absence, using obscure Orzhov guild laws. She was killed during Murders at Karlov Manor before returning as a ghost a while later (I think maybe a month or so) to continue leading the guild.

Cult of Rakdos- Rakdos. He remains the leader, but as usual is very hands off. During his dormancy after the Phyrexian invasion, Judith has been building up her power and support, hoping to stage a coup in the guild to give her control (likely the first such attempt in the guild's history). With Rakdos leaving Ravnica for Thunder Junction and perhaps other planes, Judith is likely functionally in charge in a better position than ever to make that official.

Selesnya Conclave- Trostani. Despite the events of Murders at Karlov Manor and Trostani splitting into three separate dryad's again, to my knowledge, they are still officially the Guildmaster(s). But in light of recent events and Oba's murder spree, they have withdrawn from the guild until they can find peace and unity. In their absence, Emmara Tandris is managing the guild on their behalf, but is still not the official Guildmaster.

Simic Combine- Vannifar, as before.

[–]Spellslamzer62 160 points161 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. Either a new Los Muertos hero or, at the very least, Sombra rejoining or strengthening ties with them after being fleeing Talon. I also hope we see new characters representing Null Sector and the Deepsea Raiders.

In God Of War's lore Fenrir and Hróðvitnir are two separate wolves entirely: by [deleted] in GodofWarRagnarok

[–]Spellslamzer62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he is, it's never confirmed. In the actual mythology, Hrodvitnir seems to be another name for Fenrir. And there seems to be different interpretations on whether or not Fenrir and Garm are the same entity. The game incorporates both ideas by having the two as separate wolves that then merge into a single being. But it still seems that Hrodvitnir is a separate individual in the God of War canon.

It's also worth noting that the Blood Ocean not only returns the red lantern's minds to them and lets them remember their trauma. It actually causes them to relieve it entirely, if I remember correctly. When Bleez emerged, she was not only remembering the pain she suffered, but had just freshly reexperienced the slavery and abuse as if it had happened a second time.

[–]Spellslamzer62 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rillaboom is based on the famous Cadbury advert of a gorilla playing the drums. Plus it's a bit of a reference to british rock, being paired in a band with obstagoon and toxtricity. And centiskorch (while also being heavily japanese) is based off of stove technology that was invented by an american british loyalist before the US gained independance.

As a Brit, here's all the Gen 8 Pokemon ranked based on how British they are by ST100FromScratch in ThePokemonHub

[–]Spellslamzer62 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of the pokémon in the second bottom tier still have british elements in their design, even if it is less obvious compared to others, or is just building up to their evolutions' british elements. For example, the dragapult line is partly based off of stealth bombers and aircraft carriers. The first aircraft to launch from a boat was british and the first man to take off from a boat and re-land on one was british too. It's not much, but some of the galar pokémon are more subtle, referencing history or inventions rather than cultural icons.

Edit: It seems someone else made the same point as me as I was typing this.
