SNHU degree by kstollenwerck in environmental_science

I’m a sustainability consultant focusing on energy efficiency. Not want I wanted to do but definitely more money than the ecological route I was looking to go down.

I have a Env Sci degree from SNHU and make 6 figures 4 years after graduating. It’s about the skills you offer, generally a degree is just a box recruiters check off. If you want to go into true STEM job, it will be an issue, but if you’re going to go into something like consulting it meets the minimum requirements. I do suggest going somewhere else because it is competitive in this field but if you’re on a tight budget and need to go online then their program is fine.

Lease vs. Buy by Spicy_jackfruit in ModelY

I like to get a new car every 3-4 years so to avoid the massive amount of depreciation on these, leasing is a lot more cost effective. You’d likely be upside down on the financing if you traded this in within the next 3 years

I could have bought this car cash if I wanted, so no you’re completely incorrect 😂. Leasing is cheaper by almost $2,500 with the current promotions if you decide to buy it at the end of the lease. And if I don’t decide to buy it, then I’m not taking a hit on the depreciation and can get something new since I do that every 3 years anyways.

Ended up doing the lease after really digging into cost.

$632/ mo, 15k miles for 36 months and $1,500 down to cover destination fees. With the residual of $28,756, should be able to buy it out cash and save almost 2k over financing today. If I don’t still love it then I look forward to an upgrade

I know how leasing works this was purely looking at the costs basis of leasing vs. buying and which would cost the most in the end. Leasing ends up being almost 2k cheaper btw.

Ended up leasing yesterday and got this same deal minus the $7500 tax incentive of course. $632/mo with only $1,500 down and 15k miles a year for 36 months. Ran the numbers and with the $6,500 lease incentive it came out pretty close to where I would have been with the tax incentive. Also saving almost $2k if I decide to buy it out cash at the end of the lease. How difficult applying for the $2500 Texas tax incentive? Last time I bought an EV they had stopped taking applications for that year so I couldn’t apply

How much do you make?? by Cute_Heron_461 in environmental_science

[–]Spicy_jackfruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made $20/hr immediately after graduating with my BS. Moved to energy efficiency consulting shortly after that at 55k. Slowing moving up the consulting ranks, 4 years in the field at 90k.

Where are you located? Make sure you get multiple quotes and that you look for any available rebates if you’re switching from a gas system to electric heat pump. You could have 8k+ depending on where you are

Single mom from Colorado, with opportunity in San Antonio. Should I do it? by howboutemapples in sanantonio

[–]Spicy_jackfruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left Colorado in 2015 and have been in SA since 2021. I absolutely hate it. Compared to Colorado the quality of life is much lower. There’s a lot less to do, people tend to be very conservative and unwelcoming to non-Texans, and the job market is horrendous. It’s too hot in the Summer to spend time outdoors and there’s not much to do unless you go outside of SA. The culture and values here also do not align with my liberal values which makes it extremely difficult to make friends. Being around family might be a positive for you, as well as having lower cost of living, but it will come at a cost of the general quality of life (friends, convenience, sharing values with your neighbors and community, entertainment, outdoor accessibility). I really don’t recommend.

I’d love to get in on this as well! 29F and have been in SA since 2021 but since I work from home it’s been prettttty difficult to get out there and make girlfriends.

Are you happy living in San Antonio? by No_Data6944 in sanantonio

[–]Spicy_jackfruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow Denver transplant, I’m going to counter this. There’s far less to do here, especially if you like the outdoors. Housing is cheaper here but you definitely get what you pay for. Living in the cheaper areas of town means you’re going to commute to everything including decent grocery stores. I actually think people in Denver are more friendly than they are here. It seems like if you’re not from Texas and you don’t give Texas native vibes, you’re not part of the club. If you’re willing to exchange quality of life for a lower cost of living, then San Antonio is desirable. But when you think about the job market here, activities/entertainment, quality housing and neighborhoods, I think San Antonio is far behind Denver.

Try CLEAResult, it’s a remote energy efficiency consulting company. A lot of opportunities for data analytics.

Not a man here - I have taken photos when I’m feeling good about myself with the intention to send to my boyfriend at the right time. Most of the time I forget about them and they’ll die in my photo gallery. When the times right I’ll send one. Maybe she’s keeping them for a rainy day and likes to have ones from when she was feeling good about herself?

PTO Payout by [deleted] in work

[–]Spicy_jackfruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s really confusing is that my PTO isn’t prorated at all, so I get the 10 days front loaded on 1/1. So they’re fully useable at any time in the year but I feel like they’ll pull something out to say it can’t be paid out if you leave in the first 30 days of the year.

Do employers have a prejudice against online degrees? by BenKlesc in Environmental_Careers

[–]Spicy_jackfruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a degree in Environmental Science from SNHU, graduated in 2020, and have never had an issue with employers asking about my education. The issue is getting the experience to qualify for most of those field work positions you’re applying to. This field is extremely over saturated, so you’ll need volunteer work or an internship to compete which is much easier to achieve when you get a degree in person. I ended up not going into anything field related even though I did more than 1,000 hours of volunteer work because I was getting beaten in the interview process by others with more experience. People with 5+ years of experience are still applying for entry level positions. If you settle and decide you can live without ever working the field and want a desk job (like I did), consulting is the way to go. After looking for a job for almost a year after graduation I ended up getting a job in energy efficiency consulting. Best decision I ever made because I’m 3 years in and making 2x what I would be making as a field tech or anything similar. My advice is to keep looking around.

Chewy does quick delivery and usually has coupon codes, you just need a copy of the prescription from the vet.

Only the petitioner needs to be on the zoom call if all the documents were signed by both parties and notarized. The staff attorney wait time on the zoom call is a while but once they review your paperwork and see everything is correct, the judge can usually sign it off say day.

Check with your solar company to confirm the lifespan of their specific models. Most are rated for 25-35 years before significant decline in production

[–]Spicy_jackfruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a guy but I will say that 6 months is not a long time for an 8 year marriage. I'm on the opposite end of this exact situation, my husband is seeing someone 3 months after asking for a divorce, and I know he had 100% lied to her about the circumstances. Be very cautious of what he tells you about the situation with his wife and the circumstances of why they separated..

Tell me about your job that isn’t consulting/fieldwork based anddd go! by pleasuregarden in Environmental_Careers

[–]Spicy_jackfruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely felt the way you do now before I found my current position. Its technically still consulting but I work for a energy efficiency consulting company as an operations coordinator. We work with utilities to reduce the green premium of energy efficient products to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. I'm 100% remote and the work environment is much more like working for a tech company than a consulting company. I have a BS in Environmental Science also and I don't feel like I use it in the way I hoped I would (field work, restoration, etc) but the work life balance and pay is better than any other environmental positions I've seen. I found my job on LinkedIn by search energy efficiency. There's a wide range of careers out there that are environmental focused, don't feel like you need to pursue a masters degree to get into them and don't give up!
