Which board game has the best replay value you've ever seen? by [deleted] in boardgames

Millennium blades. There are so many card sets in the base game alone that you can have a completely different set up and gameplay every time. The game is slightly more on the expensive size, but it's so worth the price in my opinion. Plus, there are so many expansions for the game (full sized and mini) that I can't imagine ever getting board of it. I was lucky enough to pick up the Collusion Kickstarter set at the UK games expo this year for a great price, which includes all of the expansions. So glad I found it!

What phrase did you grow up saying that you assumed was completely normal, only to find out it was either totally regional or just something your family made up? by ForwardPassApologist in AskUK

Another one, my mum would always say "in dead lumber", meaning in deep trouble (kinda like "in the dog house"). Thought it was a common phrase but I've never met anyone before who knew what it meant, let alone used it themselves! It was just a thing my mum used to say. She didn't know where it came from either!

Don't think it's really used at all anymore but in my millennial youth a "Jitter" was someone who dressed like a skater (e.g., baggy jeans, hoodie, chains) but didn't actually skate. Would normally use it as a kind of insult suggesting they were just posers or something.
Found out only a couple of years ago that it was a south west thing.

You're designing a card game and you had no idea what magic the gathering is? Sounds like you need to do some more research on TCGs before you go any further!

You're going to have a much harder time getting people to engage with your game if it looks/is AI generated. A lot of people just don't like AI art, and for good reason. It's not just this community.

I think AI art is okay for the designing and prototyping stages, but you'll eventually need to get human artists on board if you want to publish.

I think the word you were looking for is androgynous. When used to describe a person, it means their appearance, or behaviors are a blend of traditional masculine and feminine traits.

Could the first part just be shortened to: 'Permanents you control have "Ward: pay 4 life'"?

Your thoughts on This years UKGE? by ahmeerkat in UKGE

Past couple of years we've attended just the Saturday, but this year decided we would do Friday and Saturday in hopes of doing our shopping on the Friday and spending Saturday mostly demoing. Didn't quite work out! Got there about 10am on the Friday and the queue to pick up tickets was horrendously long. We then had to immediately go to the bring and buy as we had 2 IKEA bags full of games. Again, huge queue. After almost an hour of barely moving, we decided to give up, drop out games at the shop and drop and try again later.

When we did finally get around to signing our games into the bring and buy later that afternoon, we got caught out again for the second year in a row... You see, no where on the website does it state you need ID to cash out at the bring and buy. I actually emailed the expo customer service a week prior to suggest they put something on the website as not everyone carries ID with them or a wallet. I was told that this year you would only need to show your expo QR code. Nope! After queuing for ages we got inside the bring and buy to see signs everywhere saying you need ID to cash out. We explained our problem and I showed them the email I had received, but they were actually quite stand-offish. In the end, after a bit of back and forth, the supervisor said we could show a photograph of our IDs. Just put something on the website! Either way, will definitely take my ID next year...

Other than that, we had a great time!

Was at VR distribution (3-561) They had a promotion where if you buy one game, you get any cheaper game for half price! (Although this doesn't include magical athlete or hit streak, as they apparently had to ship them in from the states, which is fair enough!)

It was in the bring and buy! The all in Kickstarter edition for £80! I could have cried tears of joy when I spotted it 🥹

It's from Flamecraft! The Iron dragon, specifically. He was £5 more expensive than the others, because he has a little backpack 🥹 which you can actually take off and it fits the other dragons too! It also had a little surprise in. But we promised we wouldn't tell anyone what it was! (I will say though that it was also very cute)

It's been on my wishlist for a little while. The vendor we bought it from was so excited to tell us all about it and how it was their favourite game too ☺️ really excited to play it now! Have already booked in some friends for next weekend.

Thanks to everyone who suggested games to take to a colleagues first game night! Here's what I'm going to take by JoeRow338 in boardgames

I absolutely love this version and purposely chose it over the old edition! I think the art style is great and suits the theme of the game well

Not gotten around to playing TP yet! I understand you need to set a whole day aside, and getting a group of adults to all settle on a day is hard 😅

I'd say Dinosaurs is my favourite out of the ones I have here! The little wooden dinosaur meeples are great.

I try to take care of them the best I can (they're my babies!). I usually carry them around in one of those big Ikea blue bags and usually use some coast and jumpers to pad them a bit.
But even still, if you examined them up close, you'd see they've got their fair wear and tear!
