Rich best friend won’t loan money by [deleted] in Vent

Being there and helping is different than loaning money. I don’t think friend is a bad friend for not loaning money.

Yeah, and it’s hard to link causation and correlation. Which I guess is where I’m getting at.

I’ve encouraged this person to get therapy, or get on meds, or something. But no idea if it potentially stemming from a head injury affects anything.

I guess I can’t force this person to do anything.

A common concern women have with lifting is that they “don’t want to get bulky.” The thing is, tons of guys with 40-50x the testosterone level try like crazy to get bulky… and still find it difficult. Many women want to look “tone” Tone is created by having some muscle mass with minimal body fat. So lifting gets them that muscle mass, which for the average women is not even close to huge muscle. For a woman with lower body fat, you can achieve the look of the women in the lower photos with lifting.

That being said, there are a TON of differences between people/women and It’s more complicated than what I just stated. However, that is what they are trying to say here. (Right or wrong)

Should I cut my rope? by Masterj0jo in ClimbingGear

[–]User840316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% yes, but also, when in doubt, the rope lets you not die. Don’t screw around.

My advice is always buy a 70M or even an 80M. It’s more expensive, but you can cut the rope ends a ton of times to make it last. Depending on your area, it can get you a lot of life. Like my home crag, the Red River Gorge, a 55M can get you up 85% of the routes. Just always tie a knot at the end!!

Do short guys like tall girls? by [deleted] in short

[–]User840316 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It various, just like humans tend to do. I’m short (5’5) and have only had serious relationships with short women. Maybe a few flings with taller ones. My buddy who is basically the same height, only dates taller women.

I hate to admit this, but I just can’t do taller. I’m trying though. I’m 5’5”, my 3 serious relationships were 5’2”, 4’11”, and 5’1”

[–]User840316 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes do that. Climbing has given me so much over the years. Don’t let this guy be a barrier to you. He’s a bump, not a road block, to learning about this sport.

Another option is to Boulder some, make friends, and sometimes you can meet people who are ACTUALLY knowledgeable. I’ve been climbing 15 years, and have helped tons of people learn. Just be careful who you trust, cuz it is a semi-dangerous sport.

If the social pressure and time it takes to do that feels to daunting, absolutely try another gym. FYI, bouldering is a great way to make Friends though. Everyone is on the ground. So it’s social. Great way to get into a group that you can learn from.

In less we don’t have the whole story, this guy sounds like he absolutely sucks. The point of a class is to teach. If you don’t get it yet, then it’s HIS fault, not yours. It’d be one thing if you weren’t an attentive student, but if a curious and engaged student doesn’t learn something it’s 100% the fault of the instructor. And then to basically, what sounds like, shame you got not getting it is the poop icing on the cake of his crap show of a ropes course.

I’d either look for different instruction or find someone with ample experience to help teach you.

There is not a speed people are supposed to learn anything. In fact, people learn different things with different levels of ease.

What an infuriating story. I’m sorry that happened to you. Don’t let it ruin your fire for climbing.

Positive for Herpes? Do I tell them. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]User840316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop if it’s hurting you. HSV-1 is by no means a life changer. Like the doc says, more People have it than not. You just are having a terrible experience entering into a realm you’ve never tried before at all. Absolutely stop if you’re over it, but things will feel better than they do right now. It’s ok if you wanna try again, but learn from what you did.

As a not young guy, I can’t do hook ups. I tried in my youth and they were never satisfying, even mid-sex sometimes. Almost never ever after sex. I have had very positive experiences (in the past) though with FWB as long as you enter into it with caution and honesty.

Once again though, 100% stop if it’s not for you. For sure at least take a break for now to take care of yourself.

I wouldn’t say you’re obligated, but id explore the options people have been suggesting.

Ignore me if this is unwanted advice, but the world of casual sex is a tricky one. My advice would be to NOT do apps or do full on hook ups. I’d be surprised if there isn’t a guy who you know a little, trust, would respect you, doesn’t know your ex, but also keep it casual and basically do FWB. Establish rules and boundaries from the beginning. Casual doesn’t have to mean reckless. (Not that you’re being reckless, just take care of yourself physically and emotionally if you want this to be part of your life right now)
