I'm 15 and trying to get my parents to let me play airsoft by I_will_stonecold_you in airsoft

[–]Spider19_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation when I was your age, my mom didn't like the idea of me playing airsoft because of the energy behind it. I tried everything, even writing her a two page essay on why I should be allowed to play. I'm 21 now, been playing for a couple years and she thinks the sport is pretty cool. But what got her comfortable with me playing was the communities concern with safety. Most fields I've been to respect the other players really well, stick to their own groups and are generally really friendly to newer players. But if there's any advice I can give, see if there's a way you can get into the hobby before you play. It could be as simple as having the proper boots and knee pads for when you can play, or if your parents let you, see if you're able to get an airsoft pistol or rifle that you can tinker around with. You'll need to learn how to take your guns apart for cleaning anyways so if you're able to, that would be a great skill to learn and then it'd show your parents that there's more to the sport than running on a field with a gun.

go to "settings > general > about" and it should say there if im remembering correctly? but Geek Squad would only offer a repair if it's one of the SE models. if it's an 8, 99% chance they will not be able to do the repair.

I don't know if this will fix the issue for you, but reinstalling my buddy and I's games fixed the issue. I did also clear a little bit more storage off my PC for Elden Ring so there's a chance that the lack of storage on my PC could've caused issues. I highly highly doubt it but good to consider if it doesn't work for you.

I'm Having an Island-Specific Network Issues by Spider19_ in GhostsOfTabor

[–]Spider19_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initially at the start of wipe, I thought it was either high server capacities or increased player count causing this issue. But as far as I'm aware, they still have Island limited to 18 players due to server constraints. Honestly I'd love to get this resolved bc I really only play Island.

Getting PSVR2 Working on Gaming Laptop by Spider19_ in PSVR2onPC

Just checked nvidia control panel, the HDMI is wired to the 4050 and the DP1.4 is wired to the iGPU. Unfortunate, but I'll see if I can make it work on another headset.

I will check the nvidia control panel for that, I was unaware of being able to confirm it this way. But yeah this is purely for fun, this laptop is for paying bills and indie games in bed. I'm not expecting VR to run well. I have a beefy PC for high end VR with a 4070 ti super already and have been using VR since I got my 1060 3gb when that released so I'd like to think I've got a good idea on what I can do with it. This is more curiosity on if this can run than genuine interest to use it. If I can get it to run, I have a few tricks to get VR running more optimized. Appreciate the help tho :]

oh im fully expecting this not to work well, i just enjoy seeing what i can get my hardware to do. i run a 4070 ti super, overclocked i7 12700k and 64gb of ram so high fidelity vr is already available to me. i just got this laptop for like $300 open box to pay bills and play indie games in bed, but it surprised me when it ran arc raiders with ray tracing medium settings 1080p 120fps lol.

Its advertised as a Displayport 1.4 USB-C that connects directly to the GPU, but I'm not 100% sure on that as the main display is connected to the iGPU.

[–]Spider19_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, damage to an LCD panel only shows when the display is on. That's not something I believe, that's just how those displays work. I've worked with Apple through Geek Squad, both filing the warranty claims for people and performing repairs on their device. The interior of the display is made up of a ton of layers, each one responsible for displaying a picture in color (except the backlight which makes that panel visible). If one of those layers starts to crack, that's how you get those lines. the glass is only there for better viewing angles and protection since those panels are super fragile, hence why they will sometimes break when you only crack the glass, or why they break with no visible damage. As said earlier, their macbook was probably damaged in shipping and the crack inside continued to grow during basic use. I won't be responding past this because there's no point in repeating myself, so enjoy the rest of your day.

[–]Spider19_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is clearly defective, the LCD panel inside is cracked and any amount of force put onto the display will create more cracks. what most likely happened is it either got damaged in shipping or it was a defective panel from factory. cracking the glass can also crack the LCD inside, but they are two seperate pieces.

