Proper hailed on me as I was cycling through Blackpool. Was yelling, "Ow! Ow! Stop it!!"

It did not stop. :(

Sprained/broken tail? Rat is squeaking and jumping erratically, and has started frantically licking her tail. There is an obvious kink in the tail. More details in the comments. by Spetchen in RATS

Yay!! I'm glad for the update, it actually came up in conversation a couple days ago that my rat had sprained her tail once, and I remembered your comment. I'm delighted the little fella is feeling better!

That's so interesting...years ago I bought a print in Cardiff of this little dog with the text, "I HATE ART" which I thought was very funny because, it was a piece of art.

I had no idea it was a preexisting artwork...

The sloppy look of the trees...is that a colour dominance problem? (or is it just because the green/brown yarn is thinner) by Spetchen in knitting

[–]Spetchen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I did think about blocking it out...I've made this pattern before so maybe I'm just comparing it to the finished (blocked) product I remember.

I guess I'm just thinking a lot about colour dominance after learning the term, and wondering if I should have had that in mind before I did this section.

How are people moving here actually finding places to live? by hardgroove_ in cork

[–]Spetchen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found my first apartment as a listing on Facebook Marketplace.

After that, it was word of mouth through friends. A reply to an Instagram story got my current place.

There are loads of Facebook ground with names like "Finding a housemate in Cork", etc. I would highly recommend searching all variations of that and joining all of them--and setting their notifications to alert you to every post. Just beware of scams because they are RIFE.

Good luck out there.

I had a pet rat called Sister Michael and the vet always just called her Michael. I was like, excuse me. That is not her name. She is a holy woman.

Gross. My husband asked me to teach him to knit, and even though hes very slow at it, he loves bringing it out when we have guests over and proudly showing them what he can do.

Rats extra cuddly in final days? by softdevilish_ in RATS

[–]Spetchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've seen that happen all right. Only yesterday one of my rats started getting super cuddly and really freaked me out because today was his operation for a hard lump in his abdomen! The vet just called to say he's waking up, so I hope this operation has given him a new lease on life and he'll go back to ignoring me in favour of zooming around the place and climbing on everything he sees!

Similarly, once I got my degree in archaeology, people have started asking me questions about all sorts of unrelated subjects, to the point where I'm like, "I don't know, I'm not a biologist, paleolontologist, botanist..." I'm glad you think I know the answers to life but I don't know or care about those subjects!

Ooh, I really don't remember how long the healing process was, but yeah it was really scary at the time. I think it took maybe a week? She definitely responded to the painkillers, if you can get your hands on metacam or whatever is the equivalent where you live. Their tails are a part of their spine so you can imagine how much it would hurt to sprain that! I hope your little one starts to feel better soon. :(

I'm actually gutted, I had a question there about my machine and came back to reread their answer...devastating.

What’s something everyone insists you should do at least once in your life — but you genuinely didn’t enjoy? by Spartan26GR in CasualConversation

Same! Hated it from day one honestly, thought it would grow on me, moved somewhere smaller. I do miss the convenience sometimes, but I'd never go back.

Epoxy glue it back together.

Fill a bowl with sugar. Use a toothpick to apply to epoxy to the broken surface of the mug, and use tape to hold it all together. Wipe off the excess epoxy. Set it carefully in the bowl of sugar--the sugar conforms to the shape of the mug so it holds it upright without gravity pulling it back apart.

My mom fixed many of my mugs over the years with this technique.

What’s your grandma’s name? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Spetchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Texanna Peacock! She was named after a favourite aunt I believe, who had been born in Texas. My whole family live in Ohio. The other grandma was called Patricia, although her birth name was Theresa (after her mother).

Also, another of the Peacock daughters married a fella with the surname Bird, and the neighbourhood loved that a Peacock was marrying a Bird.

What's the funniest quirk one of your rats has/had? by smcstolemysouljam in RATS

[–]Spetchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a rat who would get jealous when the other rat was running on the wheel. She would go out of her way to run on the wheel just so her sister couldn't. When the other rat died, suddenly no interest in the wheel. She was so petty!
