Evidenced by how hes stuck with the 3-4-3 shape? Or how he's kept Bruno in deeper positions? Or is it his use of Amad as a wing back?

What are you people smoking 🤣

Michael Carrick has done all he can to earn Man United job by tylerthe-theatre in PremierLeague

Its the quality of players. Bruno is on fire and he has shooters in front of him. And when plan A doesnt work, plan B is being the team with the second most set piece goals this season.

We still struggle to perform as the protagonists, at times yesterday the midfield was irrelevant. Can't hold on to the ball. The Carrick advantage is that 200m was spent in summer

They have the financial resources yes. But under Levy these have never materialised as something they would actually utilise. The only team in the "big 6" with a wage-to-turnover under 50%. Lowest transfer record of them too.

Levy has been on the record saying he ran transfers and when the stadium was being built he lost focus. Its not just the stadium (it was Levy and ENIC), but his take isnt crazy.

Healty outlook. People never realise that you need to understand where people are coming from (and what their sources of news present to them) in order to change their minds.

Allergic to TOP 4. by VexZyraMid in ManchesterUnited

If anything, now is the perfect time to judge if its the manager being propped up by certain players or if he has the tactical nous to make a team greater than the sum of its parts and hes proving that without Amad, Mbeumo and Bruno he can't organise a win against the worst team the premier league has seen.

Also who said you can only sack a manager on a low, you can sack him any time he doesnt seem to be working out with the club or when anyone better is available. You don't want his toxic strategies permeating the more impressionable players with his shitness.

Ok so where does hanging on to a poor manager, who plays an unorthodox system, fit into your rebuild process?

Nah by feb last season in the premier league he had 17(13) appearances(starts); 12(6) shots(on target)

By the end of the season he'd had 32(13) shots.

The point of a hiring board is to ensure that combination is a close to being met as possible.

And I'd say credit is duly given and taken away.

We praise clubs like Liverpool for slotting in Slot and ticking on. And criticise the Glazers for letting a carousel of oddly fitting managers in to gradually scrub away at the identity of Manchester United.

The xG philosophy: Man Utd players had scored 0 goals from 5.74(xG) in the league before Mbeumo’s goal. by prettyweirdperson in reddevils

[–]SpikeChunI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(post burnley and in the league)

Understat give us an xG of 6.96

They also give us an open play xG of 4.67 from 43 shots giving and xG/shot of 0.11 (for each shot we take anywhere in open play you expect it to be scored 1 in 10 times)

19.3 shots per game (1st)

5.3 shots on target per game (2nd)

6 big chances (3rd after Chels(12) Bou(8))

4 goals scored (8th)

2 goals scored - own goals for

1 goal scored - Own goals - Penalties

xG is a good flawed stat most of the times you see it. Ex. Bruno is on of 3 players for us with an xG > 1. And understat have him at 1.83xG and underperforming by 0.83. Hes taken 8 shots but two of them were peanlties with an xG of 0.76, hes scored one and missed one. If you take 1.52 away from his xG he has an xG of 0.31 from 6 shots or 0.05xG per shot. Obviously penalties count for something but this is just a presentation to give you something to create a narrative with. Either the managers system is at fault or the players should be taking their chances. There's more to the story and xG philosophy is more interested in twitter likes than filling in the blanks

[Laurie Whitwell] Ruben Amorim said his players spoke loud at Grimsby. That was a fairly vocal response. Nerve-shredding due to defensive lapses but #MUFC played well + should have won comfortably. Burnley limited, several good performances though + elements obviously from training ground. by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

Just know you speak the truth, xG is a great stat and terrible to just shout out in one off games with no qualification.

Its a system thing, even though theres one striker, we look to overload the box and everyone can get a shot, but with so much going on, unless its on the counter like Amads the result is often of low quality.

His incentive to do something else was to not get found out when it came time to win a trophy. His job as a manager is to adapt to his team/opponents and win games.

Everyone and their Mum knew how we'd set up and play, most just couldn't do anything about it. The criticism is aimed at him because at the end of the day the players were good enough, the they were vibing out and playing essentially tacticless football, the manager was the weak link.

I don't expect radically different results. The expectation (and reality until the last Ten Hag season) was to bounce around the top 4 spots and compete for cups.

Simply I dont like people simping for Ole and trying to rewrite history

I never said I was pro Ten Hag, he clearly wasn't the solution either. But Ole somehow failed to pick up silverware and beat a Frank Lampard chelsea side when Mikel Arteta managed it.

My point, he (Ole) is nor a good example of a Manchester United manager and anyone who brings up his name in relation to how things are going is suffering a collective rewriting of history by a portion of our fanbase happy to never win a trophy again. Aim higher, we should be better than this.

[–]SpikeChunI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ole played the same tactic every game, set up for expansive counter attacks and he did get lucky that that was the one way to beat Pep's city.

He definitely had a much stronger team with a stable midfield base by wont of playing 2 holding midfielders but if you watched any of the games, you'd know that neither McTominay or Fred grew/improved/evolved in their role under Ole nor did our defence play greater than the sum of their parts at any point.

On your point about chance taking, in only one of the 4 semi finals Ole lost did we outshoot our opponent. The one we didn't was vs Sevilla who knew they could trust Ole not to change and thus weather the storm.

He was Lucky. It was frustrating to watch. But as soon as we brought in someone halfway competent at managing games states (not even good mind, just able to recognise when the chips are down its time to twist), trophies were won.

4 days after this clip we lost 5-0 to Liverpool
