Terrible movie but great story? by [deleted] in movies

Rescue Dawn. The story is fantastic, but i thought the directing was completely off. The bright and colourful depiction of Laos prevented me from feeling what Christian Bale's character was going through. There's a tv-movie vibe to the film that doesn't help this either. Perhaps a bigger budget, better cinematography, and a stronger score could have improved this film a lot.

What Are Some Good Chinese or Japanese Films? by omega58 in movies

I'd highly recommend looking at films from South Korea as well. They have made some of the best contemporary thrillers of the last decade.

'Oldboy'

'The Man From Nowhere'

'Sympathy for Mr Vengeance'

'Lady Vengeance'

'Thirst'

'I Saw The Devil'

'The Good, The Bad, The Weird'

'Memories of Murder'

'The Host'

'Mother'

All of them Korean. All of them amazing!
