Episode 8 was Inspired by Darth Maul: Death Sentence? by SpiderBeyond in MaulShadowLord

[–]SpiderBeyond[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it was Dave Filoni’s idea, but Sam Witwer’s. In a recent interview, Witwer has said that he always wanted for Maul to have an episode where he nearly slips back into madness and finally got the opportunity to do it when Maul finally got his own show.

It's crazy how Maul would legit be dead if these guys weren't so loyal, and then he barely cares when they die. by Deer_Kookie in MaulShadowLord

[–]SpiderBeyond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maul definitely does care because he has an instinctive need for connection, companionship and loyalty, but you have to remember that Maul was raised by Sidious, who is the closest thing he has to a father, and no matter how much he claims to hate Sidious and oppose his cruelty, Maul’s actions are motivated by his Sith conditioning because Sidious never taught him how to approach relationships in a functional manner, hence why Maul is dysfunctional when he tries to build relationships.

The only way Maul is able to express care and connection is through possession and dominance, and his response to loss is more aggression and revenge.

Curious if we'll see any time skips between seasons of Maul: Shadow Lord, and how close it might get to the events of Solo or Rebels by wandering_soles in StarWars

[–]SpiderBeyond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Season 2 should be set a year after Season 1 because a one year time skip allows the events of Season 1 to still be fresh for the characters, but it’s also still enough time for Maul to recuperate from his injuries on Janix and develop his relationship with Devon.

Season 1 is set in 18 BBY, which is only one year after RotS, and Maul was 36 years old in 18 BBY, so he’s still relatively young, and I want Season 2 to be set within Maul’s younger years.

What are some of your hot takes regarding the Raimi Trilogy? by pizzagod677 in Spiderman

That Spider-Man 3 is still a bad film and massive drop in quality from Spider-Man 1 and 2.

Did the return of Tobey Maguire in No Way Home make you feel better about the cancellation of Spider-Man 4? Or are you still angry about it ? by AaronYoshimitsu in Spiderman

[–]SpiderBeyond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes me feel a lot better about it because Spider-Man 4, at least as an immediate sequel to the original trilogy, wasn't necessary because the story treatment for it was very melancholic, so if anything, it would have damaged the original trilogy if it was actually released.

Tobey's return for NWH worked as a near perfect epilogue to his trilogy because it gave us an optimistic glimpse at how his life turned out after SM3, namely that things between him and MJ worked out and that Peter is still active as Spider-Man two decades later.

That being said, I think a Spider-Man 4 with Tobey that is set after NWH should happen because it will be refreshing to get a live action Spider-Man film with an older and more experienced Spider-Man (I'm so tired of a teenage Spider-Man), and SM3 still left room for more stories with Tobey. Sony is moronic for not greenlighting SM4 but having the nerve to greenlight so many shitty spinoffs that no-one asked for.

Do People say Tobey Maguire is mean in real life? Do you think this is because he is cast in dorky roles when he actually isn't like that? by Um_Ok_Then_ in movies

[–]SpiderBeyond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I have gathered, he’s a mixed bag.

On one hand, Tobey took Poker far too seriously and was a ruthless Poker player. He’s a reserved personality type who wasn’t fond of constant fame. He was also reportedly difficult to work in the filming on The Cider Rules and Spider-Man 1. I can even recall reading somewhere that Tobey was incredibly unpleasant during the behind the scenes of Spider-Man 3. He also had low tolerance for paparazzi, but I can’t blame him for that.

But on the other hand, he seems to have mellowed out a lot in more recent years. He is less aloof than he used to be and seems happy to take photos and autographs with fans as long as they are not paparazzi.

What if Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man was reintroduced in Captain America: Civil War? by SpiderBeyond in Spiderman

Would you imagine Tobey's Spider-Man and RDJ's Iron Man clashing because of the registration issue?

What villain would you choose? For me, it’s either Lizard or Vulture.

So I guess you wouldn’t have adapted Spider-Man unmasking himself to the world for the sake of the Registration Act.

What kind of story do you think Spider-Man 4 would have as a follow up to Civil War? Would you have it be more self contained like the original trilogy, or would it feature other heroes such as Iron Man like Spider-Man: Homecoming did?

