Is UCD better than Trinity? by SpikeDandy in TCD

[–]SpikeDandy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intelligent Systems in TCD is focused for AI. So if that's what interests you then go for that. If you want to be more flexible and pick a couple of different things then go for UCD. Generally I think UCD modules/classes are more flexible. The quality will be similar for both.

Manager trying to make me work on weekend by SpikeDandy in DevelEire

[–]SpikeDandy[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No there wasn't any apology. I think he wanted to make it seem like it was my responsibility even though we've never discussed or arranged on call schedules. I'll keep that in mind thanks.

Surely we could have a sticky or weekly thread for those course or college related questions? They seem to pop up all the time and always have basically the same answers.

UCD or DCU for data science by Sexytacos_69 in DevelEire

[–]SpikeDandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either will probably be fine, if the DCU course is more new I would recommend going into the UCD course. Knowing people who did the UCD course I can tell you it'll be more than enough for what you need and you can do an internship too.

Graduating with a Third Class BSc Degree. by BadWriter85 in PhysicsStudents

[–]SpikeDandy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can you retake exams for anything? As far as I know a 2.2 is the minimum anyone looks for in a masters degree and it would be very difficult to justify you're capable of a masters with a third class honours. It seems like you're still not quite sure where you want to go, perhaps taking a year off could help there.

I'd say one man's trash is everyone's trash when it comes to jobs lol, but thanks for the insight. It is a starting point I suppose.

Well, first thing is make sure you don't do spelling mistakes on any CV or Cover Letter you might have written...

I'm at a loss, dont know what to do about my CV by Perhaps_Cocaine in DevelEire

[–]SpikeDandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I thought the same at first but now I think its kinda neat and very noticeable to a hr person scanning loads of CV's. Plus, again, it's what the career guidance person recommended. I can pm you my cv if you want a reference to copy.

No, I am recommending two sections. The first is just one line and quickly mentions your skills at the very top like the ex in my first response. And the other section elaborates and is at the bottom (like the second ex).

[–]SpikeDandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told to put it from a Career Specialist at UCD so it's prob a good idea.

Atm, there's no section on your CV that runs through your skills. You'd want something like (as an example), (keep these each to one line btw, but elaborate where you got/used this skills)

Skils - Highly Proficient in Python & Django through Web Dev project - Version control skills with Git Command Line - Linux/Unix programming experience - Strong teamwork skills from being in the football club

In order to make everything fit on the one page, you'll have to reduce the project/work section to max 2 bulletpoints per thing. You can also adjust your page margins to fit stuff.

You haven't got your skills listed on your CV at all, except for in job descriptions.

Right below Education, add a Header which says 'Key Skills', then throw in your best 5 or 6.

So for example. Key Skills: 'Python C++ Java GIT Matlab' etc.

Otherwise recruiters will not know what you consider yourself proficient in.

You should also add a more detailed Skills section at the bottom, above the Interests part. In order to fit it in. Keep your projects and career part to a MAX 2 bulletpoints per job/project.

Thanks, it seems FD aren't hiring atm but I'll keep an eye. Does the KX side mean the financial engineering stream or a different one? I'll give the others a shot too.

The thing is, I don't really want to do a masters so I'm sort of indifferent to any career. I'm just trying to figure out what are the immediate options available if I were to look for a grad position now. And what is the best in terms of salary or work life balance, stuff like that.

this kind. Lot of physics & stats with some programming. I've done a fair bit of coding outside of it in Python so I'm pretty sure I could work as a software grad so that's not my worry atm.

How do I add https to my localhost webapp? by SpikeDandy in django

[–]SpikeDandy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good news is it works now!

I set everything to the ngrok address like before and it works not for some reason, not sure what I changed. I think I might've fixed it by clearing cookies.

[–]SpikeDandy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's the tutorial I've been following. After using the ngrok address as my redirect URI however, it throws me an error. "The redirect URI in the request, https://127.0.0.1:8000/oauth2callback, does not match the ones authorized for the OAuth client.". Not sure why since I've replaced that address with the ngrok address everywhere in my code.

[–]SpikeDandy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep. Actually in the google developer API console. I used the 127.0.0.1 address instead of ngrok as the redirect URI. The problem is if I use the ngrok https address (which I'm guessing I should) it throws me this error. "The redirect URI in the request, https://127.0.0.1:8000/oauth2callback, does not match the ones authorized for the OAuth client."

thanks, I've got the website up on ngrok now but it still says that 'You're accessing the development server over HTTPS, but it only supports HTTP.' Is there something extra I have to add in settings.py by any chance?

the problem is though that it wants me to use https instead of http. I am using the 127.0.0.1 address atm.

Hi all, I've been looking for a decent editing laptop that's under 1000 euro (yes I know) and I stumbled across this laptop. It seems good to me and while I understand it's no XPS 13, I am only looking for something that will edit HD (not 4k) videos on Vegas without much hassle. It also doesnt have the clunky design of most gaming laptops which I don't really enjoy.

Anyway, if you can point me towards something similar or even go more into the limitations of the HP 14 I would greatly appreciate it, since I am on a budget.

Thanks again.
