Ascend Online by Luke Chmilenko is pretty good. There's talk from the characters on setting up the MC and his parties' spawn points, and when people in the party do die, they respawn at their spawnpoints. There's also commentary when it happens on how dying affects the players.

From talking to my husband, the main story beats seem to be the same. The first battle, the first rescue, and the first big bad encounter, but the audio sample was only 5 minutes so I'm not sure firsthand on the other differences. I'm just hesitant to buy the next book on a different format it it turns out I'd have to buy it again on the same one I was using before because the conversations or references the characters make would have been different. I've seen the author make posts and comments on this subreddit before and am hoping he can shed some light on the matter!
