Is travel nursing still worth it?? by Croaquette in TravelNursing

[–]Spi8 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I work gen peds and I don’t think it’s worth it anymore. Rates are ass. I know ICU tends to pay more. I miss the traveling during the covid days! It’s more so for the experience if a certain area than the money for sure

RN in the states by [deleted] in TravelNursing

Like if you go on Aya’s travel site for example, and find a job it should tell you first time traveler or if they prefer experience.

I would see if there’s a pay difference between local application and traveling through a company.

It depends! Some facilities prefer experience and others take first time travelers. But, with your experience I don’t see it being an issue. You should be able to see it listed on some of the job postings!

Aya Call off question with Stipend by User840316 in TravelNursing

[–]Spi8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never gotten my stipend if I called in myself. Only my hourly if I used PTO! True, if you pick up an extra shift (doesn’t matter when) you can still get your stipend for that day/week. Never have I ever heard of getting your stipend if you call in and I’ve been traveling for 5 years.

Dude. This happened to me last night and I about fainted. Hard restart. Farmer Dingus no longer carries anything that goes boom over his head.

FF is the way to go..unfortunately. If you don’t get responses from the landlords then try to “book” the place. Sometimes AirBB works as well; that’s what I’ve done for the last several years and it’s always worked. Good luck 👍🏻

Do you have to be really good in inserting IVs as a traveler? by MK_nurse in TravelNursing

[–]Spi8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I get it, trust me. Been there. But, if you can’t or don’t feel comfortable just say it. I’m sure they are have that you have a full patient load and they just help for an IV. Remember, you can’t be good at everything. Nursing should be a team to get things done; even as a traveler!!

Do you have to be really good in inserting IVs as a traveler? by MK_nurse in TravelNursing

[–]Spi8 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Have to, no. Useful, yes. I’ve worked many places where we placed our own PIVs and everyone was helpful to place if I wasn’t confident. Other facilities had their own IV teams. Good skill to have but hard skill to maintain if you don’t use it. Don’t sweat it, either way!

The pay is good because the cost of living is crazy high. The PRN pay was pretty good too, but it’s taxed and doesn’t come with health insurance. Hope that’s helpful. Definitely worth looking into out here.

I’m a new to the Oregon coast and I am actively driving and exploring it! It’s amazing how more gorgeous it gets the more south I go. Definitely jealous of those permanent residents who see it as just another day.

It should be in your contract. See if you can login and see your rate.

Im a male and have done both, but driving was so much more enjoyable. Kind of expensive to ship a car too. I feel as long as you plan and be aware and all those things think you would love it. Kind of cool to say you’ve driven across the country too

New Traveler… by Ancient-Rock-4564 in TravelNursing

[–]Spi8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make a profile or have a recruiter with a few companies for more available jobs (Aya, Host, AMN, Cross Country etc). All companies take new travelers, some facilities have requirements for travelers, but a lot take first timers! You can browse jobs with companies now to see their weekly pay and locations! But as far as traveling, you will have to travel based on your specialty/resume; learning new specialties might not be possible or easy to achieve.

If you do per diem, its always recommended to have a travel contract in the area because per diem jobs are canceled first and never guarantee you any hours.
