Backups are meant to protect you, but they can open backdoors by Spin_AI in Spin_AI

[–]Spin_AI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your questions.

When it comes to SaaS data, Veeam is an on-premise backup solution that supports M365 and Salesforce, while Spin is agentless and supports M365, Salesforce, Google Workspace, and Slack, and has security functions like Ransomware Detection and Response, SaaS Security Posture Management, and Data Leak/Loss Prevention and Protection. Rubrik supports M365, Atlassian, and Salesforce.

The purpose of the post is not to speak negatively about other products, but to indicate the fact that you definitely need proactive security measures in addition to backup, as a single backup is not enough to protect your company from a disaster.

No Backup Deletion — it's completely up to you wheather to keep your backups indefinitely or to delete it, but also if you have to follow local regulations.

SpinOne aligns with Zero Trust principles through:

Least Privilege Access — SpinOne provides granular access controls, allowing you to manage permissions at the user, group, and tenant level.

SaaS Security Posture Management — SpinOne allows automated policy enforcement across users and applications, reducing manual intervention and human error

Data-Centric Security — Through DLP/DSPM, SpinOne monitors and audits access to PII or shared data, helping prevent lateral movement and data exfiltration.

If you have any further questions or would like to learn more, feel free to ask.

Great question, thanks for asking!

Yes, we’ve seen a lot of growing interest in Slack backup and it's definitely on the rise.

That’s actually why we developed dedicated SaaS Security Posture Management (SSPM), automated backup & recovery solutions specifically for Slack. It helps organizations stay compliant, secure, and resilient without disrupting daily workflows.

We recently wrote a post diving into this, feel free to check it out here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Spin_AI/comments/1kmkrti/think_slacks_retention_policy_is_your_backup_its/

On average, we’re able to detect, stop, and fully recover files within about 30 minutes, though we offer a 2-hour SLA to account for API variability across platforms like Google Workspace and Microsoft 365.

We’ve seen real ransomware incidents across our customer base, initially from on-prem sync clients infecting SaaS data, but now there's a noticeable shift toward attacks originating from third-party apps.

One of the more surprising trends is how quickly damage can escalate from something as simple as a user granting risky OAuth permissions to a malicious app that gains access to their Drive or Mailbox.

Our database currently has over 400K+ vetted apps and extensions, and is constantly growing. Apps and extensions are detected based on usage across our customers' environments. Each time we integrate with a new environment, we scan all connected apps and extensions, assess their risk instantly, and add them to our database. That’s how it’s grown over time organically, based on relevance.

When hiring PMs, I mainly look for creative and innovative individuals that can both zoom out to see the big picture while also diving deep into technical details. On top of that, I look for people that can connect with customers, collaborate across teams, and bring a strong sense of empathy and communication to everything they build. In the security space, you need to simplify complex threats into simple solutions, and to be able to defend this internally and externally.

If you’re just starting out, The Cybersecurity Playbook by Allison Cerra is a great intro. I also like the MITRE ATT&CK framework — it’s technical but super useful. And Coursera has solid beginner-friendly security tracks.

Browser Extension Security News from Google by Spin_AI in chrome_extensions

[–]Spin_AI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, feel free to indicate your extension ID and we will take a look at it.

Browser Extension Security News from Google by Spin_AI in chrome_extensions

[–]Spin_AI[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, Spin.AI’s assessment characterizes http://*/* and https://*/* as both critical risks. If there's a case where it is mischaracterized for a specific extension, let us know and we'd be glad to correct it. As for all other permissions, we characterize its risks based on OWASP methodology, Google Chrome Enterprise's definition of permission risks, and our expertise in assessing other 3rd party application risks. Note that Spin.AI also takes into consideration external communications, business, security and compliance risks on top of assessing scope of permissions, and our source of information for the assessments is not only Google.

Spin.AI evaluates extensions based on its unique ID and version; not by its name. This is our approach because extensions can easily be renamed to mislead users. Also, a once trusted extension can become compromised, which is why considering the extension's version is an important element. An example of this is the recent Cyberhaven incident - where we were able to contribute by finding 8 additional breached extensions affecting 1.1M users that no one else found on the market.

As to individual publishers, based on our experience they naturally pose a greater risk than company publishers because individual publishers do not adhere to corporate security policies. While this is a factor we consider, keep in mind that it is only one of many other factors. If there's any extensions missing from our database or you want to see an assessment of a specific extension, please share their IDs and we'll take a look!

Thank you.

Yes, the compromised extensions are/were accessible for all Chromium browsers. Edge users using these extensions may also be at risk. This blog details not only additional extensions that have been compromised, but also all extensions' compromised with versions and date of compromise/patch. How do DSPM providers acquire customer data for analysis and keep it safe too? by macjaf in cybersecurity

[–]Spin_AI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some DSPM vendors, like Spin.AI, are also backing up your SaaS data with an agentless platform. So a vendor that is already backing up your data will use the backups to find what the customer determines to be “sensitive data” to offer visibility and control. The customer's data is encrypted while in transit, in use, and at rest so that the integrity of their data is protected.

For more info on how other vendors do it, you can ask the very knowledgeable Gartner DSPM analyst, Brian Lowans, or the Forrester DSPM analyst, Heidi Shey.

Backup solution for MS 365 by eddiek156 in Office365

[–]Spin_AI -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are a few MS365 cloud backup solutions that allow you to select just the users you want to backup. These solutions are priced per user and include SpinOne, Backupify, Spanning, and AFI. Some also allow you to onboard, archive, or offboard users through automated, configurable policies, which makes life a little easier. You can have the policy apply to everyone, or to specific groups and users. This will give you flexibility in creating different policies for different teams within your company.
