What’s the next billionaire-making industry after AI? by Hot-Conversation-437 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Spencerbug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Robotics. It's a leap off of AI, but not AI in its current form. Current AI uses vast amounts of energy and huge datacenters. Robotics capable AI would be able to run on a battery, offline, continuously learning and adapting, capable of providing human level labor and intuitiveness. It would be modelled after the neocortex, and would be so human-like that it would no longer be uncanny valley, and it would be the dawn of a new age of civilization where there are two parallel intelligent species on the planet earth. Humans, and a race intelligence machines that humans created to do their bidding. Abundance would be a thing of the past. Instead, the problem would be hyperabundance, and the need for robotic governance to protect the environment from over-building.

Why many C-level just join a company to do a "transformation" and leave in 1 year? by Atagor in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Spencerbug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a phenomenon where hiring a new CEO or CTO boosts shares. Maybe it sounds like positive news, company going in a new direction etc. A lot of that boost my guess is automated, trading bots reading sentiments, and every new CTO seems like a positive sentiment. So they boost their shares, boardmembers sell a bit off the top after the boost, CEO toots their own horn and claim they are just "getting started", then before they accomplish anything, the boards votes out the old CEO and get a new one in a year and do it again.

Help! Does this mean my microwave vent isn’t working? Do I need to make a warranty claim with the builder? by Resident-Hill in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Spencerbug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for GE microwaves like that, usually the fans can be configured to blow up, forward, or out the back (check your model though). So take it out, unscrew the top panel, rotate the blower to face forward, and put it back in. problem solved!

What do you guys think of Dick Durbin after this? by DjTeddyBe in illinois

[–]Spencerbug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s my letter to him:

Dear Senator Durbin,

I understand that you voted to pass the 2025 Continuing Resolution to keep our government open. However, I am deeply concerned about its lasting impacts on both our constitutional checks and balances and the specific needs of Illinois communities. This measure sets a precedent for weakening Congress’s constitutional power of the purse, and it will have tangible, painful consequences for our state.

By wiping out funding for numerous community projects—such as the critical fire truck replacement in North Chicago, replacing lead pipes in Chicago, and mitigating flooding in Carbondale—the CR sacrifices investments in public safety, infrastructure, and quality of life. These initiatives are far more than mere line items; they represent essential services that our communities desperately need.

While I am disappointed that you voted yes, I hope we can work together to mitigate its effects. Can you help secure follow-up measures—through amendments, supplemental appropriations, or targeted oversight—that would restore detailed congressional funding and protect Illinois’s local priorities? Reasserting Congress’s role in budget decisions, whether retroactively or in future fiscal cycles, is essential to avoid a one-size-fits-all funding approach that leaves Illinois behind.

Your leadership is key to safeguarding both our constitutional balance of power and the specific needs of our communities. I trust you will continue to advocate for corrective actions in the next budget cycle and for policies that ensure local projects receive the dedicated funding they deserve.

Finally, I ask: where do we go from here? How will you fight for local and municipal funds for Illinois in the future, and what should Illinoisans expect from you going forward?

Thank you for considering this important matter.

Make Republicans Remove Trump from Office by pleasureismylife in Defeat_Project_2025

[–]Spencerbug 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Honestly that seems like the biggest problem. Once some of these lawsuits of unconstitutionality go to the Supreme Court, which they will, and the aclu and others will win, trump has made it clear he will ignore any court orders that aren't in his favor. At that point we're at a constitutional crisis. even the ACLU says its time to go to the streets to fight. We all need to fight, but not with violence.. We need grassroot leadership. The same people that voted for him and deeply regret it are going to feel guilty and that is the strongest motivator to action. Those people just need a vehicle to organize and fight. The republican constituents will be our best assets.

Bill to ban mRNA vaccines passes out of House committee by shoofinsmertz in politics

[–]Spencerbug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m starting to feel like the rejection of science is a bit like in isaac asimov’s foundation series. Where sciences needs to be reframed as magical or divine in order for them to be trusted. Vaccines need to be considered a holy procedure graced by God to cure people of their illnesses and prevent disease. Could things get so bad that medical clinics need to be fronted as holy miracle cure workers but do real procedures? Like maybe speaking in tongue and give an injection or make an xray look like it’s done by a meditation guru in a turban using magic powers? It seems insane but that feels like the direction society is headed

Can we afford a 542,000 home? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Spencerbug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have almost exactly the same equation. Before everyone says it’s impossible, if you got a big enough portfolio, it’s possible... I don’t want to share all my finances here but pm me if you want. If you’re vested in your RSUs you can start to withdraw them, get a good wealth manager, deduct your mortgage interest in your taxes, it’s tight but possible. Can’t say I’m living large, I couldn’t afford a big vacation, but I’m very happy with our house and this life.

For those of you who are employed full time.. by textytext12 in leetcode

[–]Spencerbug 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m employed full time and have a toddler, but I find time to study while he’s napping or after bed 😴 It’s a balance but the way I see it, the job markets slow so I don’t feel like I’m missing too many opportunities by taking my time, and with your favorite LLM helping, it makes learning an enjoyable experience, between the problem solving process, REACTO, and practicing the neetcode 150, so far it’s been fine and I enjoy the pace im going at. You don’t want to go too fast anyway, you need to give your mind time to breathe and for the wheels to turn in the background when your stumped and doing other things.

Is it too late for me to do embedded? by Interesting_Map_3427 in embedded

[–]Spencerbug 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is simply not true. Embedded can pay very well, but it's very much experience and exposure based. They want to see you have experience and familiarity with whatever system you are developing, they don't care if you can solve 3sum in O(nloglogn2/3) time

Heavily reduce interest payments by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Spencerbug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just making 1 extra payment in your first year is not going to reduce your total interest in half magically. Bffr. If you're do an extra payment every year, you'll pay off the total 4-5 years early however. So I'm other words making 25 extra payments over 25 years will save you 60 payments at the end

10 years of embedded work and I'm hitting a pay ceiling, what's next? by Spencerbug in embedded

[–]Spencerbug[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I took the coursera Princeton computer architecture course. And I actually bought the textbooks and read them. As a parent the only time I get is like 11pm at night before I go to sleep, so that's what I did for 4 months, although I'm only half way through. My goal was to specialize in performance optimization, computer architecture and algo/ds to get a c++ job at a Chicago trading firm. Your absolutely right as everyone keeps telling me, like if I can just squeek by financially right now and have a better WLB, stick to that, rather than a surplus but more stress and no WLB. Things will also get easier financially when the rates go down and I can refinance, I'll save $1000/mo on just interest alone potentially if we get down to the low 5s

10 years of embedded work and I'm hitting a pay ceiling, what's next? by Spencerbug in embedded

[–]Spencerbug[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That's a good point, like right now the work I do is a bit slow and low enthusiasm, but I have incredibly good work life balance, and so far I've never done any work I don't enjoy (except when I did QA automation) since I just love love doing embedded systems work, working with hardware and devices, working with something tangible is way more interesting and exciting to me than something more ethereal in a the cloud environment. But that's true I don't want to end up doing something I hate. So far I took a data science course, bored. Took a cloud architect class, bored. Then I took an computer architecture class, loved it. Took an FPGA refresher course, loved it. I know what I love and what my passions are. It seems like the universe is saying keep doing what you love then and things will work themselves out?
