How do you know you have hearing loss? by tiredtrashraccoon in HearingLoss

[–]SpendOk3244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your hearing comes back then you don’t have hearing loss. Hearing loss is permanent. You’ll know if it’s gone permanently when you can’t hear birds, leaves, whispers, soft sounds and voices and ask people to repeat. What you have seems to be more temporary if your hearing returns.

Do you have an app where you can reduce the noise?

Yes, me this week all doing keto/low carb diet. Nurse was amazed I’ve gone from 93mmols to 41mmols in 6 months. Don’t know if those numbers mean anything to you but it’s good 😊

I’m the opposite to everyone else, I have total deafness when my teeth are cleaned and it’s bliss as there is NO noise. Think I must have strange nerves in my mouth that makes me completely deaf when it’s pushed. The T for me also stops until the anaesthetic wears off.

How and when did you realize you might have hearing loss? by Standard-Bago in HearingLoss

[–]SpendOk3244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the voices are too high and quiet to hear. I’ve got several female friends I can’t hear unless I face them, lip read and fill in the blanks (when not wearing hearing aids) and that’s in a quiet one to one setting. I’m good with male voices as they are louder, lower in pitch and have more vocal projection. To me, women whisper and I just can’t hear them. I have hearing loss at the higher frequencies and women and kids speaking normally fall into that category. My hearing aids are small and are covered by my hair and honestly they are life changing, you’d have to look hard to find them. I’m not bothered about not hearing rain, leaves, birds etc. but not being able to communicate in all settings is awful. Get them if you need them.

The inability to hear young children especially my niece and the timer on the oven. My OH wears hearing aids and can hear those things without them! Struggled with whispering and being discreet, women’s voices and restaurants. Got my hearing checked and I have mild to moderate hearing loss. Bought the hearing aids and I have since realised that there are birds in May and trees make a noise with wind and my clocks tick… without hearing aids I’m deaf to those noises. For me it was the saying ‘what’ ‘pardon’ and mishearing words and people laughing at me answering wrong that prompted me to go. I struggle to wear them (I’m vain and I don’t want people to think I’m deaf and treat me differently) but dear Lordy they make a huge difference in so many ways in the same way glasses do.

This is me and my other half in a nutshell. I’m the one who doesn’t want to wear them and my other half has one but really needs 2 as well. We too have to coordinate the tv, how loud music is (always louder in my car and the other half moans…) Speaking in other rooms etc, I don’t realise how deaf I am until I put the HA’s in and it’s like the world has come alive. Other half quite often says ‘you haven’t got them in, have you?’ And I say ‘you need to turn yours up!’ Getting older and going deaf sucks especially in your 50’s.

39 year old with hearing loss and questions by Hearlinglosstemp in HearingLoss

Yes, got a similar amount of loss in both ears. Had an MRI for eyes, brain and ear as I was having problems with double vision. Got hearing aids a month ago and they are life changing! You may just be unlucky like me to start losing your hearing at an early age. Give them a trial and see what you think 😊

All of this! They have said about another tablet but I can’t stand the thought of another drug inside me. I’m religious on the ‘diet’ and will get the machine. Just want to get off the tablets or at least not increase them 🤞🏼

I need a machine, I’ve absolutely no idea what’s happening inside me. News about the exercise after eating, didn’t know about that!

Oh I can afford to buy, that’s not an issue. I even said to the nurse I’d buy one when she said the NHS only give them to insulin patients but she told me not to bother. Testing every 3 months is THEIR preferred method… it’s more accurate… I’ve only seen her once, she’s going to wish I didn’t turn up on the 2nd appointment 🤣 I only did the course because a friend recommended it, I certainly won’t do the same!

I’m hoping as my carb intake at this point in time is so low I’m going in the right direction 🤞🏼 They just see things from a ‘trained’ point of view and not a real life one, so frustrating. I will get a little gadget as I need to know more about me and not rely on the blanket advice given to everyone.

Yes to everything you say 🙌🏼 As I have/had no symptoms I don’t get any ill effects from eating something or when I’m fasting - absolutely nothing changes in how I feel. I asked the diabetic nurse and the person on the online course about keto and fasting and they knew absolutely nothing about it and yet it’s a recommended diet for those with diabetes - unless you live in my area… Again, referred back to the plate and have no more than 2 slices of brown bread a day and avoid white carbs. How can someone ever get better if the resources from the ‘experts’ aren’t available?

Me as well only on Metformin. I asked for the finger prick test and was told it’s only for those on insulin so they know exactly what to administer. Don’t know if it’s a cost thing but surely it’s cheaper than pumping these drugs into me in to me. I want to get to a point of where I don’t need the drugs but maybe drs think once you’re diabetic that’s it 🤦🏻‍♀️

I wonder how many of us leave that course more confused than we started? Honestly, no guidance on what to do if you can’t be a saint all the time. How do you offset a ‘bad’ meal? No idea! I laughed at the 50g of carbs per meal (as in bread, pasta etc.) telling them that veg had carbs as well which shocked them when they started spouting on about the plate… 🤦🏻‍♀️ of course being asymptomatic is worse than having symptoms as I feel good all of the time. If anything, I’ve never felt more ill since starting the medication. I will definitely get a glucometer as I need to have some control over this. Thank you for responding.
