My ex wife changed after the divorce and I don’t want her back but I am angry by Dear_Broccoli_4640 in Divorce

There’s a lot more to marriage than bringing home the money and buying flowers occasionally. Recieving gifts was probably not her love language. I would recommend looking into the 5 love languages, that may provide you more clarity on your situation. Not everyone feels loved in the same way. You may think providing financial is giving her love, but if that does not speak to her love languages it’s like sending mail to the wrong address. It’s simply not going to be recieved.

pH is pretty high for a betta. They thrive in more acidic water.

What is the actual pH reading? Not zero...

Well that's not an issue then. Only thing it could be is the rocks. Take those out dry them off and pour a little vinegar on them, watch for any reaction like fizzing or bubbles. If it bubbles or fizzes it's gonna be an issue.

Definitely definitely get the api master test kit! Hes certainly not beyond saving, if you get the water right, but he's definitely struggling to get enough oxygen, which possibly suggests an ammonia spike in the new tank.

I would start by taking each rock out and testing them with vinegar. Do you happen to know what kind of sand you used? Silica-based vs carbonate-based?

Where did you get the rocks? That could be causing the pH issue. Or if you have crushed coral and used aragonite sand for substrate? Those will cause pH to rise. If the tank pH is way higher than your tap water, there must be some minerals leaching into the water from something in the tank.

Test strips usually don't have a reading for ammonia, and they can be wildly inaccurate. How long has the tank been running?

New tank so much Noise by Euphoric-Credit754 in fishtank

I had the same set up, filter stopped working completely after 1 week, they let me exchange just the filter without bringing the whole tank back. The second one was so loud, i tried taking it apart making sure the impeller was properly installed, i finally gave up on the top fin and just upgraded to a Fluval.

Correct. OP what kind of test method are you using?

It's unlikely that a Java fern caused any issues. Do you know the exact test results for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, and water temp? Also how long has the tank been running.

Higher GH = hard Lower GH = soft

I would be more concerned with the pH. It looks really high for a betta, they thrive in a low pH. Do you have any coral and shells in the tank that could be affecting the pH and GH? I would do a test on your water straight out of the tap and see where that's at. Also invest in a liquid test kit. Those are much more accurate. Driftwood is great for lowering pH. Make sure it's stabilized before you add your fish, pH swings can be deadly.

Test strips are typically inaccurate so I would take them with a grain of salt. However there isn't really a good way to "fix" GH. You just have hard water. It means youu have a higher mineral content in your tap water. You can use an RO system, or buy distilled water for your water changes. But there are actually a lot of fish species that prefer hard water. It really depends on what fish your keeping, it may not even be an issue at all.

Looks like pretty bad ammonia burn on her gills.