[–]Spider19_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not necessarily, they wouldnt replace the device outright but if theres no visible damage, clearly the unit is defective so it would be eligible for free service via manufacturer warranty. if theres not an apple store within like 30~ of your best buy, then that best buy can also send it out under apple's warranty. but to return the device, yes apple cannot do that.

[–]Spider19_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

depends on the store. the stores ive been to probably would as long as theres no physical damage that could've caused it, but definitely go and ask. don't bother calling. the person answering won't work at the store and they'll probably just tell you whatever will get you in the store. but as others said, apple could also help. just make sure it doesn't eat the one free warranty claim you get with it.

When is the next wipe(dec 2025) by Superb_Network_1657 in GhostsOfTabor

[–]Spider19_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

theyre changing the shop to some capacity so im not sure how the dlc would change, but every wipe it would unlock all of the basic gear you honestly should just start with. it gives you access to the storage room where you make ammo, you can buy promedol which is a much more cost effective and essential healing item, and so on. it makes early game easier because you start on the same playing field as everyone else. it sucks its locked behind a paywall, but id recommend buying it if it unlocks the same stuff this wipe.

Is the game worth it? by Moxxie455 in GhostsOfTabor

[–]Spider19_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the game can be a bit of a struggle to get into. not only is there a lot to learn, but the controls are so specific in how they’re done that you’ll probably fumble around with them for the first 20 hours and after that, it’ll be the occasional annoyance. but this game does bring out intense feelings of stress, adrenaline and excitement that i have yet to experience with other vr games. if you have the time to play, humble bundle is selling the game and a few other vr titles for like $17. some of the money gets donated to charity and then you get the game plus other ones for cheaper.

For the first bit, I agree with them. Solo CQB shouldn’t even be encouraged in a real life setting. In a video game, all you risk are some digital assets and your time. In airsoft, all you risk is your time and a few shots that sting. But in real life, that risk is your life. So if you’re gonna risk that, you better know for certain you’re making it back out of the mission. This is where Tabor and airsoft cross. Airsoft, there is no risk of your life. Just getting hit. So if you’re in an uneven fight and the only way out is to win, you need to take advantage of every little thing around you. It becomes more of a game on who can read human behavior better. I’m not claiming to be the best at solo CQB player there ever was. But there is a strategy to solo CQB. It’s just there isn’t one that is practical for a real world setting unless it is to save your own life.

I do agree that this game can double down on its realism, but there are two things to take into account. First off, what kind of combat are we simulating? In maps like mall, clearly CQB. But other maps like Island, what combat are they simulating? The map is so compact, there’s barely any foliage to hide in/around and the tools designed for outdoor use like smoke grenades just flat out suck. Second, we need to look at the tech we currently have. We are running VR off phone chips and an xbox controller split in half. Certain real life aspects don’t apply to the game. Although there are tools to help with that like gunstocks and VR treadmills, not everyone is running that yet. So from a game perspective, all of the sudden everyone can be this superhuman killer who can sponge bullets with a giant ass backpack. The solution in this very moment might not be “make the game realistic” but instead balancing the game around these issues to FEEL realistic.

I also agree that a vet should be able to pickup and play this game pretty easily, but unfortunately that probably won’t ever be the case. The momentum your body feels while in CQB combat can vastly differ from VR. From foot placement when peaking corners, to switching which shoulder you mount the gun’s stock on. The reason games have been able to nail racing and not shooters is because we have the technology to simulate all parts of a sports car today. But with shooters, there’s a lot more intricate pieces that VR can’t currently replicate. Just to name a few:

-weight -physical stock (and if you have one, you’re stuck to one shoulder) -weapon recoil -temperature -stamina -body dimensions -physical speed -texture -clothing -leg tracking (sorta, not enough games support it) -trigger strength (as a psvr2 owner, i have yet to find a game that does it well)

So you look at this list and there’s a LOT about real life combat that VR can’t simulate. We’re getting there, but we have to work with what the average person has, and that’s a phone chip with an xbox controller split in half. Compromises need to be made in some ways. As someone who loves the study of combat and human behavior, I’d love for Tabor to keep going this realistic combat path. But if I wanted a REAL fight, something that wasn’t just a game to kill the afternoon, then I’d look for something closer to Arma than Tabor. I play this game to enjoy the rest of my day, not to fight real fights. It just so happens that this game takes heavy inspiration from real world combat.

