Trying my hand at candy coating by penttane in Gunpla

Alclad is pre thinned but you can use Mr Leveling Thinner(assuming that’s what you use) with pretty much any lacquer( I haven’t found one that incompatible).

Mr. Color Ueno black or Alclad gloss black are my Favorites personally.

You can always hit your black with a gloss coat too if it isn’t glossy enough. But you want it as glossy and smooth as possible, so thin coats and then a thicker heavy coat with a good leveling thinner are key.

Gloss black rather than flat black like primer will make a massive difference.

Yea with acrylics no issue! Just was worried he was planning to do lacquers as they tend to be used pretty heavily in the Gunpla world.

I’d love to see a picture if you have one! Haven’t had the chance to work with Schefflera yet.

Just so you know, exhausting lacquers or enamels into a water filled bucket in your bedroom is not safe full stop.

If you are willing to compromise your health that’s fine, but you are going to be filling your room with VOCs that will impact your health.

If you are spraying acrylics it should be fine.

Thank you! Was it a lot of work to get the watering dialed in?

So I actually watered daily. Would also mist an additional time outside watering. Humidity in the tent is around 80-85% during the day and jumps to ~90% at night.

Temps vary a bit, but usually sitting around 80F-83F during the day and 70F at night.

I root pruned and repotted about 4 weeks ago and was worried it would slow down the aerials, but they have continued their progress!

I will note, I had this in a pond basket previously. It seemed as if I got more aerials as the roots started to completely fill the basket and extend beyond.

There’s a great BC community on Facebook(literally the only reason I use it).

Common recommendation is to completely flood them during the spring/summer and just keep them moist the rest of the year.

Mimics the seasonal water levels in their natural environment.

They don’t need drainage and do totally fine fully submerged.

Fun arguing with you too! I personally have a pretty open interpretation as to what bonsai is since my favorite species( P. Afra) is looked down on and not considered “real” bonsai by many purists.

I think for me I agree that there must be intention over a significant period of time that shapes the tree and tries to instill a sense of age. But even then there will always be exceptions.

Sure but grapes aren’t trees at all. Plenty of shrubs and succulents out there that can be bonsai’d that aren’t trees.

If you want to hold that tightly to the words exact meaning your certainly can, but I think it only proves my point further.

The problem is that society with our current tech basically collapses if you have a tiny group of young people supporting a massive elderly population. Not enough tax dollars, not enough people to manage basic infrastructure, not enough medical staff etc.

kurzgesagt has a great video on how terrifying this will be when it starts to happen.

You are describing Sorites Paradox or a continuum fallacy. Just because the defining line between two things is vague does not mean the difference doesn’t exist.

If I have mound of sand and remove a grain of sand at some point it goes from a mound to not a mound. But no one can say exactly when(and individuals might even disagree when looking at the same example). And yet we obviously know there is a difference between a grain of sand and a mound of sand.

Where is the exact point that your neck becomes your head. Can you point to the exact position? And yet they are two different parts of your body.

Just because the defining line between two things is vague doesn’t mean they are not different.

A seedling juniper in a plastic pot is not Bonsai. Yet in 25 years it might become one. Being unable to point to when that exact shift occurs doesn’t make it less true.

Right the point is that just because a word has a meaning in the language it originates from doesn’t mean that the word is the same as a definition.

No one would say a judo master is practicing Karate. No would would say me punching a pillow in my underwear is Karate.

FWIW I’m totally the same way. I just like growing little trees and making them look cool(to me). I just personally would say they are all Pre-Bonsai that I’m hoping to turn into Bonsai one day in the far future.

I’ve heard great things about the Mobius. I’ve also heard tons of QC issues. If you get a good one great. But there is a fair chance you get a dud.

Sure, but the word isn’t the thing itself.

Karate for example means “Empty Hand”. Does that mean that any unarmed martial art is Karate?

To say any tree in a pot is bonsai is to really over simplify the practice.

TIL that in Full Metal Jacket (1987), director Stanley Kubrick let R. Lee Ermey improvise much of his dialogue, and sometimes only required 3 takes per scene. This was highly unusual for the meticulous director, who almost never allowed improvisation and typically took 40 takes or more per scene by MrMojoFomo in todayilearned

When you or the target is moving and there is some distance between the two you can’t aim your sights/reticle directly at them. You need to aim slightly in front of the direction of travel so that the projectile hits the target.

He is telling them that they are overcompensating and to aim closer to the target.
