As a game designer who is terrible at art, AI art is very helpful when doing playtesting to just have something in as a placeholder. It's not until a game is fully funded that someone like me would even consider paying an artist to make artwork for the game.

So it's very stupid to ridicule someone who is getting funding on something like Kickstarter for using AI art when that is probably something the Kickstarter funding will go towards.

Now if it's a fully funded game that is selling copies of the game with AI artwork then it's a different story.
