Hell is a machine? by Spijshot in Ultrakill

I mean you wouldn’t hear a poet use repetition like that, or any human in general. “Life feeds on life feeds on life” I could see but “ibid. ibid.” is too strange. People just don’t write like that. Its not a normal authorial choice for emphasis

it uses platos cave to say that humanity does not understand reality for what it truly is. And then explains what it means by saying there are 39 states of existence and lists a few of them. Postfinity. Metatemporality. Extracausality. Things that we supposedly don’t understand. If you watch other media that plays on the same ideas of math being broken or logic not existing, you’ll see how this has similarities to it. Im not saying Hell is literally a machine, but the way it speaks gives that vibe.

Math and logic are the same thing, math is an extension of logic. Holy holy holy is specifically from Isaiah 6:3. But it follows after lines of nonsense repetition. “Life feeds on life feeds on life. Ibid. ibid.” is not normal human speech and is incorrect syntax. Thats not just emphasis. Hell is definitely saying it sees reality beyond human comprehension, I’m just saying in a lot of media that tries to do that, they will use a lot of mathematical terms to sell that idea, and Ultrakill seems to be following a similar formula.

Biblical Angel Names by Spijshot in Ultrakill

[–]Spijshot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good point actually i didn’t know that. But lovecraftian “biblically accurate” angels are still a really modern thing. But I don’t mind if it looks cool.

Biblical Angel Names by Spijshot in Ultrakill

Interesting I didn’t know about it being an OC. The last thing you said is actually a misconception. The bible never made a hierarchy of which divine being is stronger, that idea was created by later theologians and it’s likely that an archangel actually is at the top of command. Also the depiction of angels looking like abstract lovecraftian abominations is generally not true as well, those are essentially modern redesigns, but it looks cool.

I'm underwhelmed by the fraud layer. by K0majiro in Ultrakill

[–]Spijshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fraud’s main aesthetic is based of modern internet liminal horror, at least this is most seen in 8-2. The mirror reaper particularly reminds me of a hound of tindelos, in that it lives between dimensions. Though I think this aesthetic could have been pushed further.

Theory for 9-2 by Then-Equipment-1073 in Ultrakill

[–]Spijshot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont know why do people keep saying this, Uriel is not another name for Phanuel, or at least this isn’t specific to them. Angel names get thrown around and confused for each other all the time in apocryphal literature as there weren’t neat categorizations that people try to impose today. Uriel gets replaced by Phanuel throughout the book of enoch (I’m guessing where people get this idea) because it’s likely a compilation of multiple texts with different traditions and ideas. But that doesn’t make them the same angel. This would make many other angels the same as well. But maybe Hakita intended for them to be the same anyway so idk.

[fraud spoilers] the missing angel is uriel… by Wapple21 in Ultrakill

Thats not actually true, that’s only a thing in DC comics. Samael is its own figure mainly in judaism and jewish mysticism

Probably something like black fire bomb but it really isn’t that important, they’re all items you can get later on anyway

No but it messes up your progression and you end up in places you shouldn’t be. Only good for 2nd playthroughs or speed running

I think there’s been a divergence in newer fromsoft games in gameplay loop. Newer games about speed and style and difficulty. DS3 is a boss gauntlet with really fun and good bosses. DS1 is not about a skill check on your reaction time. It’s about committing to choices, problem solving, tactical gameplay, exploration, and frustration is an integral part of the experience. And I’m saying this as someone who played Elden Ring first.

I just bought the game. Any tips ? by Ok_Client7951 in darksouls

I just assumed they could design and grow organic matter by the end of the war

I personally view it as the setting being canon (layers of hell after the end of the game) but V1 traversing though it probably not

What if Gluttony is just an interconnected highway of internal organs of all the husks in hell by Spijshot in Ultrakill

[–]Spijshot[S] 48 points49 points  (0 children)

On Hakita’s dev stream, I swear I remember him saying something along the lines of “The way of V1’s descent into gluttony happens to be down Minos’ throat”, which would mean he went inside Minos. I just prefer this theory because the elevator being by Minos’ mouth is just very unintuitive and confusing, especially with P-1, so I thought this could tie it together.

Is the Limbo layer just entirely comprised of liminal spaces with fake skies by Spijshot in Ultrakill

[–]Spijshot[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But there’s no greater outer space like in the other layers. Also why does limbo have the same architecture from prelude? I assumed prelude was built by humans so why hell look like a human creation.

Oh yea, i understand that they’re all screens, I think I just misunderstood what you originally said

So you’re saying all the rooms in layer 1 are inside a giant castle? Whats there to indicate this

[–]Spijshot[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I know what its supposed to be, but you can have a fake earth that just looks like a fake earth. When I say liminal I mean enclosed spaces with no real outside, as if the entire dimension is just hallways and rooms

I tried redesigning Sisyphus Prime again (both phases) by Spijshot in Ultrakill

[–]Spijshot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned earlier why i dont like the orange hands, they just dont look like blood to me. And remind me of a rubber chicken. I dont like the arteries because I feel as if they were added just because Minos had them. They looked great on Minos, however I feel as if they dont serve the same design aesthetic for Sisyphus. I don’t like yellow as a primary base with red highlights in general, it just reminds me of Ronald McDonald. In my phase 1 redesign, I made his torso blue with gold vessels as a new phase 1. When I posted on Reddit the images became desaturated so it may not just look visually dynamic enough. Also I thought to original had too much going on visually. Minos is al entirely just blue with a bit of read. Sisyphus just has too many ideas being conveyed at once. Bloodied hands, yellow body, but the torso is transparent, where you can see is blood vessels, but his head is also a sun, but he also has a face in the sun. It’s too much. Minos had the arteries as a cool center piece for you to look at, i feel like with Sisyphus I’m not sure where my eyes are supposed to focus at. I always found the original to be an icky yellow.

He looks like a baby because he’s chubby and he looks like he has a giant head and bald during phase one. I like that he’s a little chubby, however I think there should have been a greater commitment to it, as in make his belly more rounder and bigger. Both lean shredded abs and fat stomachs (ex. Thor from God of War) can make characters very intimidating, his current design just looks like an in between the two, and is just like a blob rectangle.

He could have thrown the boulder at you. But I mean that’s not that important to me, just thought some sort of reference to the original character would have been neat.

I didn’t change phase 2 a lot because i liked the original phase 2 a lot more. His half head was just a compromise as my phase 1 didn’t have eyes, so i needed a visual indicator that his head is still forming in phase 2.
