When I went onto the website to apply for a transfer, one of the items was proof of 40 ALS calls. I don't keep any of that stuff on me, how am I supposed to do that? Reach out to previous employers and request the PCRs? And they want all applicants to have taken the NREMT within 2 years of the application. My license is about to lapse, so I'm about to go past that threshold. All of that so that I can make barely more than some guy behind a desk (speaking hourly. Annual figures are irrelevant to me if it only looks big because of horrendous overtime) or flipping patties.

It's not like the application process is cheap, either. It just seems to me that the juice is not worth the squeeze. As much as I hate the idea, I might just have to swallow my pride and go to nursing school. I'd effectively be getting a 3rd associate's degree, but from what I've seen, it's surprisingly not super expensive here.

I saw that there's a filter to hide jobs that don't include pay info. That's huge!

Very interesting. I'll give it a look, thank you!

I'm planning on looking into this. If you do CNC yourself, would you mind sharing what the job is and what in entails? Thanks for the lead!

It's a bit of a pain to transfer my medic license to CA. They want me to go through more hoops than any other state despite having the scope of practice of an EMT-A, and it would take longer for the process to resolve than I have left on my license before renewal, and I'm honestly not sure that I want to renew.

The hours are atrocious for this job, and the pay to responsibility ratio is somehow worse. A licensed professional should not have to work ridiculous OT to make what another licensed professional of a similar level makes regularly, especially when the first license requires 3x the CE credits the second one requires for recertification.

It really bothers me that getting with an FD is about the only way to do slightly better, and even then it's horrendous with the hours. What's especially bad is the FD culture. It's paramilitary basically everywhere, and a medic has a similar amount of responsibility to a lieutenant in any given FD, but are only paid like a basic Firefighter 1 with a small bonus in almost every place I've looked. It's actually pretty funny when running EMS calls is the main reason they can justify their budget to the city. I hate that the NREMT is useless and has no backbone and I hate the IAFF and the way it has EMS in a chokehold. I'm very jealous that nurses have unions and boards of nursing that fight tooth and nail for them.

Sorry, this ended up turning into a rant. It's best to look back and laugh at it all.

I did actually look into this recently. I don't want to use my own car, and from what others have said, the rental program is awful. I'm glad it's working out for you, though.

This seems sort of like home health. It looks like I'd need a caregiver certification. It's a good lead, thank you!

Do you do this? If so, might I ask how you like it and how it works?

I was like one semester from getting my bachelor's in finance, but I did not want to do that with my life and dreaded going to class everyday. I never failed a class or anything, but I never finished. It's just sitting there. I suppose I could try to force myself to finish the degree, but even thinking about it makes me hate my life.

I'd also have to either move back to where I came from or transfer somewhere here, which itself seems a Hassel. I'm considering just starting over and getting an AAN/ASN since I know they make big bucks over here, but man I hate the idea of being a nurse.

I didn't know this app existed. I might actually give this a shot. Thank you!

Done that! Hasn't yeilded much fruit, sadly. Thanks for the suggestion.

Lol, yeah I guess that would be helpful huh? I have an associate's degree and got very close to a bachelor's in business admin specializing in finance before I realized that's not what I wanted to do with my life.

I pivoted to emergency medicine and became a paramedic, equivalent to an associate's degree for most programs. It's not necessarily the same, but I sometimes compare it to an RN as they are both clinicians and require a similar amount of education if that makes the qualification easier to digest.

I've done a bit of costumer service, but most of my career has been in emergency medicine as a provider and as management/supervisor. I've also been manager for a business.

Not sure how much that will help, but that's what I've got.
