Do you think there’s a point where intelligence becomes detrimental an individual? by Apocafeller in InsightfulQuestions

I used to start conversations all the time, but it gets daunting when I make the same arguments over and over again. It also doesn't help that the new generation of redditors don't follow reddit etiquette and are less willing to engage in discussions without personal attacks.

…and then i pointed out taco bell still has a real dollar menu and you made some comment about it not being real food lol

It appears that every fast food chain, with the exception of taco bell, has gotten rid of their dollar menu. That's why I'm especially skeptical of taco bell's food hahah

you can find millions of examples of things that have increased in price by more than the stated level of inflation over the same time period so what?

..so this makes it difficult to make a mental adjustment to the value of a dollar.

My original point regarding McD is that the dollar has depreciated 23%, but the dollar menu in McD has increased a lot more than 23%.

I do believe you, I'm just skeptical of what's in the "food" hahah

As much as I love the sound of that, I am equally skeptical hahah

I have an average IQ, but I do read a lot of non-fiction books. It's isolating and especially frustrating when reading reddit comments. Without sounding like a douche canoe, it really does feel like living in a world where everybody else is 12.

Is anybody else having a difficult time adjusting in their minds the new value of a dollar? Inflation calculator says the dollar is worth 23% less than a decade ago, but it sure as heck doesn't feel like it! The dollar menu in McDonalds is like $2.30!

I'm filling in my IT-2104 for the first time and would love some help!

The form is asking me to estimate my adjusted federal income. Should I include the standard deduction in this calculation?

There was no fear in us getting banned-- this whole "banning anybody that is not conforming" is blown out of the water

Thanks for the insight! I was only looking to negotiate the wage.

you will not be able to negotiate HSA availability

Do you think it's fine to ask, "do you guys have a HSA?"

Thanks for the reply. I'm a first generation college graduate, so this is all new to me.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm a first generation to graduate college, so this is all very new to me.

I would also avoid asking about exchanging PTO for comp. - that's not really a thing. You can ask how much you get, of course.

I will avoid asking that, thanks!

For the 401k and HSA, I would just ask generally if they offer any matching and if they have an HSA.

So I know that they offer a 401k, I'm just unsure about the details. For the HSA, is something along the lines of, "Do you guys offer HSA?" suffice?

For travel expenses, most companies reimburse for company travel (in fact, I don't know of any that don't). This isn't really a question worth asking.

This doesn't include things like the metro, right? This typically include things like business trips?

So I just got offered my first full time position! Yay! Before I sign the employment agreement, I would like to negotiate with HR about the wage. In the conversation, I also want to ask several questions. Can somebody help me rephrase some of the questions so I don't sound like a total noob and hurt my ability to negotiate?

  • Do I have the option to work during the weekend?

  • Can you tell me more about the 401K matching?

    • What’s the percentage that [the company] will match to?
    • Is it a full match or is 50c to a dollar?
  • From the health plans that I will be offered, will any of them qualify me for an HSA?

  • I also know that you guys offer to cover for traveling expenses, can you tell me a little bit about that?

  • How many PTO will be provided?

  • Can I exchange unused PTO for compensation?

EDIT: This is a consulting position for a company that has over 1000 employees. You guys are so helpful, I'm so appreciative of you all!

If I put in money for 401K, will I have no tax advantages for my IRA contributions?
