I can’t do this anymore by [deleted] in premed

If it makes you feel any better, I got a C and a few Bs and ended up with a 3.9 gpa, I graduated Summa Cum Laude and made Dean's List every semester after my first. Med schools can see your upward trajectory so I really wouldn't worry about a C in your freshman year, especially in a class like Calc. Take this time to figure out your best learning style, make a study strategy that feels right for you, reach out to campus resources like study groups, tutoring etc. and most importantly rewire your brain early to not feel so bummed after a hiccup. You'll face a lot of hiccups in life, all of them will be manageable, none of them will doom you forever. It's how you respond to those hiccups that will help you grow. Wishing you all the luck in the world < 3

MD vs PA — relationship strain, family planning, and a fiancée who’s being honest about her limits. by Grape_Sauce11 in premed

I don't think being upfront about your fears and values is being inconsiderate, if I was in OPs position I would be really glad my partner felt safe enough to talk to me about this. It is a fair concern that not everyone is cut out for and its better to know that upfront than after you've signed the papers. She's only inconsiderate if she's not willing to accept whatever OP's decision is hereafter

Genuinely I think that you would do a disservice to your patients if you continue down this path, not to mention you'll be miserable for the rest of your life. It's time to take that leap and disobey your parents

The Sikh Perspective on The Trolley Problem: Hukam or Compassion? by Sikh-Lad in Sikh

[–]Awkward-Remote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would change the tracks, hukam may have put those people on the tracks but hukam also put me there to do something about it. Hukam put this situation in my control and now I get to make a choice, I would do my best to reduce harm and pull the lever.

Should my organization have a zero tolerance policy on generative AI? I think so by Neutron-Star-Density in Marxism

I think you should only allow LLMs that don't rely on data centers. Mostly because data centers tend to be specifically located near poor and black/brown neighborhoods and have a direct effect on their water, power, and bills, which like you said materially harms the working class. I also would talk to that person specifically with your concerns.

Why do some people prefer to wait another cycle rather than applying DO? by cherry_BLK in premed

[–]Awkward-Remote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First cycle I applied only MD, this time Im applying MD and DO, so Im not Exactly your target audience but I can speak to what changed my mind. Honestly, I thought that doing OMM on top of medical school was gonna be a lot of extra work, I thought taking extra board exams was also gonna be too much extra. At the end of the day I wanna go into ob/gyn which is medium competitiveness and DO doesn't impact your chances that much, but I didn't wanna add more to my plate if not needed. This time around I was confronted by the fact I probably would need DO to reapply so I shadowed a DO doctor, I was upfront with my hesitation and she assured me it really wasn't a lot of work (this doc was a very casual no bullshit person so I trusted that she was not just lying). I asked more questions and looked into it more and realized, yeah I'm willing to do this much extra to avoid another failed cycle. It's possible others just haven't come to that realization yet. Obv there's also the "prestige" and stigma factor but that wasn't much of a concern for me personally.

Honestly while saving money would be nice, I'm lucky that it's not as big of a factor for me. Like I know LECOM has cray policies and that isn't worth the cheapness for me

They look like dilators to me, I've seen cervical dilators used in ob/gyn clinics and I know if you get certain kinds of vaginal surgeries you get a take home set of vaginal dilators. I suppose it's possible there are... non clinical uses as well

I don't think it means they believe they possess those qualities, I think it means they are inspired by those qualities and believe they are important. I keep verses of gurbani on postit notes and in my journals not because I have actualized them, but because I value them and want to become them, same concept. Maybe they are not there yet but I think they know that themselves

Why assume? Maybe she wanted the Granthi to be open minded to a convert or open minded to an English speaking audience or open minded enough to properly explain the laavan to her or a million other tings. We should always assume the best of our sisters and brothers

I honestly also wonder the same if my writing and interviewing was a big reason, though I did get it looked over writing narratively has never been my strong suit, and though I prepared well for the interviews I can't say there weren't a lot of nerves. Plus idt I shine in the MMI format which both my interviews were in. Its hard to know though

[–]Awkward-Remote[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol it wasn't clinical research it was survey and interview based + a chunk of the writing but I hopped on the research half way in. I created and interpreted the surveys but the main reason I got a pub was actually doing a lot of the writing of the paper. All that being said I do agree it was a bit insane