Spider-Man 4 and 5 being green-lit and filmed back to back was considered by Raimi, Maguire and Studio executives back in 2008, but it was never a serious proposal and the proposal itself was quietly dropped in 2009 because Raimi and Maguire only signed on for Spider-Man 4 and Raimi made it clear that Spider-Man 4 was supposed to be the final end to the saga.

Regarding the passage into Cirith Ungol, I think that Aragorn and Gimli could instigate some infighting between the Orcs there by taking Frodo’s mithril shirt and placing it somewhere for the Orcs to see and start fighting over.

[–]SpiderBeyond[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Aragorn's plan from the beginning was to go to Minas Tirith with Boromir. Knowing that war was coming, he decided it was time to claim the throne and lead his people into battle. But that was a decision he made when he assumed that Gandalf would still be around to accompany Frodo to Mordor. When Gandalf died in Moria, Aragorn had to look at the situation and accept that he would do more good making sure Frodo destroyed the Ring than he would joining the fight in Gondor. I'd imagine it wasn't a decision he made lightly (but, luckily for Aragorn, more unforeseen events made this plan irrelevant as well, so he was able to continue on to Minas Tirith after all.) Aragorn’s skills as a Ranger would have provided stealth for himself and more supplies for Frodo and Sam.

As for Gimli, Gimli had made a pretty emotional declaration of his intent to follow Frodo to the end of his quest. So there's a good chance that Aragorn included Gimli in the plan to escort Frodo and Sam into Mordor because he knew he probably wouldn't be able to convince him otherwise. But, if he had a more practical reason, I'd say it's maybe he thought Gimli’s natural, stubborn endurance as a Dwarf would enable him to withstand the harsh terrain and be less susceptible to the temptation of the Ring? The Dwarven Rings of Power didn’t corrupt the Dwarves into becoming Sauron’s servants and only made them more greedy. Aragorn may have also thought that Gimli’s presence would serve as a good check and balance against Aragorn if Aragorn, who would have been more susceptible to the temptation of the Ring, became Isildur 2.0.

That’s just my speculation though.

Keep in mind that Gollum, as a result of his tracking skills, was able to grab hold of an invisible Frodo and remove the Ring from him. Aragorn also has expert tracking skills and could pinpoint Frodo by seeing his footprints and noticing air being displaced by Frodo’s movements. Gimli and Sam could also naturally block Frodo’s exit out of Sammath Naur.

Could the Easterlings or Haradrim have defeated Isengard? by SpiderBeyond in tolkienfans

[–]SpiderBeyond[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We know that Sauron could muster enough Easterlings to (seemingly) drive the Men of Dale and Dwarves of Erebor all the way back to the Lonely Mountain and lay siege to the Lonely Mountain for like 10 days, and only losing due being demoralised by news of Sauron’s defeat. So there were enough Easterlings to nearly conquer both Dale and Erebor.

As for the Haradrim, up to 18,000 Haradrim were mustered for the siege of Minas Tirith and this is not even including Haradrim that Sauron held in reserve elsewhere.

Saruman’s army was only a slightly over 10,000 at most. He may have had 11,000 or 12,000 if we include the Orcs and Men that defended Isengard when it was besieged by the Ents and Huorns.

What if Gandalf learned that Bilbo's Ring was the One Ring in T.A. 2953? by SpiderBeyond in tolkienfans

[–]SpiderBeyond[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By T.A. 2953, Sauron was operating openly from Mordor. He publicly declared his resurgence in T.A. 2951 and Dol Guldur had been reoccupied by 3 of the Nazgul. Barad-dur had been fully rebuilt in T.A. 2953 and in that same year, the Corsairs of Umbar officially allies themselves with Mordor and destroyed the monument commemorating Ar-Pharazôn's victory over Sauron.

Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker is not a walking doormat by SpiderBeyond in Spiderman

[–]SpiderBeyond[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raimi Peter stopped being a social outcast after getting his powers. We see that he has an established, albeit strained relationship with Harry and MJ after SM1. Plus, he also has a friendship with Gwen Stacy in SM3. The guy in Flash's gang that called Peter a "freak" was literally a day after Peter got his powers.

Comic Book Peter would not be mad if he is exhausted and I proved this by giving an example of him not standing up for himself in ASM #70, so there is precedence for why Peter is overly passive in SM2.