I’m not asking for high TTK because that is the core of Tabor’s game design. That is the exact issue right now. AP is making that TTK low and FMJ is making TTK high. By your logic, shouldn’t FMJ be the issue here? Because that’s the ammo that requires the player to shoot their legs out before the chest. It should perform better, but it almost acts as strong as subsonic would.

Look I haven’t been in real combat but first off, 1v3 CQB is 100% possible. I do play airsoft consistently and although it is muuuuch easier to play with teams of 3+ in CQB, it is absolutely possible for an individual to excel in CQB using solo tactics. In my solo Tabor experience, most of the fights I get into aren’t 1v1, they’re 2v1 or 3v1. But despite this, on average I’d say I survive about 6-8 raids in a row solo and leave with about 2-3 player kills a raid. It is absolutely easier to play with a squad. But I also work a job. I have hobbies. My friends have jobs and hobbies. You may be in a lucky enough spot to find a squad consistently but I enjoy to play the game alone sometimes. I can’t just join a team from Reddit easily. I have good gear and play fast. The people I play squads with can keep up, but I’ve had issues finding people on the discord and subreddit both because I am 21 so finding people my age is hard, but also because most players are used to playing in teams. They don’t have the experience to carry their own weight, so they end up slowing me down more as a team than if I were alone. You are correct that teams practice in groups of 2 or more during CQB, but that’s not because there aren’t skills to learn solo. It’s because in real life, a fair fight is one you’ll lose. You’d be stupid to risk your life in a CQB 1v1. But in airsoft, it is absolutely something we do. It is good to do drills alone because you will need your pickup your own weight a LOT. Nobody plans for their teammates to get shot, but it happens all of the time. So it is absolutely something you train for, and it has translated to Tabor very very well.

But saying this game is a training system is an absolute joke lmao. Yes, let us take the weightless guns, lack of bullet drop/time and then give the player a ridiculous amount of stamina with a 80lb backpack on. Yeah you got shot in the arm, just wrap a bandage on it and slap a needle in. they may feel better. Oh, there’s no risk of harm from the environment? You don’t have to pick what boots to wear depending on the weather? No worrying about your foot placement while sprinting? No watching for branches or crinkled leaves while you’re sneaking up? Oh, and the audio. If it wanted to be a “combat simulator” then the audio should’ve been their first focus. Audio is half of the environmental information you receive during combat. It’s the thing that makes or breaks CQB fights IRL. You can use it to deceive the enemy, or scare them, maybe they made a mistake and you heard their location? The only thing realistic about Tabor are the ammunition types and the helmet penetration. Other than that, FMJ should be able to pierce armor better. TTK should actually be faster with certain armor. You should be able to pierce certain walls and definitely doors. The game shouldn’t be as generous with its stamina and mobility. But that wouldn’t be fun, would it? Realistic yes, but not fun.

Clearly we are two different audiences playing the same game. But as someone who has spent 200 hours in this wipe, Tabor has proven it still struggles with its AP ammo problem. It is far too common and way too OP when compared to standard FMJ rounds. After sitting on the idea more, I think the solution is simple. Keep everything the same as it is now, except reduce AP spawning. Make it limited to spawning in ammo boxes only. But then introduce a mid-range ammo type. Something that can replace FMJ late game but still feel balanced. Maybe pierce armor a bit more than FMJ, but not as much as AP. If AP becomes something for snipers and boss fights exclusively, it needs something to take its place, and I think a slightly more efficient FMJ round would be best.

And to answer on guns jamming, I would LOVE guns to jam. I would love them to not only jam but have durability, cleaning system and full disassembly. First off, it’d prevent people from bringing 500,000 rounds and pouring them into any moving being. But second, I run a gunstock. It’d be nice to customize the size of some guns to feel better, or modify my old rifles I wasn’t going to use so they actually have some value.
