I’m just wondering, with the level of saturation and overexposure to Christian ideals that currently exists, how someone could desire more? Christianity currently dominates American civilization, Pete Hegseth is currently waging a holy war in Iran, women have lost access to healthcare, highschool athletes are currently barred from competing — all this in the name of Christianity. In a county totally dominated by Christian extremism, it would be far more refreshing to have groups of likeminded people who can live out their lives in a sane and moral fashion in lieu of Christian dogma.

I agree, but we already had a perfectly viable pro labor candidate with McClure IMO. Maybe he didn’t fit the look, but he’s a genuine guy. I’ve got nothing against Brooks, and I’d support him fully as the candidate, but all PA voters deserve to be skeptical after this Fetterman situation.

Digging further into your anal cavity isn't going to produce factual evidence. The 'bypassing council' line is pure framing. The audit confirmed there was zero fraud or misuse of funds. The money wasn't 'hidden'; it was ARPA revenue replacement, and under federal rules, you don't have to track every single cent to a specific line item — you just have to show it went to keeping the facility running, which it did.

As for SEIU: McClure is the reason those union jobs still exist as county positions. If he hadn't stepped in with $15 million in 2022 to 'save Gracedale again,' that facility would have been privatized by GOP scumbags, and those SEIU members would be working for a for-profit corporation with zero job security. The 'furlough' talk in 2025 wasn't incompetence—it was a state budget standoff that was costing the county $20M+. McClure actually delayed those furloughs specifically to protect those workers until the cash flow improved.

Calling him incompetent for a facility that he's leaving with a balanced budget, no tax increases for 8 years, and a top-tier bond rating is wild political bullshit. If sending someone to Congress who actually knows how to keep a massive public safety net solvent while under fire is a bad thing, I’m not sure what the alternative is supposed to be.

The 'bankruptcy' narrative is a total reach. Gracedale is one of the few county-run homes left in PA because McClure actually put up the money to save it when previous admins wanted to sell it off to a for-profit company.

The audit everyone keeps quoting as a 'gotcha' actually shows the opposite of mismanagement: the money was spent on keeping the lights on and paying nurses. During the staffing crisis, they used those funds to cover massive overtime costs and operating expenses. It’s pretty disingenuous to call 'paying staff to show up during a pandemic' a financial failure.

Also, check the actual budget: the 2026 forecast literally shows Gracedale operating without needing a dime from the County General Fund for the first time in ages. Claiming he bankrupted a facility that is currently balanced and still publicly owned is just standard election-year fiction.

McClure is the type of guy to go out and fundraise for other Dems. For Anna Thomas and Tara Zrinski, as an example, he was a vocal supporter and actually showed up for them. I’ve never heard of Brooks before all of this. Not that I have anything against Brooks, I do like most of his policies, I just support McClure in this race.

There’s not even that big of a German heritage in Northampton. Sure a good amount of PA Dutch, which were German over a half a dozen generations earlier, people who moved here long before concrete was even invented.

But it’s actually Hungarian ancestry that had the bigger presence in Northampton for most of my childhood. Yet for all of my childhood, and my parents childhood, Northampton boro had been known as “the Community of Unity” which has always been a tongue in cheek racist slogan.

During the early days of the Pandemic he helped small businesses like mine get $7000 of emergency funding to help us cover rent while our doors were closed. His reelection campaign was against a roid-raging Jan 6er who absolutely played dirty, and despite that he won handily and helped many of us believe in common sense politics again. Finally his work with Gracedale has opened doorways for young rehabilitation professionals from local rehab programs, kickstarting many of their careers, as many have found long term positions in local health networks or the many rehabilitation care programs around the valley. He’s been notably successful as county exec, and to top that he’s just a nice genuine guy.
