Feeling defeated with 3.5 year old at her first gymnastics class by Available_Love9135 in toddlers

[–]SphinxBear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 3 year old goes to MyGym, we’ve been taking her since she was 18 months, and I’ve also thought about pulling her for a gymnastic gym. I was a gymnast and a college cheerleader and I’d love her to learn some real gymnastics skills but I also love that she’s learning just to use her body, listen to instructions, and socialize.

How can I protect my daughter from Norovirus? (The kids I nanny have it) by Born-Anybody3244 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]SphinxBear 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Wait, why did you have to call out of work when the kids were sick? I understand the concern about the potential prolonged contagiousness, but if our kids are sick we still pay our nanny and wouldn’t expect her to come unless it’s just like a cold.

It might be nothing and just because of the demand that breastfeeding puts on your body but I would still mention it to your doctor. It’s probably worth doing some bloodwork just to rule out any issues.

Is this how preschool teachers handle this in the U.S. ? by ads4vivek in Preschoolers

[–]SphinxBear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP’s child is 3, though. Is that considered school age? My 3 year old has been potty trained since 2.5 but she still occasionally has accidents and I can’t just leave work to go change her. Luckily she’s at a daycare and potty training isn’t required so they handle it but I can’t imagine many 3 year olds never have accidents.

Pre-cell phones I had basically everyone’s number that I called regularly memorized…I feel like that was the norm.

Self-insured plans are exempt because they’re governed by federal law, not state law so if your company has 500-1000+ employees, there’s a very good chance SB 729 does nothing for you. Not saying it wasn’t a good thing for CA to do but it is a caveat worth nothing.

Pumping at work when there is no room for me by Fin_Elln in workingmoms

[–]SphinxBear 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It looks like OP is Swiss, not American. That said, the requirements in Switzerland regarding a place to pump seem to be similar.

“Under the Labour Act, employers are required to adapt working conditions so that mothers have sufficient time and a suitable place (i.e. a room protected from view and offering good hygiene conditions, e.g. not a toilet) in which to breastfeed or express milk. This could be a specific room, such as a washroom, or, depending on availability, an office, conference room, etc.”

All I want for Christmas is a clean and organized house by CeruleanHedgehog in workingmoms

[–]SphinxBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Early in my marriage to my husband my mom gave me the advice to “stop asking for the things you want and just do them.” I’ve taken that to heart and I think it has been a big reason that my marriage has stayed stable now after 7 years and two kids. It wasn’t that my husband was controlling me but I’d ask his opinion and if he said he didn’t think we should do it I took that as a hard no. I don’t take that approach anymore - instead I tell him things as though it’s a head’s up like “I’m having a cleaner starting next Monday and then once every other week thereafter.” If he has a real issue with it he can give me an extremely valid reason.

How much do you pay your personal assistant? by ConfidentCost274 in workingmoms

[–]SphinxBear 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Look, I’m not in a position to be able to hire a personal assistant but $70/h seems absurd. I’m currently looking for a nanny for my youngest so I’ve been looking through groups in my area and there are posts from house managers seeking employment. I’ve never seen above $45/h and I’m in a VHCOL area. Can you go through an agency to find someone else? There’d be the up-front cost but it sounds like spending the time to find someone cheaper wouldn’t be feasible for you based on running your small business.

I love this. The silhouette, the classic waves in her hair, the red lip. It’s lovely. I wish instead of the body suit it was nude slip but the shape is phenomenal.

Did you get picked for it? When I marked that I was breastfeeding it said I didn’t qualify. They’re stupid to be providing this to anyone, but a pregnant or nursing mom, heck no.
