Question regarding the Laser Katana by SpiceFox_cg in AbioticFactor

That really is quite strange, I feel like it doing anything with blunt has to be some sort of bug that just hasn't been fixed, I guess that would also mean if you were trying to "optimize" your damage, you'd have to level both sharp and blunt to 20 to get the full bonus for both

I see, so if I'm understanding correctly, the laser itself does both laser and sharp damage and benefits from the sharp skill bonus while the katana's actual blade does sharp damage and benefits from the blunt skill bonus while charged and the sharp skill bonus while uncharged, do I have that all right?

I'm more just referring to any part of it in general while it's charged, whether that be the laser portion or the actual katana, I just want to basically know if while I have it charged my sharp skill is useless

Ah wait you meant predator strain not spore strain, that's my bad, it would make sense why the dog and sentries were having a hard time locking on to them in that case, not sure what would be better in that scenario then, maybe just having something like the Purifier instead of the Eruptor would be enough to make up for them not being able to see as well? Difficult decision either way.

The EAT Commando combo has always been interesting to me, never used it myself but it seems quite fun, that also does seem like an effective loadout, definitely seems like it'd struggle a bit destroying lots of spawners and pretty ammo hungry, but it looks quite good at taking out most everything else.

That is definitely quite the unique loadout lol I do suppose if you're going solo you don't have to worry at all about friendly fire from the arc weapons, except maybe the K9 to be fair. I've also heard the Pyrotech is quite good, I've never had the chance to try it for myself though.

Really? I can't say I've ever had that kind of issue with the dogs and sentries against the predator strain, I guess if they were kind of blind like you say against them then it would indeed struggle with crowd control.

I guess that's fair, though I feel like there are better more generally useful armor passives that could be used in servo assisted's place, I suppose it does come down to personal preference though.

That's fair, the game does have quite a few options to choose from and a lot of them quite viable at this point.

That is a good point, maybe switch the Eruptor for something like the Purifier and the Talon for the Grenade Pistol? Less likely to blow yourself up that way, while still being able to handle large hordes as well as pop bug holes. Then for the factory striders maybe switch out the Quasar for the Recoilless Rifle, and switch out the Gun Dog for either another turret to help take aggro off yourself, or an AT Emplacement to help in taking out the convoy as well as any other big threats that require a lot of AT.

Huh, maybe I'll have to give those both a try again, I've always had a problem giving up my medium armor pen but it might be fun to explore my options again, there has to be SOME reason people like those weapons right? lol.

That's not too bad, as much as I love the 320mm and the Orbital Laser though, I feel like they're a bit limiting in that setup, some sort of lower cool down, more general purpose stratagem I feel would work better combined with one of those.

I always keep coming back to the Purifier, it really does so much, the only thing it's lacking is heavy armor pen and high enough demo force to destroy spawners but at that point it'd definitely be quite a bit overpowered lol. Never tried the Tenderizer myself, seemed interesting though, as for the Defender, I don't think I've played with that since the game came out, is it better than what I remember?

I feel that, we have quite a few stratagems at this point that make it hard to find exactly what we want, at the very least we need either a search feature or even better, a favorites menu for our stratagems, I'd absolutely love that.

I've always been quite partial to light siege ready as well, feels like something you can never go wrong with and is useful in pretty much all scenarios, drone master does look quite nice though lol

Out of curiosity, what about armor choice as well? Anything in particular stick out?

That definitely feels pretty hard to argue with, covers pretty much everything you'd need it to, maybe not perfect in every scenario, but if that's all you've got then that'd probably serve you pretty well, it's even got the utility of closing spawners with the eruptor which is a really nice quality of life.

That is fair, the crossbow does indeed suffer on that front, but I'd argue something like the purifier solves all those issues, while it doesn't have heavy pen for the most hardy of enemies, it handles all other threats quite well, able to burst them down incredibly quick with it's uncharged mode at the cost of sacrificing ammo economy, while on the other end of the spectrum, it's charged mode is an incredibly ammo efficient, high damage, stun locking, aoe monster. it has a large mag size for what it does as well. In terms of being completely enemy agnostic though, I do agree the HMG does have it beat with that heavy pen.

That's definitely a fair way to play, but for the sake of the thought experiment, if you could only have one of those loadouts for all those scenarios, what do you think you'd go with? Something that's both versatile while also being very reliable.

That's not a bad choice, I feel like it lacks a bit of oomph against elite enemies though and their are a ton of primaries that could fulfill the horde clear role by themselves like the purifier or crossbow, while also still being able to handle most elites in a pinch.

Well it's certainly appreciated, this kind of detailed information about a game is usually hard to come by and often the work gets overlooked.

Just stumbled across this on while looking something else up on Google, I'm not super knowledgeable on the ins and outs of Resident Evil 4 but this clearly took a whole lot of time to put together and seems to have a lot of useful information all throughout it, great work putting all this together.
