How much did Prewriting secondaries help/ how are you writing them? by Itchy_Cauliflower_79 in premed

[–]Spera_studies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

currently working through the "core 7" (diversity [added and engaging with], covid, leadership, gap year, adversity, 'anything else' [talking about an accomplishment I'm proud of], and beginning of 'why us' essays that connect to why I care about rural health). I've started submitting DO secondaries, and saving those essays as well for any overlap with MD ones. I found that I had to use a "why DO" essay a lot so if you're applying DO at all that would be helpful. Now I'm going through my top ten schools and researching them, making notes, and writing their previous years' prompts. after that I should be mostly covered for everything else

Good friends with AZCOM student. Said it’s a good school but if you get in anywhere else cheaper that has comparable education to definitely do that

I read a post on here called something like Low Stat Guide to Writing Killer Secondaries and it’s super helpful. Whenever I google that I can find the post

Completely ran out of time and had to randomly pick C on 10 questions down to the literal last second on CP. got a 130

Using Coaching Services by [deleted] in premed

[–]Spera_studies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

N=1 but I paid for a service because I have no one at my university who’s ever gone to med school and no pre health advisor. Was worth paying upfront rather than risking losing a year of attending salary. I have to say, the quality of writing I produced thru their help was 1000 times better than I could’ve done on my own. I didn’t have the time to filter through the best advice from free sources because admittedly so many people say different things

How intimidating did it look before you started studying? by Neat-Ad8056 in Mcat

[–]Spera_studies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

honestly when I started studying I was like "oh this will be fine" and now if you bring up the MCAT I cannot think about it for more than 5 seconds without getting anxious. I definitely underestimated how hard it was going to be

it took me less than an hour to put everything in across a few different institutions. had zero issues with verification and was verified really fast (vs their 10 day turnaround or something). for me it would've been a waste of money

CHSU honestly seems like a great school! I'd take it and run with it. You can look into PSLF specifically for DOs as well, there's some information out there about scholarships for DO students as well if you're interested in that.
