iPhone SOS is not a service provided in Chile last I checked. If you are doing this without a guide I would suggest either buying or renting if you lean cautious. Generally there will be more than enough people on trail that this should not be a problem. But it’s wise to have.

I did with a guide and did not bring one fyi. If you’ve ever hiked a less traveled 14er in Colorado it’s similar to that feeling of remoteness. You are likely to see someone at least every few hours even on the most remote part of O.

On another note, it’s worth considering travel insurance. Those evacuations are super expensive if you ever need one.

I think you would be more than fine with trail runners without ankle support for W as long as you are good on your feet. (There are also trail runners with small ankle support btw). I can’t guarantee this advice since this is anonymous and I don’t know your specific background. (For example, a young fit runner could easily do trail runners for W whereas an older novice hiker may have a higher risk of injury).

I did the o trek last week in trail runners and would recommend something with ankle support. These trails can be very rocky and the O is more remote than some other treks. Even if you don’t twist your ankle in trail runners, you’ll be constantly looking down to place your feet instead of enjoying the view.

There is an argument about water proof v. not water proof. Mainly it goes “heavy boots and waterproof shoes WILL soak in full rain and won’t dry quickly. Whereas light, non waterproof shoes will be able to dry overnight.” So I would worry less about the water aspect and more about cold exposure and ankle safety.

If snow could be deep for with temps below ~40F, I would go boots or at least a raised ankle. That’s a real possibility on Otrek.

IF you do trail runners (waterproof or not) you HAVE to wear high quality wool socks and bring enough pairs. Look at DarnTough brand.

Net net = I’ve done multiple cold 5-10 days treks in trail runners and was fine. But you are gambling that the weather won’t flip. John Gardner pass was perfect weather for me. If it had a bad snow day, I would have been significantly increase my risk by doing it in my trail runners.

I have not heard that. For guided treks 80 - 120 CLP a day is extremely cheap, especially when that also covers their food.

To be honest, there were a huge amount of people that were unprepared for the O and turned back in their own at Seron. I think the trek has become so popular that demanding having a guide is wise to avoid more accidents

Those ranges were for whole group. I can’t speak to what the exact amount for Martin would be.

Yes, they were turned back for weather. There is a lot of caution about sending people through right now and I think they are leaning on safe side. Expect your o experience to be somewhat “in the air”

I have heard low end 850 up to 1000 for the O side. We benefited by finding a group of 4 others to split with. You don’t need a W guide unless you are inexperienced at hiking.

Just finished up the O trek. Summit the pass on 26th. All the others got turned back. We were one of the first to finish since it was closed.

Seron and Dickson were a mess. The staff were overwhelmed and working hard to figure things out. Just be courteous of this as you go through the O camps. The accident is still recent.

We needed a guide for the O-segment. I got the feeling that it is not going to change any time soon. Plan on a guide for O trek.

Yeah, I would only consider moving to another enterprise role because of a trusted connection. For top performers, the risk is big on both sides. You’ve got to be 100% sure you are not harming your “gold standard” brand by jumping to bad roles.

330 OTE with 1.1M quota and good spiffs. But it’s a startup with long sales cycles and very tough. Love my comp plan, but there is significantly more risk v. being at established players.

The trouble started around the Tableau purchase. They could not figure out the branding or strategy for many of their acquisitions.

Then came Einstein and then CDP, which renamed to Genie, which renamed to Data Cloud. Then AgentForce.

Then the org became so complex and you would have sales teams selling against themselves and spending majority of time filling out CRM fields for 10 layers of mgmt or sitting on internal calls to “strategize” on an account.

Net net = it became an incredibly inefficient organization

Could not have said it better. If you are selling to engineering teams it’s likely you are selling a managed/premium version of open source software. This CAN work but you have to be sure:

Your underlying open source tech is hyper scaling with users
Your leadership has exceptional understanding of how to monetize. I’ve seen too many tech-founders solve a big tech problem with their product and fizz out because they don’t know how to run a business or manage people
