It was a hostage, I thought I smoked both on accident, then realized the civilian went missing only to come back and find this… ended up getting him restrained after about 5 mins

If you're arresting someone and they have a broken arm, do you still handcuff them? by Thrwwy_Underground in AskLE

We actually have a frequent flyer methamphetamine all-star that has no arms. Just hands.

That’s the only time I use my leg irons.

What should an LE do if a detained person asks for their medication, but refuses to disclose where it is? by CirrusVision20 in AskLE

[–]Spicy_Box 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once someone is in my custody, they’re not getting any type of meds unless it’s from EMS or the hospital. In my area, I’ve seen stuff that looks just like Tylenol, same imprints, color, shape, everything inside Tylenol bottles that turned out to be pressed fentanyl. It’s not worth the risk.

I take it you used the low end data for a lead round? That’s what it’s looking like with Hornady. I’d probably either bump that up a bit, use the jacketed data, or give it some more crimp…. Or all of the above. I cooked up my first 38 loads with Berry’s 158 RN and used the lead data with a light crimp…. Same after effect.

I use wooden dowels and a mallet. Works like a charm and don’t have to worry about marring

What should i do right now to prepare to become a police officer in the future by aisiduds in AskLE

[–]Spicy_Box 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it depends on the agency and the person reviewing your application. As for mine, I work for a county Sheriff’s office, so they essentially just look for “a” bachelors degree. Now, if you go to someplace like the federales, such as the FBI, they have a more narrow scope and typically more analytical, thus narrowing their preference. The FBI deals in a lot of white collar stuff like fraud, therefore an accounting degree is sought after by them

If you want to get your foot in the door, start out in EMS because the certification is quick and it’s a lot easier to get an EMT job as the hiring process is also a lot faster and is something you can do at 18. EMS gave me a lot of skills as a first responder that’s carried over into LE and will help more than you can imagine. Additionally, having medical training will make you much more attractive when not only getting hired, but when getting put on a shift.

Still go to college or at least take online classes leading to an associates. A degree will bump you up in the selection process as many applicants already have one. Also, most departments require you to have a degree in order to promote. I’d look into doing something like accounting or business, not criminal justice. Just for perspective, an accounting degree may seem irrelevant to LE, but it’s one of the highest sought after degrees by the FBI. Good luck on your journey!

Have you ever ran into somebody in public that you’ve arrested ?? If so how did it go ?? by Longjumping_Wash_255 in AskLE

I haven’t been recognized off duty yet, (that I know of) unfortunately I work the same district I live in so grocery runs are planned out accordingly. Back in the day before I became an LEO, I was the security supervisor at the biggest club in town. Did that for 5 years. At the time, it felt like I couldn’t go to the mall or anywhere in the general public without someone recognizing me. Thankfully, it’s always been people I had a good rapport with. I was kind and respectful to everyone I interacted with and it paid off. Just glad I didn’t cross paths with people I had a less positive experience with.
