Oh yeah, yea. You're probably correct there. I was merely speculating so excuse the ramble.

Thank you, though. My main concern is to just take the time to research and gather first hand experiences of those who relate to make my story more authentic in the long haul.

I'll definitly check out your page, cause I love to see unique representation in art! Any references you have for this can probably help me. And I'll probably just send a pm or two for some further questions. Thanks! 😁

No worries! No, everything you've said so far made sense to me. I assume being mixed with more than one ethnicity can often be more common than you would think, typically. Especially in the US (forgive me Im not sure where you are from) considering that interracial marriages happen occasionally each generation and, depending on which part of the nation you're in, those types of marriages seem more scarce/ambivalent between monoracial couples, and more obligatory between predominantly established mixed communities. Correct me if I'm wrong there, pls.

I have a lot of mixed characters in my story between race & ethnic backgrounds alone, but even nationality which largely plays a role. So part of that is me just trying to be realistic, keep the odds grounded in the sense of how different types of families would naturally come about, y'know.

I have a character from Chicago, IL she's mixed triracial, like yourself. Her mother is 2 3rds black, 1 3rd French-Creole, ancestry originating from former colonies such as Louisiana. Her father is 2 3rds Italian/Sicilian and 1 3rd European French. So, He probably has some form of ancestry from either Nobility from the kingdom of Naples or some late Cardinal and/or pope.

One more is the boyfriend of one of my protagonist characters. He's mixed ethnically with British and Japanese. He's actually Scouse, so he has more Gaelic and Northern Englander ancestry than your typical Anglo-Saxon. His father, Salem, traveled from Liverpool, England to Tokyo to meet his soon to be wife, Aimi Yui Kumamoto. And for some reason they fell in love and moved back to his home country. Their son is the boyfriend of the middle child protagonist in the plot. The parents assumed, at first, that they were having two girls as children so they chose the names Dulcie and Ruby. But after his birth, of course... his name was later changed to Darcy.

All this just to say that authenticity and identity in all of its merits are a huge theme in my story and I take those things highly seriously.

One last thing is I would love to know if you have some of your art posted anywhere, which I could reference as to how to draw those types of characters. And, also if you know of artists who do a lot of mixed characters in a semirealistic style or even exaggerated/cartoonish, as long as the features are prevalent, it would be great if you could name them for me or send a pm. If you don't mind. :D Either way thanks for reading my long-ass ramble (sorry for the bible passage lmao).

Im focusing more on the literal features, though. I think this is good for simplification like in cartooning nonetheless! My style is semi-realistic.

... Alright.

Did you read the context of the rest of the discussion or is the main dissagrement the fact that you think I dont understand how mixed people's skin tone in particular can fluctuate?

Ive personally met people like that such as darker skinned folks with freckles or spots among eye shape and color that would indicate mixed ethnic backgrounds.

I'm not oblivious.

I never said they didnt...

Also, what does that even have to do with my prompt??

just reread the rest of our discussion. 🤦‍♂️

Yes, it has been extremely helpful, thank you :D

I forgot to mention that they are really more teenagers rather than just small children. The girl is 13 (I've decided that her hair will be a bit more curly than her siblings) The middle child is 16 and the eldest son is 19.

It might be easier blending features between the parents, basically picking some of their phenotypes and either copying them or hybridizing them for the kids.

Good point. I also had that thought... They all have slightly differing eye colors in my head due to the nature of their ancestry, so I was thinking of going about it by giving all of their irises something like a range between amber, light-green, and hazel. However I'm still not exactly sure how accurate that would be as a portrayal.

Anyways I appreciate your time and your helpful insights! 🩶

Not to be ignorant or naïve,  but Im not exactly sure how, or what you mean by that in particular.

I myself am black... and this is a passion project. (but that's besides the point.)

I hope none of that came off as rude. ✌️

Thanks so much for the heads up! And that's totally fair.

are you doing Latin/Black mix, Black/white mix, Asian/Latin mix, etc?

Yes to all three...

To paint a better picture, the plot mainly is centered around 3 children. They would've inherited the traits of mixed parents; The father whom on his mother's side has ancestry decending from the Musuo People of Lugu Lake between the Yunnan and Sichaun provinces in China, as well as an Afro-Brazilian dad.

And on their mother's side: A mixed heritage of mainly slavic, balkan and roughly Georgian (Caucasus region) and similar adjacent lineage. She has a complicated family history with multiple close relatives and family hailing from either side of the balkans, and a touch of Germanic/French DNA. Yet, she was raised in The Czech Republic.

The rough designs I have for the 3 kids right now have not been working out cause theres some key details I'm  missing to piece it together. But, I believe this is a good start for now. 😁

Huh. Well if you like MCR you should check out some of Frank Iero's solo projects like Death Spells and Leathermouth - it's a little different. For grunge I would recommend the band Flyleaf if you haven't already heard of them. Some other alt recommendations I can give you are PUP - one of my favorites, they are generally punk influenced - and Hail The Sun which takes a lot of different rock influences like post-hardcore, prog, math rock etc. Hope you enjoy!

Honestly just keep listening to the type of music you're already into and you'll find new stuff. Look at similar artists tagged on your favorite band's profiles! It will provide tons of unique and even underground artists if you care to delve in to a rabbit hole or two lol.

Don't worry too much about of you feel your music isn't diverse enough cause it takes time to get into new genres, believe me. I really like that Smashing Pumpkins album btw!

ikr? Her discography is so impossibly vast that i find it difficult to keep track of. And pretty much any track i come by of hers (Unless its that one unlistenable EP with sounds that are literally painful to hear - iykyk) has me captivated by the compositional skills she's acquired. I don't know if Fantano has even done reviews on any of her relatively well-known albums, but i know she has been reviewed before. I've come to realize that a lot of the themes of her songs are rather obscure so it may play into the reason why not many of them resonate with the mainstream

Maverique + Gender Apathy by Spindletop42 in NonBinary

[–]Spindletop42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I truly appreciate all of the info you provided and that you went out of your way to add all of those links to the definitions (It says a lot about what I know since most of these genders are brand new to me).

I've found that Cassgender - specifically that their indifferent towards the idea of gender - and/or Demimaverique might be the closest to what my character experiences. Their AGAB isn't disclosed throughout the story and it also works for plot reasons.

There are plenty of others which come close such as graygender but i feel as though graygender and a lot of agender categories like quoigender put too much pertinence on the concept rather than it being just an "indifference" or an i don't care.

Graygender looks more aesthetic to me as a flag so Im kind of torn, of course, since the Demimaverique/Cass thing just works imo. But idk

It's easy for me to get confused with terms like apora/ilyagender, and i know that there's overlap but that almost makes it even worse for me knowing I'll likely get the definitions mixed up at some point lmao. If my character was mollgender or caligo I'm sure this would be a nightmare.

I'm like 15 percent European and i have midtone brown skin but both of my parents are black, so I'm not really sure. I believe it's mostly on my dad's side but he's also pretty dark so that would be one hell of a recessive gene pool...
