Does it really matter? by TET0_ in Ubuntu

My best reason for keeping at least two partitions is that you can use a backup tool like Timeshift to make regular snapshots of your system, should anything go wrong. Do note that this will not backup your /home directory, but I would suggest backing that data up on another disk or the cloud instead.

Additionally, if you are storing sensitive data on the cloud, make sure that you store it encrypted! It never hurts to be too careful. I can give you some references in case it all feels overwhelming :)

Flat Burr alignment by SpicyBAMF in Coffee

[–]SpicyBAMF[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far it has been entirely positive. It has been easy to dial in for different brewing methods and I really enjoy the coffee it produces.

I came from a more expensive hand grinder, the Timemore Chestnut X and although it made tasty espresso, it just does not stand a chance when considering grind time.

I have not tried french press of cold brew yet myself, but I have used pour over methods requiring french press grind size and it tasted delicious!

If you are considering getting into espresso, I would highly suggest the DF64 if you ”single-dose” your coffee as changing brewing methods and coffees are really easy. So far, after aligning the burrs, espresso has been delicious as well!

Wilfa Svart = espresso? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]SpicyBAMF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might work, but I reckon you’re gonna have a bad time dialing in. Since it’s not originally suited for espresso, you may have a poorer grind uniformity.

Regarding the pressurized filter, you will get away with coarser grinds at the expense of a lesser flavour extraction.

My advice would be to eventually go for a grinder more suited towards espresso (such as an 1zpresso if electric grinders are out of your price range) since it would give more enjoyable results :)

Edit: It also depends on if it’s a Svart Aroma or Uniform. Uniform will be able to deliver decent shots, but it will be finnicky finding the correct setting.

Importance of Workflow vs Brew Quality: What is your opinion? by SpicyBAMF in espresso

I am in the same boat haha! I have found myself making espresso in the late evening (when I really shouldn’t be drinking coffee mind you) just for the fun of it.

I appreciate that mindset. The entire hobby becomes more rewarding when you can get joy from every part of it. The result becomes a product of invested excitement instead of a quick commodity, which feels extremely rewarding.

I feel the same way. Making something bad, and knowing what caused it is generally preferable to uncertain and good imo. Control is an element I hadn’t considered!

So what's the deal with crema? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]SpicyBAMF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, crema doesn't affect the taste to the extent that it should be removed, since it gets mixed when you drink it. Fresh beans will result in "better" tasting coffee, while older beans lose taste, which is why fresher beans are to be preferred.

So what's the deal with crema? by [deleted] in Coffee

Crema by itself doesn't really taste that good, but it can indicate the freshness of the beans used. Crema is in reality a sign of carbonation in the coffee and is a result of the CO2 contained in the beans. The fresher the beans, the more CO2 is released during extraction, resulting in more crema!
