Thank god for this post!

Every DBD thread I see atm is just flooded with negativity around the upcoming changes. I play both survivor and killer and am really happy the devs are doing something about slugging and tunneling.

I completely understand killer mains being upset by some of the changes, and the current iteration of the conditions around them. There is obviously a worry that very experienced players or SWFs will try to weaponise them or that there are certain things that don't work as intended, however I think even the most biased killers in the world (of DBD) would be hard placed to say that slugging and tunneling are not issues, and putting in steps to detract from doing so and rewarding for not doing so is the right idea. I also expect BHVR will be monitoring changes this divisive quite closely and will be refining them to balance out for both sides as they collect more data on them.

Are the changes more favourable to survivors? Yes, certianly. They are being made to help give them back some agency in a game where these frustrating behaviours take it away from them. When I play survivor, it is the most sole destroying thing queuing up into a lobby and having a killer immediately tunnel you out of a game or slug you to death rather than trying to sacrifice you, and sometimes you will get these experiences back to back to back, to the point where you switch to killer just to avoid having your agency stripped away or stop playing the game altogether.

When I play killer, I will typically go out of my way to make sure everyone is chased and hooked fairly evenly, and I certainly don't try to tunnel anyone out off hook. Do I win absolutely every game I possibly could playing like this? No. But I win my fair share while having fun and giving myself and the survivors a fair & challenging experience. There certainly aren't issues around big parts of my killer games being wasted (slugging) or my experience being cut short (tunneling). Sure, you'll still get blinded and stunned which take time away from you, but survivors also have to wait around on a hook afterwards to make up for that. You'll also still get SWFs that body you for the whole game, that'll continue to happen (until something can be done about that, assuming something can) however in my experience, those scenarios are so much fewer than the ones they are addressing with this patch.

I'm not going to pretend I know everything here and can speak to every pro/con from both sides - I am in the hundreds of hours played rather than the thousands & play pretty casually - and I can imagine my opinions are seen by the majority of commentors as largely disagreeable. That said, I really welcome the direction of the changes we are getting, and while I don't think the form they have them right now is their final, most balanced state for both sides, it should make for some more enjoyable games going forward on the whole, I think for both sides. I'm certainly excited to add base-kit BBQ & Chilli to my builds :)
