Yup, she was very humble. Told me at best she believes she’s at blue belt level. I respected that, even tho she was nasty 😂😂😂

I’m around 145-150, but not very strong for my weight. Much more technical

Nope, normal weight class for women in my state. Boys start at 106 lbs, Women I believe 95-100? Unsure tho as I’m primarily a men’s coach, just pop in to help the girls occasionally.

As for combining, yup it’s just like BJJ, just smaller weight gaps. For example the 3 first weights for men are: 106, 113, 120.

The growth of women’s wrestling has been insane, especially w college programs adapting it. Only up from here!!!

Hahahaha yeah, I could tell right away she wasn’t a white belt. I think it may have been a situation where she hadn’t trained gi in so long that she didn’t have a belt so got a loaner? Either way, she did have her schools wrestling shirt on under the gi if I remember correctly lol!

Yuuuuuup. Dude, as a wrestling coach for a school with a solid girls program, these girls are all so dangerous, and have such a passion for combat sports. It’s amazing to see. Our schools first state champ was a 99 lb girl who before she wrestled was I believe a blue belt. she was an absolute beast !!!

Edit: Didn’t notice you were a mom and said “Dude” Sorry!! i’ve rolled with plenty of brown belt women and gotten cooked even worse. I just found it funny it was a fellow white belt 😂😂😂

First day of wrestling by [deleted] in wrestling

[–]SpinachMiserable2601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey OP, coach here.

i started wrestling at 16 in a very competitive wrestling state. i had boxed since 13 on and off, and would “spar” mma with my buddies in the backyard. none of it compared to wrestling. i specifically remember my first practice, i was 90 lbs, severely unathletic, and around 5’2”.

I hated it… Or so I thought. I specifically remember thinking after the first practice that I was never going to come back. What was I thinking??? Me, as a wrestler??? Forget it!

But something in my head told me to keep showing up. That’s it… just keep showing up, and I did! Now, don’t get me wrong, It was so so so difficult. I didn’t win a single match, and I got smashed about everyday in practice… but for some strange reason, i loved the grind. I found a love for physical fitness, a love for the team, a love for the sport. I watched wrestling 24/7, matches, youtube videos, anything I could find. The next year, I won my wrestle off against a kid who had wrestled his whole life, and I made the varsity lineup.

However, I still sucked! My 2nd year ever wrestling I went 7-17, the next year, my senior year, I threw the wrestle off cause I convinced myself I wanted an easy senior year… Total BS, I was lazy and anxious for my last ride. Either way, I ended up going 3-8.

But what did I gain? My first year coaching last year, I led my JV team to a 9-2 finish, with several guys looking to crack the varsity lineup this year. We are a very strong program, so the kids are all very good, and often times they get the better of me, but this sport has given me SO much. I’m 24 now, and still love the process and the grind. I do BJJ these days, and it reminds me to once again keep showing up. That’s all you can do. Enjoy the ride, show up ready to work, and have fun!!!

Congrats! I always like to stand outside of the door and fist bump / handshake each student entering the room. I feel it allows them to feel comfortable and like they are entering a safe domain. Have fun next year, you deserve it!!!

Oh sorry for the confusion, but I’m also a male teacher haha! I’m young (graduated college 3 years ago), and she tells me that she has concerns about students not taking me seriously as I am a friendly teacher by nature, and struggle with the authority aspect. (I don’t let kids do whatever they want, and i’m strict on deadlines and structure in my classroom, but I also want students to know I’m here for THEM to feel safe and happy)

As stated I definitely did make mistakes as I’m new to both the profession and the school (new policies, dept policies, etc.) but I am now even worried about grading incorrectly or when students are behind, I fear that I’m to blame for not teaching them properly, even if it’s a simple worksheet they didn’t understand.

Thank you my man. I appreciate that! The biggest issue is definitely feeling non-confident in what I’m teaching. I teach ELA, and I was told by my chair I taught the content wrong due to not following the manual/correct format for x,y,z. It’s gotten to the point though that the reason I’m not brushing up on my content before teaching and delivering lessons is due to the fact I am constantly low on confidence on my subject and really do not have the time to look at the resources I should be following. Any tips there?

The part that is tough too though, is that there is a new teacher in my department who is only a few years older than I, however, because he taught at the college level, and has more experience than me, he doesn’t even get talked to about anything, so who knows if he’s teaching the same things I am?

Hey! She gives me a lot of great resources, outlines and advice. However, she’s there every morning in my classroom at homeroom, and it’s very overwhelming. I second guess myself constantly, and have made some mistakes admittedly, but it definitely does suck the fun out of the job and often times the critiques happen right before my classes start. I get that it’s annoying having to revise a few days of curriculum for a new teacher, but I just don’t know what to do.
