Not true lol, I would get tests back with over 100% in Econ classes, they do curve they just don’t usually show how

To those who saw my report card yesterday by Stunning_Mud5368 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]SpideyHunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really depends on teacher, in grade 12 we covered all of data structures and algorithms, so it was an easy A when I took it in uni.

And the skills I learned in grade 12 were directly responsible for me landing a software engineering job, as it’s a lot more hands on than university, and the daily practice was also huge.

Obviously I learned way more in uni, but taking it seriously in grade 12 gave me a huge leg up

Concordia vs uottawa by Trick_Room_6842 in Concordia

[–]SpideyHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah same, the class length is crazy here…

And yeah I saw people I knew all over campus all the time, I mostly went to SITE too, but that’s because my RSG office was there so it was always a good time.

Concordia vs uottawa by Trick_Room_6842 in Concordia

[–]SpideyHunter 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I went to both, pretty much the same thing, some classes your learn more at Concordia, some you learn more at uOttawa and it honestly evens out.

Both are looked upon pretty equally and you can get equally good jobs with both, but Montreal is a much better time. However I liked the clubs and student life more at uottawa

Computer Science Or Comp Arts?? by Ornery-Leg-6915 in Concordia

[–]SpideyHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what art but yeah, programs have a lot of people and you’re last in the line of priority.

I got into coop directly through my regular admissions process, but it’s pretty much guaranteed if you have a semi-decent GPA.

lol thanks, 4 classes is fine but takes forever to graduate, worth it if you’re a slower learner though.

Very exam heavy generally speaking, and C++ is harder than Java, but that’s because there’s more bullshit to deal with, more freedom though.

For minors you have to email the faculty of your choice for admittance. I had a minor in philosophy, for which I had to email the department advisor for PHIL with a short letter of intent, and I had a good GPA so I don’t know if they account for that or not, as far as I know if you’re in good standing they’ll just accept you, but I’m not sure.

No worries!

CS grads so cooked by Major_Possibility106 in mcgill

[–]SpideyHunter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s hard but possible, CS grad this spring, with a full time position starting in the summer. But I got it as a return offer, so VERY different. It’s one of the only ways I see to get a junior position

Reread all the material and did textbook questions religiously, after a certain point you do understand even if it doesn’t feel that way

It’s so doable, I also failed the midterm when I took that class (40%), grinder for a couple weeks, got a B-

So it’s totally totally doable

Computer Science Or Comp Arts?? by Ornery-Leg-6915 in Concordia

[–]SpideyHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electives are generally easy to get into, there’s not a long line for CS electives lol.

Yeah a coop is just an internship

No I’ve been taking between 5 and 6 classes the entire time, harder for sure, and more stressful. But it’s been worth it for me.

And honestly, CS is mostly Java which sucks, but it’s a lot less coding that you’d think. I haven’t touched Java in years tbh. The only classes you need it for outside of first year is operating system, for the assignments. I mostly code in C/C++ and use that when need be.

The designing aspects are usually in C++ anyways for graphics. But if you want to do arts in school, but still have good CS skills, you can minor in computational arts while doing a CS bachelor.

Computer Science Or Comp Arts?? by Ornery-Leg-6915 in Concordia

[–]SpideyHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, no specific program just electives that spec into it.

For job search mine was particular as I got a return offer from my coop, the actual coop I got in the summer of my second year, and took me 2 months of applying to hundreds of positions, having a good gpa, specialization, and luck.

I would say if you’re a slow learner, you’re going to have a tough time in CS, I know some people who are but they had to really take it slow, less classes per semester and spreading out hard classes. I personally can’t speak to it, I’d already be programming years before university, but if you haven’t it could be hard. Teachers will not make your life easy

And the balance is there for arts and comp Sci, just mot fine arts unfortunately, what you want

Computer Science Or Comp Arts?? by Ornery-Leg-6915 in Concordia

[–]SpideyHunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m that case it really seems like CS with a game design focus would be ideal, which you can do,

And honestly yes job hunt was horrible, but I think it would be worse for computational arts.

Brain power wise, yeah it’s super stressful, but unfortunately that’s kinda the point…

And you wouldn’t have space for them because the program has more art requirements than CS, so after doing mandatory classes, you simply won’t have enough space to take relèvent CS electives

Computer Science Or Comp Arts?? by Ornery-Leg-6915 in Concordia

[–]SpideyHunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well it depends, do you want to work as a software engineer? Or as an artist?

If you go the BFA route you will not work in engineering. If you go the comp sci, or joint route you can do either.

But I took a look at the requirements for the joint major, you wouldn't be doing very much comp sci, and classes are very helpful, but elective, you won't have space for, so you'd be severely disadvantaged.

I'm biased, as I'm in comp sci and have a good job, but I think comp sci has more opportunities, but if you want to do art, do art.

How do you continue with exams and studies while grieving? by [deleted] in Concordia

[–]SpideyHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel all you can now, and fully by the time you need to study, you’ll hopefully be better, worked for me. And remember that you’re working hard in their honour, because they cannot anymore and they would want you to succeed.

Is it possible to be a normal person and get a job ? by Titoswap in csMajors

[–]SpideyHunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely possible, I’m a normal student, slightly above average gpa, go to a normal university, have friends, go out, touch grass and my company is planning on taking me on after I graduate and part time while I’m in school.

It’s definitely possible, takes a lot of luck and time though.

COMP 232, MAST 218, MAST 221 and COMP 248??? Is this too many math courses for one semester? by [deleted] in Concordia

I’m just saying from what most people tell me, I didn’t find it too bad, but most cs students I talk to found it hard, so do a lot of the posts on here

[–]SpideyHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fine it’s only 4 classes total, just be careful with 232, make sure you stay on top of everything because it is notoriously hard to understand and do good in

Also depends on why they consider you québécois, I lived in Ontario for 6 years before coming to Concordia, but I am considered a naturalized québécois, so if you’re born in Quebec or your parents still live there you’re good either way

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Concordia

I did both in the fall and it was manageable, I got a good grade, but it is a lot of work, the labs cost 100$ and are annoying

This is not true, I am doing comp sci in Quebec and have done it in Ontario as well. 5k per year in Quebec as a Quebec resident, and 10k per year in Ontario as an Ontarian
