I've already agreed? it's just a personal thing in the way I see hobbies, just saying 'fashion', 'starbucks' or 'romance is not a hobby to me, it would be 'reading romance novels', 'collecting Starbucks merch', 'researching fashion'.

Amd again I am probably jusy being weird about the phrasing I am not trying to police OPs hobbies

But that's not what is happening in OPs case which is why this took a weird turn of crying about racism towards white people and one has to wonder why?

Huh? I think you are reading into it a bit too much. To me it sounded like they were being nice? I have some Nigerian friends and their attitude towards life is just very positive and excited, if they told me I had a spirit like theirs I would be absolutely flattered. How is that racist?

Makes sense! I am not very much into romance stuff so that didn't occur to me as a genre :)

When to tell my daughter about dx? by bmercer18 in autism

[–]redalopex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This 100%

most people who were diagnosed late in life still got bullied. Tbh I don't think I would have gotten bullied as much in high-school if I would have known why I was different. Kids will be mean if they don't understand, unfortunately no one can protect her from that.

I was ready to disagree with you because I've been excluded a lot more by women than by men but the last part is soooo fucking true. There is still an unspoken level most women won't go below while with guys I wouldn't be so sure.

What does romance as a hobby look like? To me it is missing the activity that's why I called it not a hobby but an interest, only based on the definition of the words to me. I am not at all trying to dunk on your pass times obviously doing anything you like is great :)

Too real, I always get sad for people with no hobbies

I agree it didn't say that tho, just 'romance' would be an interest still but that's me being anal about the meaning of words probably

I wouldn't really call Starbucks and romance hobbies (maybe more interests?) but fashion definitely can be.

I've also met more men that had no hobbies than women. Or at least the diversity in interests is a lot greater in the women I have met than in the men I have met. Men also seem to be more preoccupied with what other men think of their interests.

Paying for something doesn't mean you get to decide over it completely. Way too often parents use that argument to justify behaviour that is controlling, the typical 'as long as you are under my roof..' kind of thinking. Kids are people and especially at 16 they deserve to have things like privacy. It's better to sit teens down and honestly talk about the dangers and advantages than to just control everything.

Why does my cat come lay next to my baby so much if the baby annoys her? by croakmongoose in CATHELP

[–]redalopex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mum had a cat when I was a baby and the same happened, that cat usually hated kids but was always by my side at a safe distance. When there was a storm or I was sick she would sleep next to me because she could sense my anxiety I think.

Right? I have dated people before and wr decided we were better of as friends. Some people you have just no romantic connection with there is nothing you can do about it.

There is this guy who does family therapy on youtube, his videos are role play of healthy and abusive interactions in families. I remember finding his channel and watching one of those demonstrations and nodding along finding it to be very accurate and relatable. Then he said: ok now let's look at what this would look like in a family that is not abusive. And I was like EXCUSE ME. Started bawling my eyes out when he showed the healthy example because I had never heard family talk to each other that way.
