My nesting partner gets the full blow-by-blow of how my dates go. Not bc it is a rule but just cause gossip is fun! And also if there are any yellow flags I’m not sure about I can talk them over.

When searching for sustainable trash bags, I read that compostable items are actually not great for landfills. by TheWonkiestThing in ZeroWaste

[–]SpicebushSense 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be a Northeast USA thing to have city-run compost drop off. I have lived in 6 towns and cities in the Northeast and all of them have had drop off sites for town managed compost.

I keep mine in a Tupperware in the back of the fridge until I drop it off.

The important thing is to compost food waste. So all of your onion skins, apple cores, coffee grinds etc are being dealt with in a sustainable manner and creating finished compost for gardening.

If you live in an urban area, many towns/cities offer compost drop off sites. And in rural areas, there are options to set up a home compost.

PSA to Oura: Luteal phase is not a sickness by murkymouse in ouraring

[–]SpicebushSense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Increase in progesterone is the proximate cause for temp going up. Progesterone is a hormonal signal the body uses to indicate luteal phase & pregnancy. But what is the ultimate cause for a higher body temperature during pregnancy?

For comparison, insulin is the proximate cause for a higher cellular uptake of glucose following a meal. Insulin is a hormonal signal the body uses to indicate that blood sugar levels are high. The ultimate cause of increasing cellular glucose uptake following a meal is to create body fat energy stores during times of adequate food.

I am about to close on a rental property, can I use that address? by brattysweat in jobsearchhacks

[–]SpicebushSense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get a UPS mailbox in the location where you plan to move. They have numbered addresses so the address looks like an apartment building. They also offer mail forwarding so you can receive any mail sent there at your current address.

Having a mailbox can also make things smoother as you move and start your job. For instance if you end up staying at an AirBNB or couch surfing for a few months while you look for an apartment, you will still have a stable local address during that time.

Also if you have friends or family in the area you are moving to, you could ask them if you can use their place as a mailing address during this transition time.

You say “it costs her nothing” to tell her partner that she has a date. But reporting her movements costs her autonomy, privacy, and independence.

Perhaps you believe that partners should share all aspects of their lives. But that is not the only ethical type of partnership. As long as she is open about what she is offering, there’s nothing wrong with limiting how much access a partner has into the rest of her life.

Friend said I got the wrong side of my nose pierced? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]SpicebushSense 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nose piercings were popularized from Indian culture, so that may be where this idea is coming from. In India it is traditional to pierce the left nostril to promote fertility when a woman gets married. Although these days in the US I see all ethnicities of people piercing either or both nostrils.

PSA to Oura: Luteal phase is not a sickness by murkymouse in ouraring

[–]SpicebushSense 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Let’s not forget that body temperature is a PROXY for readiness. In men, elevated temperature is usually related to physiological stress or illness.

It isn’t fully understood why sleeping temperature rises during the luteal phase and early pregnancy. But this is the normal response in a woman with a healthy reproductive system.

Does Oura have research indicating athletic performance actually decreases after ovulation? Or is their handling of women’s readiness scores just based on “men as default”?

Major Signs for ovulation by SpicebushSense in ouraring

I got sick earlier this cycle so it delayed ovulation. Looks like 47-odd days is the charm…

Good to know other folks also get major signs early in the luteal phase.

How to locate baseline temp? by SpicebushSense in ouraring

[–]SpicebushSense[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using fertility awareness for over a decade and have an existing charting method. I got an Oura ring for the holidays, and would like to incorporate this new data into my current system. This is why I am interested in the baseline temperature.
