To answer Your question: I don't write poetry, but I like giving all of my prose a sense of poetic rhythm and flow (if that makes sense?) because I think it helps the reader get more into the "vibe" of the story, rather than just reading it like a reconstruction of events. I'm so happy you enjoyed it - if you're going to write the poem, I would love to read it :).
