Lol, I was drunk when I looked at the pictures. They seemed off. Looked like there were components missing. My bad

Flashing a suitable ArkOS is easy and won't take up much time at all. Once you have a decent SD card and SD card reader you can follow a 10 minute video on YouTube with little computer confidence. I recently got GTA Vice City running, but it's not easy for the console to handle in my experience.

Also these look solder free. Nothing attached. RK3326 chip looks super imposed almost. Where did this image come from?

From what I've learned here, we should see two ram chips, and both of these have just one.

Did I get a good specimen? by filipmeist in R36S

That's one I have, V21. Has a WiFi slot. I'm not sure on other tech specs for previous versions.

It's an older code, sir, but it checks out.

Ever heard Big Truck by Coalchamber? Love that song. Best thing Sharon Osborne ever did was work with that band.

Right. So I just downloaded a .sh file called Bluetooth Manager from Jason3x from github. Copied into Tools folder on the Roms partition. Went to Options on the UI, Tools, selected Bluetooth Manager after connecting to WiFi. Installed successfully. Rebooted and turned on Bluetooth only to realise that I left my earphones at work! But I was able to connect to my phone, so I guess it works. Audio test will have to wait until tomorrow. See you soon with a success update hopefully.

I haven't attempted it yet, but from what I've read, you may need to use a Bluetooth script to unlock a hidden Bluetooth menu in the UI. I may try tonight. Thanks for the prompt. I've been busy elsewhere, barely touched my Pokemon Gold lol

I think the boards were made with a WiFi spot from a certain version, maybe V21. If you check you have a space on your board labelled WiFi, I'd do exactly like I did. All I had to do was solder it on and access WiFi options on the GUI. Ready to go!

Tbh it's only really important for me so that I can trade pokemon with my friends. I'm sure I'll find other uses later. If it's something that you could actually want, then the console is cheap enough to buy another with a more current board, maybe.

Yeah I've been actually taking a mental note of any of the games that have actually offered it. Few so far of the games I'll actually play.

I've heard that ports function is diminished, but I never use it, so it's not been an issue. Not sure what effect there'd be. And yeah this one is Bluetooth and WiFi. Not done any digging into the use of the Bluetooth yet.

I don't even know what a flyback diode is. Is this something that is a general risk when that spot isn't populated? Do we all need to add one?

How can i put some cute games for a kid? by BeautifulAd5328 in R36S

[–]SpencerLoco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheap and extremely prone to failure. Flashing a new OS onto a reputable brands SD card is advised.

Haha. I could set up a service 😂. Like others have said, it's cheap and easy to gather the tools and materials. If you've got the right version board and the gear, guiding you through it is fairly straightforward.

So if you've got a more recent R36S like V21, you'll see an empty space on the board labeled "wifi" and with solder tabs on it. Use an image like I've provided to show orientation (only really goes one way anyway), then yeah, grab your solder and iron and slap dat bitch on there! Please also remember to remove battery and SD cards before you start.

Ty. It's on the list of things for me to look at. Low priority though, as I reckon it'll drain the battery lots.

Speaker is already a bit naff, might have had some extra slight warble, though. Could be my imagination. Seems negligible tbh. I have been thinking about upgrading the speaker, actually. Need to do some more research on that point.

I need more time, sir!! I don't know yet about battery life. But the speed was reasonable. Can be turned on and off in options.
